GLI - Watt's the forecast - Troppical Summers or McCleod on the horizon?

Re: GLI - Watt's the forecast - Troppical Summers or McCleod on the horizon?

 Your dance has been met with disapproval?
Say it ain't so.
Again, note that it was a "slightly related note." :D

Pregame, Ohio State football game in 2006. I get selected for the Pizza House craziest fan thing, where the winner is selected by crowd approval.

I'm number two down the line, following some hot, scantily clad bombshell.

Crowd obviously goes nuts for her, and, with the crowd simultaneously noting the juxtaposition between myself and the eye-candy to my right, booed the living hell out of me as Braverman announced for the crowd to show their approval for contestant number two.

Massive booing. I mean, massive booing. We're talking about the type of booing that's generally reserved for hated Wolverines or those who bite the heads off of baby ducklings at the zoo.

So I take my licks and try to not laugh my a** off. Good news, my slight humiliation was offset by the $5 Pizza House giftcard I received as my consolation prize. :D

Re: GLI - Watt's the forecast - Troppical Summers or McCleod on the horizon?

Yeah, there's a few that do both though. For instance, I went to the Tech @ LSSU game last year and they performed both at the Taffy Abel.

Only the American anthem is performed at the GLI, unless they've changed that since the last time I attended two years ago.

I wouldn't be surprised if LSSU is the only exception.

I've always thought it would be cool if the Pep Band played O Canada before every game, since we have so many Canadian players.

Actually, it's not just RPI; many of the ECAC schools perform both anthems. Niagara does as well. RPI may play a special anthem in place of Canada for Senior Night (last year we played the Russian anthem for a Russian graduating senior), and naturally if a game is played in Canada, the order will be reversed.

Insightful.

Yeah, you're not even close to being right.

Not insightful.

Interesting--thanks for the info. I've always thought that would be a cool thing to do, seeing as how we have so many Canadian players. I like the thing about the Russian player, too--I'd like to see the Swedish anthem played next year when our two Swedes graduate.

It's in our library, but we usually only play it for the preseason game. Not a bad idea for Senior Night, though. Either way, it's a very rare occurrence, and I don't know of any WCHA team that regularly plays both anthems.

We have the Russian National Anthem as well - for some reason we played it at a football game once? The Finnish one would be more appropriate for the area anyway.

Wow, seeing this quoted as such, it reminds me of an old deodorant commercial. (props to anyone else that remembers it)

I think it's a misunderstanding of custom. In the ECAC, we see it as a rare thing that a school does not play both anthems. Perhaps in your neck of the woods, it's a rare thing that a school does. From what I gather on these posts, this is the case.

So, this one time...
in hockey band...
we had O Canada ready to go (we were playing an exhibition against Toronto) and we were going to play it before the banner. However, due to a new announcer and a new band director, when the announcement of "now the playing of our national anthem" or maybe it was "star spangled banner" we were told to play the banner. We should have just played "O Canada" first and then the banner.

Afterwards, the Canadian team was just standing on the blue line waiting...and waiting...and waiting. I felt really bad for them.

There was a line in the school newspaper recapping the game, "I don't know what's worse, losing 8-1 or not hearing your national anthem"

I just don't see why the ECAC would bother having that custom if nobody in the conference is especially near Canada. It's at least understandable in places like LSSU and Niagara where the school is right on the border (and the Canadian city is actually more populous).

It's not my job to take idiots by the hand and lead them to the right answer. If FlagDUDE wants to do that, more power to him.

Judging by your last remark, you aren't exiting the idiot realm any time soon.

Clarkson and SLU aren't near Canada? Granted that LSSU is a bit closer, but ...

Hey, this guy has pretty much proven he prefers being blissfully ignorant. That seems to be why he posts this stuff like he's sure it's fact, and why I'm laughing at him.

BTW, re: your rep, I'm nice to anyone who is nice to me. You've got to give to get.

Interesting. In our Library we play My Three Songs. How sad.

I was going to comment on that, but I thought it would be better to let him wallow in his maize and blue ignorance.
