Frozen Four: Denver, Notre Dame, Harvard, Minnesota-Duluth

how does that 3 day pass work? if one stays out at ohare are they able to use that? or is that surcharge added on each ride?

The O'Hare Blue Line L stop is only located in the terminal of O'Hare. If you're staying near O'Hare, you will be mostly using the Rosemont Blue Line stop. And walking or taking a hotel shuttle to/from that stop. Or at least I would.

The three day pass could be a good option if you plan on using the L system a lot. If you fly out Sunday day, you can hotel shuttle to the airport or pay the $2.25.

So Domers: Any special buzz on campus about being in a FF that's being played only ~70 miles away? Or has anyone outside of the hockey hardcore even noticed because it's not football or bouncyball?

Re: Frozen Four: Denver, Notre Dame, Harvard, Minnesota-Duluth

Does anyone know where the UMD and Notre Dame official fan gathering bars are in Chicago? I believe Harvard and Denver is Park Tavern.

About as much as you'd expect. Meaning very little. Blue and Gold football game is happening just two weeks after the FF. Priorities after all.

Read on twitter UMD is at the Ogden Hotel.

Ok folks - has anyone won the D1 title as a coach AND as a player?

There are 2 at D3 (Coghlin & Dawes).

Mike Eaves University of Wisconsin. As a player in 1977, as a coach in 2006. George Gwozdecky as a player at Wisconsin in 1977 and as head coach at Denver in 2004 and 2005.

Mark Johnson also won a title with that '77 Wisconsin squad, and has won a few D1 Women's titles at Wisconsin. Have to wonder what was in the water in Madison in 1976-1977? :p:D:D

Good catch. Didn't think of that one. I would guess a coaching staff that included Bob Johnson, Grant Standbrook, and Bill Howard had something to do with it. But then again it was the 70's and who knows what kind of s**t was in the water.

Re: Frozen Four: Denver, Notre Dame, Harvard, Minnesota-Duluth

Interesting history behind the DU/ND game. Jeff Jackson won two NCs in '92 and '94 at Lake Superior State and also advanced to the Frozen Four in '93. Ironically, that ’93 Lakers team fell victim in the NCAA title game to three straight goals by Maine player, Jim Montgomery. Twenty-four years later, Jim Montgomery who is now head coach of DU will get yet another shot at crashing Jackson's party. Montgomery was also a member of Jackson’s staff in South Bend in Jackson’s first year with the Irish in 2005-06.

More trivia, you say?? :) Of the 16 head coaches whose teams made the NCAAs, Jackson ranks second with 14 career NCAA appearances behind Gopher coach, Don Lucia.

Jackson and Lucia are an interesting comparison:

Lucia:
30 Seasons (.638 winning %)
18 NCAA Tournament Appearances
22-16 Record
7 Frozen Fours
4 National Title Game Appearances
2 National Championships

Jackson:
18 Seasons (.656 winning %)
14 NCAA Tournament Appearances
21-12 Record
6 Frozen Fours
4 National Title Game Appearances
2 National Championships

Both are definitely way behind Jerry York, and a tad behind Red Berenson, as far as active coaches are concerned, but I can't think of any current coach who has a better resume than either Lucia or Jackson. Jackson, of course, has the chance to really vault himself into the pantheon of all-time great NCAA coaches with a third NCAA Title and titles with multiple programs (something only Jerry York and Ned Harkness have achieved) with two wins this weekend.

Yes, interesting comparison indeed! Jeff "Quiet Man" Jackson often seems to fly under the radar in the national conversation of elite D1 coaches. I was just checking again and I was surprised to learn that among all active D1 coaches with > 700 total games (York/1761/.619, Berenson/1366/.654, Lucia/1203/.638, Umile/1047/.611, Jackson/745/.656, Blais/719/.611), Jackson has the highest winning %.
