My impression of the British, while spectacularly ignorant, is that they don't have the same problem with slack-jawed religious yokels as we. Their mindless stupidity is about class and ethnicity, not the jebus. Northern Ireland excepted.

Agreed after living there, but in terms of religious extremism (what exists) their fear is normally directed at Muslims

There was a time when they were super-duper anti-Semitic. But OTOH they also voted in Disraeli, while the US still had people who wanted to murder all our Jews.

a woman may be banned for two years after calling a transgender opponent a biological man. I’m wondering if she said things that were worse

this isn’t the usual case of no impact on results- the transgender woman won championship in western Canada opens and set a record- in this case lifting 200kg more than the second place finisher for squat/deadlift/bench totals. She also apparently made a viral video mocking the other woman, saying they couldn’t bench as much as her young son and that they have little t-Rex arms LOL

I know nothing of this particular case, so I am commenting specifically on generalities. But I do think it's important to protect women athletes - all women, including trans women - from unscrupulous dirtbags that may pretend to be trans. I don't know how you do that, and to me the balance still sits where we lean towards more openness, but I would hate to see a situation where a trans woman turns out to be some lying shitbag fraudster.
