Yesterday I am at work, and I answer the phone.

A man is screeching that Planet Fitness is "letting homeless stinky people get day passes and use rhe showers and it's all over Facebook!" I said I would mention it to a supervisor.

I didn't mention it to a supervisor. In many cases, I am where complaints go to die.

Also, a few weeks ago, my Planet Fitness got all new cardio equipment as well as additional plate loaded strength equipment.

We already have people complaining about the new cardio machines. Meanwhile, the old treadmills were squeaking, the belts were slipping, and electronic displays were faltering.

What exactly were we supposed to do? Dress in drag and do the hula?

This is one that’s become a real trend in Alaska.

Parents, schools, media, club teams etc. celebrating kids committing to play at some no name, two year only JuCo school with all the energy of signing with a D1 school.

I can understand celebrating if your kid signs with a D2 or even D3 school, way harder to do than anyone thinks. But “signing” to play with Southwestern Eastern Lutheran or Tacoma Community? Not so much.

To be fair, it’s really not the kids’ fault. It’s their (likely Gen X) rich parents and their “I spent so much money I want my participation trophy!” energy that these groups are forced to indulge.

Now this is only based on personal experience but, as the father of a 17 year old, I very rarely see any parents of my age (40) at events. Doubly so for competitive sports. Though I would agree it’s not a strictly Gen X parent thing.

I don't know if that's just an Alaska thing. For a while now schools around here have had signing days for anyone going on to play in college, so it runs the gamut from Juco to your NCCCA Bible schools with 200 students to Power 4 Division I all taking part together.

I know I haven't been to an MLB game since the pandemic, but prices have rocketed higher than Musk on Ketamine.

For funsies I looked at going to a game on my birthday because the Brewers are hosting the Twins for a weekend series. I remember going to a Twins game at the Metrodump versus the Brewers when I was eight. An usher brought me a cupcake with a candle in it between innings. Good memories. Would be fun to do that again.

Price for field level seats are three to four times what they were when I last went. Okay. Second deck isn't too bad, what can I find? Same inflated prices.

In fact, I found a ticket stub for Miller Park from 2006. Second deck. Row 20: $26.00.
Looked up that same section and row for this year: $267.00.

Never mind. I'll celebrate my birthday weekend watching on MLBtv.

I don’t know if it’s an issue on the MDOT side or how media reports on road projects, but it would be nice if a project stopped being labeled as finished when there is 3+ months worth of work left to do painting, median barriers, and whatever else they’re doing that closes multiple lanes and changes the layout daily.

But think of the poor execs who would miss out on their bonuses if the project (were declared to be) finished late!

Just wait for the announcement that they fucked it up somehow and it has to be torn up and done again. Like the I-75 Troy/Madison Heights project a few years ago.
