Gear Grinding 10: F-You! F-You! F-You! You're cool! F-You! I'm Out!

I ordered some merch from the Minnesota DFL to add to my donation and get a little swag the SO can wear and tick off her parent's neighbor who is a hardcore Evangelical. Ordered it 3 weeks ago, supposed to be delivered today. Click on the tracking information and see it is in...FRESNO! Now I admit I only teach Geography I am not an expert but Fresno is nowhere near Minnesota. So I investigate and I find out that the DFL runs their site through a company in Austin, TX who fulfils all the orders. (nothing like outsourcing jobs Minnesotans could have...but I digress) Fine, but you can drive from Austin to Minneapolis on literally 1 road in 17 hours. Hell you can walk it in like 18 days! And you know what you never have to phucking do...GO THROUGH PHUCKING CALIFORNIA!!

The best part is not just that it is currently in Fresno, but it has literally been through most of the Golden State. It stopped in LA, Santa Clarita, San Francisco and now of course Fresno. It has now seen more of California than I have!

The Minnesota DFL is not going to see much money from in the near future...

Had a moment the other day at my daughter’s appointment with an eye specialist. The tech was running the usual tests and then started going over the file. The tech, a female, asked my wife “and I assume you’re mom?” to which my wife replied yes. She then looked at me and asked “and what is your relationship?” I very coldly responded “I’m dad.” and was silently pretty upset from that point on.

My wife could not really understand why I was pretty upset. My daughter however did say “that was pretty rude.”

Part of my commute has been cut down to one lane for about a mile. The last two days semi trucks have decided to make it their job to eliminate the zipper merge and, in the last mile before the merge, either ride the middle of both lanes or move into the left lane and slow down and ride along another semi to stop anyone from passing.

I’ve seen that kind of behavior from civilian drivers before trying to be Arbiter of the Road, but usually the semis are content chilling in the right lane, where they’re supposed to be anyway.

GRRRRRR! My condo's management company sent an email on May 8 to inform us of fire alarm testing today. They said it was going to be in the common areas but we'd all here the alarm testing. It specifically stated they did NOT need access to units. So I arranged to pick up my car from service and work from my mom's today rather than tomorrow because of it. At 9:55am today, they send out an email that there was a TYPO in the email and they actually do need to get into people's units. I immediately emailed back, plus sent a message through the stupid app that I planned my day today because of their email and I better not get fined. I also showed their note to two different people to make sure I was reading it correctly. So aggravating!!

Had my first true close call on the motorcycle today on the commute home, thankfully saw it coming and was ready for it. Truck was merging onto the highway, I was in the left passing a car and sped up to get past it to let them come over behind me. Middle aged woman who was driving was apparently too busy chatting with her friend to bother checking her mirrors or even just turn her head and started to merge over when I was right there besides her. Even after I backed off and gave the "what the fark" gesture, she still never checked any of her mirrors.

Needless to say once we all got passed the truck I got the hell away from her as fast as possible.

Truckers are out of fucking control. I now regularly observe these idiots doing 15-20 over in the right lane. Just today trying to get back to GSP so we could get the hell out of Dixie, I was forced over into the next lane by one who sped up on a fucking zipper merge until he ran out of room and the on ramp lane was ending.

Day 3: Not a semi today but a landscaping company truck riding in the middle of both lanes.
