Isn't Edge just an MS branded Chrome browser?

My company still uses IE because that's all apparently our web version of Deltek (for our timesheets) uses.

Then again, they also deployed two different versions of Firefox to all users and then blocked the ability to update them...

We are moving away from IE11 to Edge Chromium and, in some instances, actual Chrome. The problem is that a few of our browser-based apps had code added for the non-industry standards required by IE and the newer developers can’t figure out how to unwind that code for 100% correct operation in the newer browsers that actually use industry standards. Then users report issues when their app fails and my team has to explain to people they need to use the older browser. And users are stupid so they don’t understand until the third trip or more through the wringer.

My experiences with Edge has been terrible. I have no idea whether it was bad to start or whether it was solid and then MS ruined it, but I never use it if I can possibly help it.

The next time my very conservative FIL wants me to set up his new tech toy, but then can’t remember the password to whichever account needed to actually complete the process, I’m setting his new passwords GoDems2024!, and it will be ever thus.

Was going to start pulling all of my recordings off my DVR this morning. One show in and Comcast goes out. Got word it won't be fixed until at least 5 pm tonight. The worst part is this isn't as easy as just copy paste. You've got to run through all of them and that takes time.

I've got to say, I've had much better luck with Comcast than most. But the last two months have been not great.

Saving them because there were a couple of these shows that aren't on anymore and others were live events. I'd like to be able to get a new box and renegotiate the cost. Can't do either without pulling the shows off. The box is so old it still has a hard drive in it. They've switched to a garbage cloud system that deletes recordings after a year. :-/

Anyways, it grinds my gears.

My company has been trying to renew my 3-year visa since February. In the interim they have been doing 60-day temp visas. I advised them in May that I would be traveling to the US in July (with provided dates) and that not only would I need my passport back in time, but also that all documentation and stamps be proper for travel to the U.S. and back again.

Just found out that my current temp visa does not allow for me to return to the Philippines unless I have a return ticket purchased to the U.S., or unless I go to the nearest Philippines consulate which is in Chicago. I advised that either solution is fine by me, but the company will be on hook for either buying the return ticket (and eating the cost when it goes unused) or paying to fly me to Chicago, taxi to the consulate, put me up in a hotel if required, flying me back to MSP and paying for taxi back. I probably won't hear anything until Sunday night CST at the earliest.

Tuesday I move the boy into the dorm and my plan was go to go our cabin Wed - Fri but that is now likely not an option. Weeeee.

Roommates.

I've found my makeup missing, perfume missing, food missing, and more. Last night, I was woken up by someone screaming. Asking nicely to stop does nothing.

Also, their 20-something daughters had the worst vocal fry I've ever heard. Nice to see it has even permeated the sticks.

I had to search for this post because the engineer who sits next to me has the absolute worst fry I've ever heard. It's HORRIBLE.

I swear this post happens once a month:

First: IT sends out email testing the server and asks for a reply
Next: Every nimrod hits "Reply All"
Last: More nimrods tell everyone not to hit "Reply All" by...HITTING FUCKING REPLY ALL!!

How people this fucking ignorant can even function boggles my fucking mind.

There is an actual name for this.

Also, IT is the one screwing that up.

Yep, that was what caught my attention.

But I love it when that stuff happens, I can't help it. I love it when the Security guy giving the OPSEC briefing in the SCIF has his cell phone go off (actually saw this happen).

We've all done something on par with that. "Everybody plays the fool, sometimes." The only reason we can stand each other is that, at bottom, we know we are all trying our best and that we are all idiots.

In a way, I've never been so grateful to lose housing.

City code inspector came through and discovered the property was unsafe, and the landlord did nothing to fix it. I have until the 23rd.

But coming home today and finding out the toxic sentient humanoid prototypes who also live here helped themselves to my expensive ice cream and more of my food...

Our IT fills our inboxes with all this stupid stuff about preventing phishing, etc. Once in awhile OK. They send out little trick emails that we have to report. We also get multiple emails no University should be sending. Insipid, infantile modules that are aimed at 3rd graders with multiple click the box, cartoony stuff= no. I get very little email when I am not teaching. When more than half my emails were reminders to do something I had no intention of opening I finally figured out to label it as spam. They do not pay me enough to engage in the time suck aimed at the elementary schoolers. A short doc that would be less than a paragraph would tell me the same thing.
