Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

A big gear grinder is that people don't know that Memorial Day is specifically for the fallen. Not for Veterans. Have heard and seen many veterans comment on it too, it bugs many of them too. For them, this is a day (yesterday) for their brothers that didn't come home, and many times died saving their lives.

Related, saying "Happy Memorial Day" is kind of inappropriate. It's not happy. And you don't "celebrate" it, you observe it.

Walking around the apartment complex with all the barbecue pits fired up, you could have fooled me...

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

You know what grinds my gears? People lecturing others over what days "should be about." Memorial Day is to remember fallen soldiers? Thanks. Got it.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

When you have a client where no one is willing to take ownership of a project and make decisions, so they have failed to follow best practices and are still asking the same questions over two months later, because their vision for how a very complex process should be implemented is almost completely backwards.

Oh, and the ultimate insult. I just found out today that after they signed off on the original requirements without a single peep as to the document's structure and flow, they unilaterally decided to re-write/re-structure the requirements themselves, because their BA whined that she "can't" create test cases based off what I delivered. With no explanation as to what was so difficult for her to understand, of course. Not to mention she had at least 6 weeks after the on-site to bring this up, and never did until development had started.

I feel your pain. Differences in our situations with me being an in-house BA, but I've come across a BA who couldn't or wouldn't write test script objects from requirements I wrote. That created a project backlog to the point where the project was ultimately cancelled.

Ha. No thanks, I'll continue to observe HOLIDAYS.

I understand the umbrage but still find fault with it. That someone misunderstands that Memorial Day has a different intent - but that person has good intentions that aren't completely effed up - is not a sincere but pleasant moment of education more beneficial than scorn and ridicule?

My favorite are the people who post the "In case you thought it was about a three day weekend" memes while up at their cottage. Bonus points if they took Friday off work to make it a four day weekend.

Undoubtedly the same folks who put up those "Jesus is the Reason for the Season!" lawn signs...and go to church twice a year, on Christmas Eve and Easter.

I'm kind of part of that crowd. I am not a fan of organized churches/religious....practices, I guess? However, I do believe in God/Jesus/etc. I just keep my faith between me and them.

I don't put up lawn signs, but to me Christmas is about God and family and goodwill.

No, you aren't. You don't loudly advertise your faith, but then fail to act on the tenants of it. You've got your own little interpretation, which is fine. I don't begrudge you that.

It's these idijuts who are sooooooo Christian and tell everyone about it, except when they aren't, that get on my nerves. It's the equivalent of a privileged 'socialist', or a 'conservative' who votes for millions or billions of dollars on pork barrel spending. Anyone who labels themselves an ideological purist, EXCEPT when...

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

Yeah, you aren't even remotely close to that.

I don't know many, I can't think of any at all, that are like that. All the people I know who are more vocal about their religion actually follow their message as best they can.

Re: Gear Grinding 6: I'm So Over This.

Memorial Day/Decoration Day used to be different holidays and had specific dates. I think despite there 3-day weekend party attitude, there is a lot more recognition of the day then there was before it was consolidated. It is also the unofficial start of summer, so hard to blame people for getting out.

I think people with family in the military, esp. ones who have passed, are giving the holiday its proper due. Which at this point is a significant number of Americans. I'm sure they know Veteran's day is in November, not May.

I don't think it is problem to go out and enjoy the long weekend. Many, many soldiers, sailers, airmen and marines have given their lives so we can do just that. The gave all so that we can have the freedom to go BBQ or sit on a boat, and I would like to think that most of those who we've lost would like to see people enjoying the freedom they gave so much for. The only thing is, on Memorial day weekend especially, we need to remember, and be thankful for those who have enabled us to be able to live like this by giving their lives. So, go out and have fun, and at the same time, remember and be thankful for the people who have given all so that we can do all that we're able to do.

Is it any wonder why I turned to a life of trolling?

Or we could just be thankful every day cause that has more meaning...I dont need a holiday to tell me what to feel.
