Future of the ccha????

Re: Future of the ccha????

The WCHA already has a waiver from the full d1 membership issue. The cha also had that waiver before it's demise.

Good, with kingdobbs' information, the WCHA ought to be fine with NMU's addition. I still say the CCHA's best bet is convincing those four AHA schools to come over, but we'll see what happens.

Re: Future of the ccha????

Would UAH really be considered that much of an outlier with the potential "new" CCHA teams?

Lake is heading to Huntsville this year; BG, Mercyhurst, Ferris doing home/home with them between last year and this. RMU visited Huntsville last year, and along with Niagara made the trip regularly as part of the CHA. Outside that, Ohio State, RPI and Providence also have home/home scheduled (or already played - RPI). Thier growing relationship with the Predators (Merramack last year, UNO this year) and the college showcase could become a bigger event.

These teams have stepped up to work with UAH when they really didn't have to, would like to think the travel not as big an issue as people may think.

Trust me, I know exactly where it is in relation to all the other DI schools. My point is that the distance hasn't stopped teams from scheduling home/home or making trips to Huntsville/Nashville and the teams that are being talked about for the potential CCHA are among the closest schools.

I wasn't directing at you specifically, it a good frame of reference for anybody right now.

The only thing I could see against this argument is that with the B1Gs, ND, and Miami leaving for sure, and with Western and Northern allegedly on the outs as well, the remaining CCHA programs are likely the three with the smallest budgets, who relied the most upon visits from the B1G + ND and their cut of the CCHA tourney revenue. Without that, maybe they won't be able to afford that travel in a few years' time.

Not saying that it's true or that it will go down that way, but I could see that being the excuse. On the other hand, with a couple of the leftover teams having agreed to swap series with the Chargers, it seems likely that most of the departing schools are the ones who voted against Huntsville's membership a couple years ago.

maybe thats those school programs. No instead most college hockey fans want to blame the big bad big ten schools.

There is no blame to be put on the Big 10 schools themselves. It's just a fact of life that when a sixth Big10 school (Penn State) added hockey, they were bound by the conference to operate under the Big 10 banner. No blame for the individual schools or Barry Alvarez or Minnesota or Michigan. Just a fact of life that has to be accepted.

Yes, their by-laws have "self-interests first" clauses. Good for them. That's why I have no issue when others operate in "self-interests first" mode as well.

Then why all the talk that "no, just because there are 6 doesn't mean we have to form a conference." Until it was eminent there was no real discussion of this having to happen NOW. It was all about how it was likely to happen eventually but more likely after Penn State found its footing.

Re: Future of the ccha????

CCHA & WCHA remaining teams should just join up into one great league and add Huntsville-Alabama. IMO.

I hate what the B1G TEN did but I can't fault them because they as a conference have 100 years of history vs the WCHA being around 60+ years...

Re: Future of the ccha????

Penn State was not going to agree to play in the CCHA. I could see spending a few extra years as an independent, but you would have potential new PSU hockey fans wondering why. If there isn't a strong push for Big Ten Hockey right off the bat, Pegula probably doesn't donate his money. End of discussion.

That may happen in time. Right now, things are being done on what is best for the schools, instead of the Conf. NMU and UA_ are going to the WCHA, Western and Notre Dame I think will join the new league in time. LSSU, Ferris and Bowling Green are going to be left on their own.

and give up one of the autobids? no way...they should create 2 conferences of 6-8 teams each and have some interlocking scheduling.

No question get two conferences at about 8 each. Pull in the autobids just like the midmajors do in bball. Work a deal between the two conferences as a group they have some power. Individually they have nearly none.

The B1G did what everyone should have expected once that money landed at PSU. I believe in every sport that has at least 6 B1G member teams they schedule under the B1G league.

If NMU and UA_ join the 5 remaining, they will probably add one more. Everything for the Sioux-Per League points to them staying at 7 if Notre Dame joins because Notre Dame wants to maximize its opportunities to play the B1G TEN and the big boys from Hockey East.

Fan chatter, not league chatter.

Uhm, no there were Q&As with Big Ten officials discussing the process and they were stating that it did not have to happen, but could happen once there were 6 members. Talking about the unique situation in Hockey.
