Gophers-Badgers: Not Good Enough for Mariucci

Re: Gophers-Badgers: Not Good Enough for Mariucci

Radio - so that is a big NO than! Radio doesn't count... you can't watch the game if it wasn't for Frank and Doug... so the way I see it you should be kissing their asses.

Do Frank and Doug own the tv rights? We could still watch if they had different announcers.

Re: Gophers-Badgers: Not Good Enough for Mariucci

A bad game this weekend is better than a bad game in two weeks.
Even the most "homer" of a fan has to admit that anyone trying to win the title will have to contend with Denver and/or Miami.

This weekend the BADgers showed me they are not a championship contender. Granted things can change but certainly both games were not good for them.

Come on now, Miami lost two to Rob Morris. Teams have bad weekends, and this was certainly a horrendous one, but getting whupped in a single game by your biggest rival in a meaningless game on Senior Day- I'll wait until I count the Badgers out.

I love that you can make an assessment on our National Championship hopes off of two games. Two games on the road that we played arguably our worst hockey of the season and yet still managed to salvage two points.

There is still no excuse for our play this weekend. Absolutely atrocious.

In Wisconsin’s regular season finale, the Badgers dropped a 6-1 decision to snap its four-game win streak Sunday afternoon at Mariucci Arena. Wisconsin (22-9-4, 17-8-3 WCHA) split the series with the Gophers heading into postseason play.

Special teams proved the deciding factor as Minnesota (17-17-2, 12-14-2 WCHA) scored five unanswered power-play goals to break away from a 1-1 tie.
The powerplay really burnt the Badgers today.

Keep eating paint chips. :D
Your season ends on Saturday since your playoff record against UND rivals the SCSU NCAA tournament record.

Wow. Holy misleading stat, Batman. Minnesota defeated UND for a national championship. Minnesota has defeated UND in numerous playoff games. The stat you are referring to is that Minnesota has never won a playoff game in UND's rink.

MN hasn't played a playoff series at the new REA, either.

While UW fans are right in saying that this is "just a couple bad games", it also happened at the end of the regular season. So while the sample size is small, the timing is troublesome. This is not the way UW envisioned heading into the first round, I imagine.

As for their title hopes, I don't think they're particularly good - they don't have the defense or goaltending, IMHO.

I'd love to hear your analysis on why our defense isn't National Championship worthy. And don't you dare start with today, you certainly can't hold PP goals against our defensemen.

Frankly, we don't care what you think. The numbers speak for themselves. We scored 138 goals this year. We gave up 92 goals (3rd best in the conference). That's pretty darn good for not having the defense or goaltending. Have fun watching reruns of Minnesota vs Holy Cross after this week. We'll be watching live hockey instead.

This Gopher team possibly is one of the 16 worst losing teams in the 80+ years of Gopher hockey. The BADgers should have walloped them but they showed me their consistency is lacking. IMO, there is no excuse for a second seed to lose to the Gophers. The Gophers can't score if they did they wouldn't be playing UND this weekend.

I can't?

Do you seriously believe killing penalties has nothing to do with your defensemen? Your team gave up 5 PPG's to a Gopher team that has a bad powerplay (they entered the game converting on 15% of them). Based on the combination of poor special teams play and chances given up this weekend, I just don't think your team is strong enough on the defensive side of things to win the whole thing - especially in goal. If MN's offense wasn't so *'ing terrible, I think they'd have swept UW this weekend - which is rather surprising to me because I didn't expect the play to be what it was heading into this series (the first one in Madison led me to think UW was a *much* better team - I still think that's true, but they sure as hell did not play like it for more than a few minutes this weekend).

I guess we'll find out over the next couple weeks if this was merely a bad weekend for them and a one-time thing, or if it's an ominous sign of what's to come.

The BADgers just don't have the depth to dethrone DU.

Chuck seems to care what I think. :p

Giving up 92 goals isn't that great. In fact, after glancing through the GF/GA nationally, that puts you guys in the middle of the pack when it comes to who will make the NCAA's.

If UW advances to the F4, it'll be due to their offense, not their defense/goaltending.
