Frozen 4 site selections?

Re: Frozen 4 site selections?

Would certainly be an issue if BU made the FF more than once every other decade

Jeez imagine if they had a clean record and got in to Canada and then got arrested for assaulting some Canadian chicks.

Locked up abroad: BU edition.

Jack Parker will reprise the role of Joe McGrath bailing the Hanson brothers out of jail.

Re: Frozen 4 site selections?

Maybe this should be a poll, but who here who went to Denver in 2008 felt that it was less "meaningfully intense and fan-centric" than in Anaheim in 1999? My understanding it went pretty well. Let me check off some things fans want:
1. Walking distance from downtown - check
2. Taxi/parking - check
3. Public transportation - check (both on bus lines and light rail station)
4. Bars/restaurants within easy walking distance to arena - check
5. Not in the middle of a dangerous area of town - check (and as a matter of fact, since Boston, according to ATT wireless, only St Paul and Denver are the only two cities who have hosted and did not have what is labelled RED ZONES where cell towers are off limits after dark without police escort)
6. Affordable accommodations - check
7. Within two hours driving time to any Hockey East school - um, okay, you got me here...

Point seven is the only real complaint I heard. Not an easy drive from anywhere. Same issue than in Tampa. How again was it worse than Anaheim?

To opine that Anaheim was more fancentric than Denver is ridiculous. Could there be a worst place in the United States to hold a college hockey championship than Anaheim, the land of parking lots and strip malls?. Not sure how many here were part of the old Hockey L dinners but I will never forget the one in Anaheim when we had to book it at the only venue within walking distance of the arena. Naturally the place was overrun by folks who are used to having eating and drinking options within walking distance. And since there none, the place was overrun. And how about the off day. What did folks do? Well you could either go to Disneyland, take a tour bus to Hollywood (which my wife and daughter did) or hop in the rental car and drive to Huntington Beach (which I did with friends). Add all that to the fact that the game was not sold out, the local newspaper had a headline about playing hockey with facemasks, and the fact that no one in Orange County gave a rat's *** about the games, it will be a loooong time before Anaheim or its like will ever be considered.

OC would never be considered again, even though the Ducks are more popular now. As you stated - there's nothing to do there. Anaheim isn't a city, it's a suburb. At least Staples has public transportation nearby, more parking, close to (an admittedly mediocre) downtown, etc. And the Kings following is pretty solid, they'd probably sell a few tickets from them. That said, LA would be a terrible choice compared to the other choices regularly available. Washington DC would be 234092342340238745 times better than LA.

Re: Frozen 4 site selections?

Somewhere along the line Dickald became convinced the entire world pissed in his Cheerios.

I think it was just year after year of predicting how good UAA would be and having them never get to the F5 wore him down. I suspect that's what made him a cranky old man.

You know better than that.

McGrath was too much of a cheapskate; it was Ned Braden who bailed them out :p

Re: Frozen 4 site selections?

So I'll be 34 the next time the championchip game is in my backyard? Maybe I'll act like an adult.
Why would you want to do that?

I can't compare to Anaheim since I wasn't there, but I thought Denver was a really good host. My one gripe is that the Pepsi Center is maybe a tiny bit too far from all the bars and restaurants on the other side of that little river for it to be convenient to go out and back between semifinals, but that's an awfully think hair to split (and one that could easily be remedied by a longer window between games if the NCAA were so inclined). It's true that it's not really drivable for most, but... I mean, you'd have to have it in Michigan or Ohio every year if you wanted that to be the case.

Dumb **** ... whether or not Vancouver would be a good place for the Frozen Four has absolutely nothing to do with my beloved Anchorage. Conflate much? Exaggerate often? Diarrhea? Yes, UAA and UAF should work together to make a bid in Vancouver. Everybody hated Anaheim; it might work better again in L.A. (I don't disagree with that per se ... ) but, Vancouver would provide a unique fan experience while bringing all the elements together that regular Frozen Four attendees demand. Unless and until you are willing and/or capable of discussing the topic (whether by general argument or a point by point refutation of my assertions) then you'd best be served by refraining from the exceedingly ridiculous ad hominem. Translation for St. Cloud fans: Shut the H-E-double L up.

Enjoy living in Detroit.

Re: Frozen 4 site selections?

It's the gift that keeps on giving!

I will say that many of you are underestimating the appeal of a Frozen Four in LA though. I for one approve the idea of me watching hockey while enjoying a double double animal style.

Surprisingly, there are no in-n-outs close to downtown :(.
