Hillary should come out as opposing ground troops in no uncertain terms. She'll waffle because she's ancient and trapped forever back in the Democrats "must prove my dck is big" oldthink, but she could win the election today if she said "no more oil wars." The neocons would blow a gasket and all the Republicans would hump Bibi's leg and she'd win big.

That's all well and good, but if Boehner and Yertle the Turtle are running the show in Congress, I still question if anything will get done.

I think that ticket would be pretty popular around here, but it's obviously a political non-starter for either party, and there is no way an indy could win (more's the pity).

My WAG? Cheney saw nothing but more dollar signs for his buddies in the defense sector. Bush was either too inept to comprehend the possible negative consequences, and/or didn't care because:

1) Saddam had plotted to assassinate Sr. and went unpunished for it, so it was time for payback
2) He figured some more "MURICA!" on his resume would aid his 2004 re-election bid

It seems least Middle East people don't really want full freedom. I was just reading an article on the iraqi army not being dedicated to fighting as a reason for more lost ground.

Maybe we should stop interfering and move on to fixing our own country for awhile.

Kep if she's driven as a craven opportunist one look at the poll #'s for more troops on the ground in Iraq would easily convince her to do exactly as you say. Its a no lose position to take, which is why you see very very few Republicans advocating a return to ground forces in that godforsaken place. Really I think its just ancient McCain and his buddy Graham. Even the fringe nuts aren't advocating another war.

Amen. If Iraqis don't care about their country being taken over by ISIS enough to fight for it, neither should we. I'd support the Kurds who seem to be the only people actually putting up any resistance, and you notice ISIS has moved on to other areas because of it. Other than that, the rest are on their own. Worst foreign policy disaster in American history, and we can thank the neo-con crowd for that.
