Future of the ccha????

Re: Future of the ccha????

Notre Dame's departure from the CCHA is imminent as well, and Western Michigan will likely follow. If the NMU and Alaska moves become final, that would leave the CCHA as a shell of its former self, including only Bowling Green, Ferris State and Lake Superior State. That would leave the league near extinction.

And people thought I was kidding when I said "death".

Re: Future of the ccha????

A handful of us predicted that NMU would be looking to the WCHA after they announced they were aggressively reviewing their conference affiliations. They were a perfect fit for many reasons.

But notice no WCHA discussion (and perhaps no interest) regarding WMU. It looks like they're heading the way of FSU, etc.

Either that or you're looking at something that was discussed here from the moment that the BHHC rumors started getting serious: the leftover WCHA and CCHA teams would form one conference. Assume that Notre Dame finds their own option, only FSU, BGSU, WMU, LSSU and UAH are in the open, and let's not pretend like they aren't calling Bruce McLeod right now.

That's just going to create a giant cluster * if you add the WCHA and CCHA together "just to save them."

The CCHA NEEDS to stay in existence to allow room to expand the sport. The B1G conference can only add B1G schools. The Motel 6 conference is too secular to allow expansion unless you bring a sh**load of dimes.

The CCHA NEEDS to stay alive, or there will be continued shuttering of programs. They need to get the CHA schools out of AHA, and all together in the CCHA (minus Bemidji).

Re: Future of the ccha????

Niagara University, Robert Morris, UAH, Mercyhurst, and maybe Canisus. These schools would at least listen to the possibility of joining the CCHA especially UAH. It would create a league without too many outliers besides UAH. Most of the trips wouldn't be to bad in terms of bus rides especially if Ferris state cuts through Canada for road trips to NY.

Atlantic hockey would loose a few teams but would still be in decent shape and would be able to take on new teams again like Navy.

Yeah, no. Everything done so far has been "Everyone for themselves." Don't expect now that you've found your home that suddenly we're going to see a change to "Let's do what's best for hockey." The CCHA is dead.

Those among the AHA that are thinking about full scholarship programs shouldn't dismiss the idea.

And it does give Navy something to think about (although it's hard to assume that they're going to finally make the jump up).

Unfortunately for them, Bruce McLeod is probably catching a matinee showing of Transformers 3 or practicing his putting at the local country club instead of caring about the future of FSU, BGSU, WMU, LSSU and UAH.

He hasn't in the past, so why would Bruce start worrying about any college hockey teams now?

At least he attempts to look like he bumbles his way into caring. Anastos told Wayne State flat out to never submit a request to the CCHA; it would be denied because the "conference was full."

Re: Future of the ccha????

My favorite "McLeod Moment":

Back when the volcano outside of Anchorage was feared to be close to erupting, UND AD Brian Faison was explaining to a room full of UND Boosters that the WCHA has no emergency plan for such situations, nor for any situation where a team is trapped, either at home, on the road, or in between, and can't complete a scheduled game.

Faison (former AD at NMSU and AAD at other places) said he'd never seen a league without some sort of contingency plan for unusual (formerly called "act of God" but that's no longer PC) circumstances.

If McLeod can't put a contingency plan together, what makes any of you think he's thinking about media deals (clearly not), the future of the remnants of the WCHA, or the remainders of the CCHA?

What do you care? You're shed of him.

Actually I can see the Secular 6 poaching from the WCHA or CCHA again. A team gets strong and popular and they invite them in offering a "great deal" ;) Say they get a TV deal that adds to the kitty would team not jump?

Re: Future of the ccha????

Make it like European soccer. The winner of the WCHA gets promoted to the top flight league and the cellar dweller of the whatever it's called gets dumped to the WCHA each year.

And the BHHC winner goes B1G? That does seem like the pecking order of raging jealousy. ;)

Re: Future of the ccha????

Back to the CCHA: Let's suppose that the rumors are true, and in addition to losing Miami to the BHHC, Notre Dame has other plans, and UA(F) and NMU are going to the WCHA. I see no reason to deny any of that. Now it really is down to WMU, BGSU, FSU and LSSU.

What are the odds that they can pick up at least two more schools (UAH, RMU, Niagara, Mercyhurst or some other school TBD)? What are the odds that they try to latch on with the WCHA, like UA and NMU are? What are the odds that they just slowly become the next CHA and piece by piece fade into oblivion?
