Gophers at Bulldogs Oct 14 & 15 - No more well wishes

Re: Gophers at Bulldogs Oct 14 & 15 - No more well wishes

Can we count on another UMD-UMTC love fest later this year?

Re: Gophers at Bulldogs Oct 14 & 15 - No more well wishes

What I thought was so cute in this thread is that the Dud actually thinks someone besides the players and their families cares about a DII FB title. :D
I care too, I'm a season ticket holder...and since last year's regular season avg attendance of 4415 would've ranked 15th in D1 hockey, some other people must care too! :p (I'm not dumb enough, however to brag about our football and women's hockey teams to people that I know don't care and never will, which is most on this particular site:))

Anyway, as for this weekend, it was a very entertaining series to watch even though it didn't turn out well. UMD skaters continue to look better than I expected. I had worried aloud about the goaltending in the UMD season thread and it has been even worse than I thought thus far. Minnesota is clearly a couple notches better than last year and I think the senior have a good shot at finally reaching the NCAA tournament. When was the last time a Gopher senior class never went to the tournament?

Our enjoyment of Saturday's game was seriously dampened due to two total d-bag Gopher fans sitting behind us acting like Sioux fans. I have no problem with visiting fans cheering for there team and engaging in good-natured ribbing. However, sitting amongst families screaming obscenities and homophobic slurs at the students that are a full two sections away as well as loudly degrading the entire female population of Duluth is unacceptable. The screamed apologies to the whole section probably made it worse since they knew they were being d-bags and couldn't manage to control it. (And, yes, I am just as disgusted, if not more-so, when fans of teams I am rooting for engage in the same behavior since it ends up reflecting poorly on all of us) </diatribe>

Bad behavior at games is common, and complaining about it on a message board is pointless. If you really had a problem with those fans, you would have reported them to arena security and had them warned / thrown out of the building.

Last made the NCAA Tourney in 2007. They last made the Frozen Four in 2005.

I know its pointless, just blowing off steam. I was a little surprised, while arrogant:p Gopher fans are often pretty easy to get along with.

I know that. I was wondering if a Gopher senior class had ever not gone to an NCAA tournament before, which the current senior class is in danger of if they don't make it this season.

Ever stop and think we may not be as much arrogant as defensive. Everyone it seems hates our program and is constantly trying to belittle our team's accomplishments. Personally, I'm a big MINNESOTA Hockey fan and cheered hard for the Dogs last year.

1. Relax, I was taking a friendly little shot about the Gopher fan stereotype. 2. Like most stereotypes, it is based in truth. I'm a big Gopher rube for all sports except hockey and I have personal relationships with many Gopher fans. Unprovoked comments, texts, emails etc... about Gopher hockey superiority are quite common. While generally good-natured it does get old after awhile.

Not upset, or attacking you personally, just saying there are plenty of us Gopher fans who aren't arrogant but are tired of being generalized as such :)

Nice sweep for the Gophers. Off to a great start.

It's a shame a few people can leave a bad impression for a whole crew of well traveling fans. Resist the temptation to brand them all the same. On that note, when in other teams buildings and some fellow fans get out of line cheering for your team don't be afraid to call a spade a spade. It shouldn't matter what team they are cheering for.

Depends on how you interpret getting "out of line". Kind of like the refs knowing when to call those checking from behind penalties, you know it when you see it. Well, kinda sorta like that. ;)

No doubt, there will be some gray area. Sitting near the student section, you can push the line a little more than you can surrounded by families. You can still be a great hockey fan without sucking as a person.
