Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Re: Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Had to see the shot. It was as I said before INSANE!
I brought this over from the other thread as there doesn't seem to me to be any reason to keep tormenting the Clarkson fans with this discussion but the shot was taken from right in front of the Gopher bench meaning Coach Frost had a decent angle for judging the goal. Here is what the Pioneer Press reports as Coach Frost's reaction:

"They could take that shot a million times and it would go in once," Frost said. "It just happened to go in tonight."

The Pioneer Press story calls the goal a "fluke".

Fluke is pretty strong talk. I guess I will go with "unusual". One in a million qualifies as "unusual" I think. I also think that none of this means that it was not a great shot or that it was anything less than INSANE. It was definitely unusual.

I agree with you. There were many theories as to what happened. One person's opinion was that Noora expected Clarkson to ring the puck in along the boards and wasn't on her angle at the time the shot was taken. I wondered if the D that was covering the shooter got a piece of the shot with her stick and changed the direction. Was she screened ... did the puck come out of the players on the bench and she just didn't pick it up immediately? It would be interesting to hear from #41, because beyond that, they are all just theories.

The good news is that last night she looked like the Noora we grew accustomed to seeing pre-Olympics -- very aggressive and challenging everything.

We are kind of beat up at this point, but I'd guess that most teams are in March. I hope Zebro is able to return to the ice, because she's been playing great since the USA exhibition.

does anyone know what time the the UMD/gophs game will be, will they get the 5pm game or the 8pm game, and since UMD is the high seed in this match they will be the "home team" right?

The host team has played the late game in the previous 3 NCAAs where it applied; I'd expect that to continue. Yes, UMD will be home team.

I just wish Francis and Davis hadn't skated into my focus zone (center-spot on the 50D) and taken the focus ;)

I feel your pain. Have had it happen more times than I care to remember, mostly because someone in a striped shirt was responsible.

The Frozen Four semi is just around the corner. Let's hope the Gophs have two more W's in them. Talking to another die hard fan, an individual close to the team, during the Clarkson q'final, he mentioned how at the beginning of the season likely very few, if anyone, could have expected the team to make the FF field. Maybe there are some that had such expectations, but I can certainly understand his point as I would agree with his sentiment and had those same doubts at the start of the 2009-2010 season. Many GWH fans had to have those doubts after losing Gigi, M Lam, J Lam & Jen Schoullis. The team desperately needed many on the roster to step up to leadership roles and fill the large void left by the aforementioned four top scorers. Brittany Francis, Laura May, Sarah Erickson and Emily West are just a few among several who did just that. It also helped immensely to have each of the talented freshmen jump in, adjust and help out in a very significant manner as they did.

I hope the entire roster...but especially the seniors (including #20) are healthy and ready to go so they can enjoy the rewards and opportunity they've worked so hard to achieve throughout their college hockey careers. Congrats for making the FF field and good luck Gophers.

Beat the Goondogs!

Just wanted to get on here and let you guys (ARM, D2D, Crazy Dave, MAN, and the rest) know you have done a great job this year with all of your info. I check this thread almost everyday to get updates from the Gopher ladies from you. Leaving Kansas City tomorrow to head north and watch the Gophs take care of business for two more games. Should be a geat weekend of hockey at Ridder. GO GOPHERS

Are the Gophers working one of the concession stands on Sunday? :D
This is the second time you've been all concerned about what the Gophers are doing on Sunday. If you were really confident, you should be focused on Cornell/Mercyhurst by then. I think you have a bad case of Gopher envy.

Well, I'm not all that concerned. But I do think it's nice if the venue really does offer them an opportunity to help out in some way during Sunday's game. Might be fun for the girls and they get a little work experience, too. A win/win for everyone! :D

Go and get 'em Gophers! I'm busy tonight and really need one last trip to Ridder this season on Sunday.

Re: Golden Gopher Women's Hockey 2009-2010

If anybody wants some hockey to get prepped for tonight, FSN is currently showing the WCHA semi between OSU and the Gophs.
