Game of Thrones Season 6: Lions and Wolves and Sand Snakes, oh my!

The rest I agree with...its the same with those who scream about Star Wars...."Lucas ruined my movies!"
They aren't yours...they're his.

No. This is wrong.

Every creator knows that. A creation belongs to you until the curtain goes up. It belongs to the performers as long as the performance is on. Then it belongs to everyone.

Despite the show setting it up for Arya to kill dany, I still wish it would be Jon.
The scene where he let dany know he was no longer her lover seemed to be her final straw, and you could see it on his face the rest of the episode.
Although I wish that one of them would have acknowledged that he was her nephew.

It's going to be Jon. First law of pathos: the great butchering must be committed as an Act of Supreme Sacrifice and nobody else sacrifices anything by killing Dany. The last competitor was Tyrion when he lost his Faith.

I wonder whether Dany, in her Targyrean Nuttiness, thinks she is doing to realm the ultimate favor by serving as a wicked witch for Jon to kill, thus anointing him The Great Savior. Every hero needs a villain. So she torches Kings Landing to make herself Hitler, goading Jon into getting off his soft, wussy tush and finally do the right thing despite his whiney Hamlet act.

Pfft. The hot redhead had his number after one day. You know nothing, Jon Snow.

Or maybe she's just sick of Westeros and wanted to do something -- anything -- to relieve the boredom.

I’m hoping he stabs her in the throne room. And Drogon chooses to not torch him.

You might be right. Because there’s the issue of the dragon. If Dany dies, then either it dies or everyone else dies. Because Dany isn’t going to die without Drogon going bonkers. I don’t think it has a bond with anyone but its mother. I don’t think Dany survives though.

They could go a million ways with this. I can’t wait to see what they have for us.

Re: Game of Thrones Season 6: Lions and Wolves and Sand Snakes, oh my!

My only beef with last night was that it seemed Drogon's power was about 100x what it has been before. Makes last weeks silliness seem even dumber.

Maybe he (she?) was feeling piqued the prior week?

I was amazed by the increased firepower as well. Also disappointed how the scorpions went Chris Davis. She was flying so low it sure seemed like an easy mark. I'd have loved it if she figured out countermeasures. Some sort of jamming, or magic spell spamming that made it look like there were hundred of dragons at once. Didn't we used to kind of have magic in this show? Some dumb god could handle that. But instead the Big Reveal was "they just miss." That seemed extremely lazy.

I was thinking that Drogon would hesitate with Varys as some sort of magic "knower of the truth." I assume Jon not getting torched will indicate he is The Once And Future Bloddy Blah and finally convince him it's his music swells in the background destiny.

This.

I don't like the end. Sue me. Endings matter. It's the greatest TV Show of all time perhaps but I'll never watch it again. If this had happened in season 5 I would have shut it off much like I shut off Dexter after Season 5.

Varys and Tyrion end up idiots.
Who wrote the history of Jamie and Greyjoy's battle? No witnesses. Or the Mountain and The Hound? No witnesses. These are "historical texts" that they are based on, correct? Dumb.
Jon Snow fell in love with a monster. Yes, he does know nothing.
Dany can't escape her family legacy? That's what 8 seasons was about? Really?

I'll finish it cause it's got one episode left but I am rethinking about reading the books and the prequel.

It was never the kind of show you'd watch again. It's candy. Sweet, sweet, wonderful candy but the sweetness is gone the second time through. The idiocy and absurdity of the show is why it's so fun, but it's only that: fun.

The greatest show in the history of television is either The Twilight Zone or, if you like production value, West World S1.

Varys and Tyrion end up idiots.

Varys is true to himself until the end.

Tyrion is an idiot because he's blinded by love. The only other time he was an idiot was with that hooker his dad set him up with. Love is the circuit break of reason. Tyrion cannot love and think at the same time.

Who wrote the history of Jamie and Greyjoy's battle? No witnesses.

We are the witnesses. I don't agree with this criticism at all: does it mean that every private conservation can't be portrayed because it couldn't have been recorded history? No, we are the ubiquitous all seeing witness of everything that occurs. That is our role.

It would actually have been brave and powerful to have one of the significant deaths occur entirely off camera -- then there truly would have been "no witnesses" and we would be left to imagine. That to me would have been the way to kill Jaime and Cersie. What on earth would they have to say to each other? Leave it to them, privately, and let us speculate forever. Leave a story that has one blank page.

Or the Mountain and The Hound? No witnesses.

I loved their final scene! It's a loving homage to the greatest sword fight in movie history. It was over the top, absurd, stupid, and amazing fun.

Jon Snow fell in love with a monster. Yes, he does know nothing.

Well, I mean, you love who you love. But I've never bought that which is way worse. There have been loves I've understood in the show: the tenderness of Tyrion for Sansa, the idealistic awe of Tyrion for Dany, even the spirited, "I know this is stupid but whatevs" passion of Ygritte for Jon.

But this supposed mutually passionate Aunt/Nephew hookup is the limp handshake of all love affairs. It's just so... guh.

Dany can't escape her family legacy? That's what 8 seasons was about? Really?

Well that's why they call it a legacy, right? Plus like I said I think Dany is actually being a tragic heroine though that's kind of tough on the slums of Kings Landing.

The Inside the Episode does a good job of explaining their thinking. That being said I would have liked to have one arc of the 100's of arcs turn out the way I would have liked it to turn out. In this case I am coming up zero. If it had ended with the Night King I would have been very happy.

I think Jon is too scarred and I think that if he survives he goes back up north, never to be seen again. Sansa would be a better ruler and she may want it at this point

That would be logical but the way this thing has played out I cannot eliminate any possibility at this point.

I was thinking she adjusted her attack after last week — she came in at an angle she knew would buy her time as they’d have to turn and entirely change their aim, and that allowed her to light the sea up, and continue to do that as she attacked King’s Landing.

It was bad*** when she said “you’ll know when...” and then came through from behind lightning everyone up.

That may be. Ideally they melt down the iron throne and declare the seven kingdoms to be independent. Sansa is Queen in the North. Jon gets wherever the Targyreans' home base is, or let him skulk off into the desert High Plains Drifter style. Make the ruins of the keep in Kings Landing a Hiroshima shrine.

Re: Game of Thrones Season 6: Lions and Wolves and Sand Snakes, oh my!

I've loved the series. But I think it would have been interesting if Martin had finished the books.

I thought last night's episode was fine, in fact was pretty good. I thought Jaime's end was odd given that we've basically watched 8 seasons of moving towards redemption for him. I guess I'll wait to see what the writers/producers have to say about it.

Tyrion seems destined for a roasting on the spit.

That will leave Dany's fate, and perhaps the decision as to who sits on the throne as the final issues to wrap up.

Personally I think we'll see Jon Snow go north. I'm not sure he'll kill Dany. I could easily see him just get on a horse and go look for his wolf.

I have to believe that we're in for another Arya killing in light of how much time they spent on her in episode 5, basically dodging death the whole episode only to ride off on a white horse before the closing credits. Or maybe it's just a faint, but I'm not so sure.

I could see Jon taking out Grey Worm before he leaves with Arya then using that face to get close to Dany.

I also think we could be in for a Sopranos style ending, with part of the story unfinished as they fade to black. Maybe Arya disguised as Grey Worm approaching Dany. Or maybe after Dany is offed, a decision on the new king/queen left hanging.

Re: Game of Thrones Season 6: Lions and Wolves and Sand Snakes, oh my!

I honestly didn’t think Jaime’s ending was that bad. I read something that helped really put it into frame for me. He’s an addict. He’s associated to Cersei. His addiction killed him.

I suppose we don’t know they’re dead, but I’m pretty comfortable saying that was their send off.

Not a very satisfying ending to his story arc but it's a logical ending.

They're dead.

They said as much in the Inside the Episode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W8j6wOvxuo&t=319s

I am as well — guy in our office is very confident we haven’t seen the last of those two, particularly as has been discussed due to the character development Jaime has had throughout the show.
