Re: Game of Thrones Season 6: Lions and Wolves and Sand Snakes, oh my!
This.
I don't like the end. Sue me. Endings matter. It's the greatest TV Show of all time perhaps but I'll never watch it again.
It was never the kind of show you'd watch again. It's candy. Sweet, sweet, wonderful candy but the sweetness is gone the second time through. The idiocy and absurdity of the show is why it's so fun, but it's only that: fun.
The greatest show in the history of television is either
The Twilight Zone or, if you like production value,
West World S1.
Varys and Tyrion end up idiots.
Varys is true to himself until the end.
Tyrion is an idiot because he's blinded by love. The only other time he was an idiot was with that hooker his dad set him up with. Love is the circuit break of reason. Tyrion cannot love and think at the same time.
Who wrote the history of Jamie and Greyjoy's battle? No witnesses.
We are the witnesses. I don't agree with this criticism at all: does it mean that every private conservation can't be portrayed because it couldn't have been recorded history? No, we are the ubiquitous all seeing witness of everything that occurs. That is our role.
It would actually have been brave and powerful to have one of the significant deaths occur entirely off camera -- then there truly would have been "no witnesses" and we would be left to imagine. That to me would have been the way to kill Jaime and Cersie. What on earth would they have to say to each other? Leave it to them, privately, and let us speculate forever. Leave a story that has one blank page.
Or the Mountain and The Hound? No witnesses.
I
loved their final scene! It's a loving homage to
the greatest sword fight in movie history. It was over the top, absurd, stupid, and amazing fun.
Jon Snow fell in love with a monster. Yes, he does know nothing.
Well, I mean, you love who you love. But I've never bought that which is way worse. There have been loves I've understood in the show: the tenderness of Tyrion for Sansa, the idealistic awe of Tyrion for Dany, even the spirited, "I know this is stupid but whatevs" passion of Ygritte for Jon.
But this supposed mutually passionate Aunt/Nephew hookup is the limp handshake of all love affairs. It's just so... guh.
Dany can't escape her family legacy? That's what 8 seasons was about? Really?
Well that's why they call it a legacy, right? Plus like I said I think Dany is actually being a tragic heroine though that's kind of tough on the slums of Kings Landing.
