Gophers at Bulldogs Oct 14 & 15 - No more well wishes

Re: Gophers at Bulldogs Oct 14 & 15 - No more well wishes

Nice sweep for the Gophers. Off to a great start.

It's a shame a few people can leave a bad impression for a whole crew of well traveling fans. Resist the temptation to brand them all the same. On that note, when in other teams buildings and some fellow fans get out of line cheering for your team don't be afraid to call a spade a spade. It shouldn't matter what team they are cheering for.
I did generalize about the arrogance, since that's the joke around here, but I am aware that the particularly bad language and behavior was just those two drunk guys, and I mentioned in my earlier post that it, indeed, makes me more mad when fans of the team I'm rooting for act the same way because it reflects poorly on the whole fanbase. I have been very disappointed in the behavior of both SCSU and UMD fans at home and on the road on a number of occasions. If the particular fans I was referring to were sitting right next to or amongst the students and not yelling across two sections, that would have been a different story as well. I also just meant to vent a little and not create a whole discussion:)

...and if I had a team to be arrogant about, I probably would be too ;)

Sounds like there may have been drinking involved. I was at the Ralph a few years ago and being a Gopher fan got similar treatment. Not just "making fun" but downright rude/crude. Pretty disgusting actually (and it wasn't just from the college age kids, it was the older adults as well). I think the booze adds to the problem. Another reason not to sell alchohol at college events!

While alcohol may add to it, I've been to every WCHA rink, minus Anchorage, and have received terrible treatment everywhere except Bemidji and Colorado College. It is what it is. Fortunately, the majority of college hockey fans are awesome, which I cannot say about other sports.

I have also traveled quite a bit, and while I acknowledge I haven't been everywhere at once, I have never seen a more hostile (not in a good way) atmosphere than REA. I've seen women and young kids (teenagers) verbally abused. Pretty pathetic IMO.

Agreed. I went as a Tech fan once and had explatives and fingers pointed at me. And I was just walking around!

Michigan Tech fans treated you terribley?
You can still be a great hockey fan without sucking as a person.
I disagree :p

Re: Gophers at Bulldogs Oct 14 & 15 - No more well wishes

It certainly depends on the fans you run accross, but generally I love hanging with other team's fans. It's easier when you are welcoming them to your place, but have had pretty good luck going to others as well.

These experiences are more related to football, but that's more because football is such a huge tailgate opportunity. We actually had a big banner made welcoming Nebraska to the Big 10 for this weekend's game. Guessing there will be a bunch of fun fans as well as a few jerks.

Bottom line, I find most people are good but there are always idiots around too. Enjoy the good ones and ignore the idiots.

Unfortunately for us Sioux fans, part of our hockey fan representation includes Bison fans from Fargo.

The worst place I've been treated as an opposing fan has been at the NHC in St. Cloud. Best place has been Michigan Tech. Close second in both categories is the Xcel during the Final Five.

Sure blame NDSU fans :p

Explain more. Are all the F bomb dropping Sue fans at the Ralph all NDSU fans?

I know it's not all Sioux fans. I know quite a few who are pretty level-headed, and fun to talk to. In fact, I'm sure most are this way. Unfortunately, I think somewhere along the line some contingent of your fan base has decided that being a good fan equates to being the biggest tool possible to opposing fans that visit. In all seriousness, it makes some people think twice about visiting and ruins the opportunity to mingle and discuss puck between fan bases.

All? No. Are all the F bomb dropping Bulldog fans at Amsoil ( and formerly tDECC) Rodent fans? :p

Bison fans have a special level of hostility I haven't seen from any other fanbase. We get along much better with any of our hockey rivals than we do with Bison fans.

Look, I told your grandma once to get out of my way. It's not my fault she didn't listen or had her Beltone turned off. If she had learned to listen in her first 93 years of life I wouldn't have had to push her off the upper deck and she'd still have her original hip. She has no one to blame but herself and I don't appreciate you coming here and sullying my good name with your accusations.

I rest my case :)

Hah! Like your skinny azz could run over JDUBBS granny! She'd kick your butt six ways from Sunday and you'd be the one getting his hip replaced!

But some of us ARE arrogant and revel in it!

You guys seem to have problems everywhere, maybe it's you.:D

They especially don't like it when we call them the sioux over on the gopherhole football boards, which some of us do just for the reaction factor. Underlying it is that it irritates them to no end that despite the fact that they have a very nice FCS football program (that has beaten the two worst Gopher teams of the past century) and a solid hoops program, North Dakota sports is still known more for UND hockey than for anything NDSU does.

Oh, and for the record, I've almost always liked my interactions with UND hockey fans at the X for the Final Five. There were a few tools at REA my one time up there, but I can deal with UND fans much more readily than Badger fans.

During the UMD-Northwest Mo. football semifinal last season CBS College Sports showed a graphic of the schools with the most D2 titles and under NDSU's five titles, they had a Sioux logo:)
