EDIT: Wait BU never knocked us out of the NCAA tournament
But you must have had a million nightmares where they did... "What a brilliant play by Poulin to win it for the Terriers!!!"

Oh God she already did that to me once a year ago for her other red team

Re: Fun With Numbers '14-'15: USCHO Posters Poll, Pairwise What-Ifs, and Other Goodie

Early Tuesday evening musings.

The current top trio's record for 3 years running and also 4 years running

3 years running
BC - 67-14-7
UM - 91-3-3
Wis - 64-20-5

4 years running
BC - 91-24-10
UM - 125-8-5
Wis - 97-25-7

Minnesota has set the bar so high that if they lose a game or two it really does seem like they are overrated.

Re: Fun With Numbers '14-'15: USCHO Posters Poll, Pairwise What-Ifs, and Other Goodie

The early season poll chaos is starting to settle down.

1. BC - and the beat goes on... but would be fun to find a team that can expose a weakness. Maybe just play SLU again? Can we make that happen?
2. Minn - loved the line in Wednesday's Women.. "sporting a 12-1-2 record but with some people considering it a down year so far." That's a high standard they've set.
3. Wisc - and if it weren't for BC and Minn, this team is #1!
4. QU - only scored 5 goals in 3 games.... teams above them do that in 3 periods
5. Clarkson - solid players across the board... this team is just like QU minus 1 spot
6. UMD - deservedly in the 6 position and no higher... they lost to ND and tied UConn (and we now know what those teams are and aren't)
7. BSU - BSU is to UMD what Clarkson is to QU
8. Harvard - don't deserve this spot, but if there's a horse that's going to make a big move down the stretch, it's this one
9. St Lawrence - I think this team beats BU every day of the week, at least this week
10. Boston U - It's Mercyhurst or BU in this slot... me thinks BU beats Mercy on neutral ice

Still too much credit given to those who don't play anyone. Not the top three those...they're all solid. But have to choose:

1. MN
2. UW
3. BC
4. Clarkson
5. UMD
6. Quinnipiac
7. BSU
8. BU
9 Harvard
10. Mercyhurst

Just curious as to why you have Clarkson #4 when they are 0-3-1 vs Quinny, BU and Hahvad?

No problem. You just have to look at the big picture. Per the PWR, Clarkson has a better record against tough competition (i.e., TUC) as well as common competition with those schools. In fact, Clarkson has a better PWR overall than BU and Harvard. Clarkson's position as a better team is validated by USCHO poll where its higher than BU/Harvard...so it shouldn't be a big shocker. As far as Quinnipiac goes, the only team they played so far is Clarkson. Those who thought Cornell was an awesome team were proven wrong. Wait until a team starts playing real competition, before awarding them too much.

Just looked at the QU results to make sure I remembered correctly. They beat Clarkson.

Extremely close game though, and they will likely have a rematch this weekend. If Quinnipiac wins again then not only will Quinnipiac's high rank be validated but it will likely move Clarkson down. The losses to BU were early in the season, they were still working out the kinks between having a lot of new players and a new coaching staff. I don't believe it would be the same result if they played again now.
