"Husky Hockey NHL Haven"

John Scott defending against Chris Durno.

Durno gets an assist, Scott gets a fighting major.

huskyfan slight edge to Scott not a strong fight. And did I tell you we were at the rink for Big John's first NHL fight?

Matt Hendricks

On his Goal – “Chris Durno made a great play lugging the puck up the ice, and two defenders went to
him and he was still able to get the puck in the offensive zone, and I just picked it up and made a shot
and it went in the back of the net.”

I'm confused here. Are you talking about Boosh or Steve?

As an outsider, I found both to be quite pessimistic. Boosh was at least somewhat quiet and borderline amusing about it, whereas I think I have more positive things to say about Tech hockey than Steve does.

Re: GET IN THE VAN! Michigan Tech 2009-10 Season Thread, Part Deux

Back from Thanksgiving and I see that it's officially official - we're still young, still taking entire nights off, still losing key players to injury, and we still suck.

I never thought I'd say this, and I know I'm going to get yelled at when one of you misconstrues my words, but this squad is rapidly losing my interest. I'm just about ready to write the season off, be happy for whatever fluke wins come our way, and prepare to watch a more experienced team next fall.

Mind you, this doesn't mean that I'm giving up on the team's future or the coaching staff, I'm just preparing myself to start following the season a lot more casually.

Cue MacD asking me to step off the bandwagon. :D ;)

This season was meant as a rebuilding season. We all know it and expected it, so I don't blame you for holding back.

For me, I've started following the sport in general as opposed to Tech. It makes it a lot more fun by taking the pressure off you to root for a winner, so you can just relax and enjoy the game for what it is. Why listen to Tech rehearse its way through three periods when I can watch UND and Miami go to town in a bona fide game of the year candidate?

I guess this is the final stage of Tech fandom: ascension.

I actually started to do that a lot last year. It'd be easier if I had access to a TV with a sports package and could actually watch some games involving other teams, but alas I currently do not. So, I make do with radio feeds, which are OK.

I also watch a lot more Wings games now that I've graduated and no longer have coursework to do, instead of just viewing the NHL.com highlights. Of course, it'll be back to normal in January when I start my master's program, but for now it helps scratch the hockey itch. It also helps that they are still a pretty solid team, even with the injuries. :o

In all honesty, I know my disappointment is temporary. I'm probably doomed to continue doing Drive Time and score updates when I can, regardless of how many losses we rack up every year. I just felt I had to say something.

I am very discouraged.

I wouldn't be that discouraged. This team has a good amount of talent, they just need to figure out how to play two full 60-minute games every weekend.

Re: GET IN THE VAN! Michigan Tech 2009-10 Season Thread, Part Deux

I'm with huskyfan. Discouraged is a good description. Luckily high school hockey is starting, so I will be able to watch some decent hockey...Tech-sucks, Gophers-suck, Wild-suck...not a good year for my teams. :(

Re: GET IN THE VAN! Michigan Tech 2009-10 Season Thread, Part Deux

I'm majorly discouraged.
I had high hopes for this year, seeing as how I'm finally a real Techie, but nooooo. Not even close.
It's nice to still be at home since I can at least follow the Copper Kings, however, they're being as shifty as Tech; winning 5-1 one night, and losing the second night.

I really wish I would have known that the cocky Canadian team of 15 year olds sitting in front of us on Friday night had just lost to Mankato West 6-0...would have been nice to put those annoying kids in their place.

Hahaha. MavHockey14 is the Mankato West captain. :p

Re: GET IN THE VAN! Michigan Tech 2009-10 Season Thread, Part Deux

Agreed. He's a sore winner. He was texting me this past weekend about the suckage of the Huskies.
Make sure to text him when my high school alma-mater wipes the floor with his team in the section tourny.

Yeah that would've been nice! However, one of those kids was a Sioux fan, so that makes him a little smarter :p

...they just need to figure out how to play two full 60-minute games every weekend.

...and figure out how to stay out of the box

...and figure out how to kill a penalty

...and figure out how to consistently score more than one or two goals in a game

...and figure out who and/or what is really leading/inspiring the team

...etc.

Not that I disagree with you - I'm just sayin'

The first two are more or less side effects from the team lapsing for a period or more. When this team is playing well, they don't take as many penalties and they kill off the ones they do take. They also generate some pretty good chances on offense. Hell, compared to last year's team, this is an offensive juggernaut. :o

Anyway, I still think this team is only a couple adjustments from being halfway decent. I'd be more concerned about the Red Wings if I were you. ;)

What if it goes to OT? We should probably play a full 65 minutes, if necessary, just saying.
