frozen four attendance

Re: frozen four attendance

Just looked at Ticketmaster. Lots more seats than I expected still available. Almost half the upper deck and 3 of the corners had seats even in the lower bowl. I find it hard to believe the schools returned their allotments already but if so I imagine the corner with only a few seats is North Dakota's. BC fans have been priority holders due to so many recent appearances so their fans are somewhat scattered so it is understandable they don't sell out their allotment. Denver has a core group but usually does not quite fill their sections. Surprised Quinnipiac may not have fared any better than DU.

The days of buying for maintaining priority points and trying to sell may have run out for all but those at the highest priorities as they at least have decent seats to sell. Anyone further down is wasting their money doing so. Having a middle level priority makes it safe to always get tickets when you want to do so and somewhat decent seats. It is no longer necessary to always buy, just when you find a location or year you desire instead. Just maybe people outside of BC and North Dakota fans are tired of seeing those two teams too often. As a BC fan I understand the disdain for my team by other fans. I would feel the same if I were them.

In my view, why is this surprising? It was a novelty the first time, but Florida is not a college hockey hotbed (I said COLLEGE hockey). Same with Anaheim. I'm willing to bet if you went there again it would not sell out, either (although at least there would probably be a better chance because it has been 16 years). I mean, think about it. The closest school is what, 1500 miles away? I'm not going to go if I don't have a rooting interest...it was 72 degrees today in New England. I'm not going to spend $1500 to go to Florida because there's a "coastal beach." We walked on the beach today! For free.

I just think the NCAA is pushing its luck. How many people would go to the NCAA water polo tournament if it were held in Green Bay? I just don't understand why every year we go through this and then wonder, "Gee, I wonder why it wasn't close to being sold out?" What do you expect?

Are we ever going to smarten up to the "growing the game" excuse? Why would you consistently hold the biggest event of the year in the sport in places that AREN'T college hockey hotbeds? Shouldn't we maximize the interest (and attendance) by having the games in a location where the casual fan would also be more likely to attend?

Also, Amalie Arena is a large area seating 19,092 compared to Boston's TD Garden at 17,565 so there are an extra 1,500 seats to fill from the start. Still a bit disappointed in the sales. Tampa did a phenomenal job in 2012. Yes, the weather is great. 70 one day and then snow this weekend <<< 80s every day and spending day and night outside. Was hoping to see Tampa host on a regular basis.

..it was 72 degrees today in New England. e

And you're getting 5in of snow Monday :p

Mookie already got 3 courses lined up that are in the top 50 modern list, and another that has been but is now JUST top 125 ;)
Gonna add another top 75 for pregame Thursday.

(Have to go play 4 temp greens in 2hrs :(. Mookie not sad about Tampa)

Re: frozen four attendance

It's the same every year regarding FF attendance and Regionals attendance.
All of the cheap precks that never attend the games just love to beeotch about the empty seats they see on TV.
Here's an idea... no more TV. Then the cheap precks either have to attend the games, or, they have something new to beeotch about. . . not being able to see the games. Gee, I wonder which one it will be?

Rant over. :D

Re: frozen four attendance

I gave my tickets to my son as a graduation present but I wish I was going. I thought 2012 as a blast. Loved the weather, hanging outside of the arena both days. Went to Busch gardens, had some good meals in Ybor city. My son and a buddy of his will be there, He'll have a Maine jersey on and She is RIT student working at Disney for a semester.

We're taking a flight with your son on Saturday!

If they went back to true "regionals" where at least the teams stayed east or west, I wouldn't so much mind them not being on TV. I do like to watch the games though when I can't make a regional. I've been going to the FF every year now and unfortunately, I'm usually left to make a decision on the other early March road trips. This year I chose the Clarkson/SLU playoff series because it's the best rivalry in college hockey and the women's Frozen Four rather than the ECAC championships (for obvious reasons). If I went to the regional the following weekend, I'm quite sure I'd be out looking for a new girlfriend.

OK, but obviously you're extending your stay (given that it takes 5 hours to play a round). We had one day off in DC and went to visit Monticello, which took the entire day. But you don't like Boston because you live in Massachusetts. Everyone like to go someplace "different" - so you're a little biased. :D #neverBoston

Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but that wasn't MY point. Not everyone can travel, either due to work commitments or finances. I'm just saying the "percentages" are that you would get bigger crowds if you played the games someplace where there was actually a college hockey team in the same time zone!

there are college hockey teams in the following time zones

Eastern
Central
Mountain
Pacific (arizona state in october/late march)
Alaska

Which regionals have been held outside of these timezones?

Anaheim in '99 would certainly qualify by your definition

;) :D

FYI, there will only be an hour in between the end of game one and start of game two. The arena needs to be cleared between games so be prepared to stand in line and possibly miss puck drop in game 2.

5 hours for a round? I mean, maybe if you're spraying balls across 3 fairways and spending 5 minutes looking for it. Normal pace is about 4 hours, I'd guess that a player of mookie's capability, given no back ups around the course, likely averages a bit less than that.

What courses do you have lined up, mookie?

The word "timezone" was hyperbolic, referring to the fact that there are no teams CLOSE to Tampa (unless you include Alabama-Huntsville). I could have used the word "galaxy" or "planet" and you should have gotten the meaning... :)

Not four hours where I play...unless it's at six in the morning or four in the afternoon. Especially in a "resort" area. I know they "make" you take carts, but still. And, besides, you have to get there, eat, drink, get back. You get my point. He can't play five rounds in 2 1/2 days...so obviously he's "extending" his stay. I have been playing for 50 years and have a 12 handicap (7 at my peak), so I hardly "spray" the ball all over the place...I can play in 3:15 if I'm by myself on a non-Wednesday weekday, but that eventually doesn't present itself very often.

mookie rarely takes more than 4hrs :D

driving north to hit black diamond ranch one day
going down to naples to play calusa
doing 36 at streamsong day between games.

going to call over to old memorial and see if they can take me thursday or saturday before game time.
then mookie will have another day to fill with something close to town...
