Friars Hockey 22-23: Everybody Gets A Thread

The league was MUCH better under previous coaches...

Give it up Zlax, almost everything you post is pure BS and does not hold up to scrutiny. Would be good to take a long break from this site and work on getting your head straight. Maybe come back next season with a post after a victory with something complimentary to say, (or if you can't do that because it would violate your rules, then an even better suggestion is don't come back at all).

His posts aren't ever worth the time or attention given but due to not getting attention at home he comes here. PC wins: Has nothing say. PC loses: Zlax wows us with his elite college hockey coaching background to lecture himself on how Nate Leaman haunts his dreams and is, therefore, a very bad man.

I'm looking forward to talking offseason hockey and hopeful that our useless troll will seek psychological help for his real issues.

I've been paying attention to a few of the kids PC has coming in next year, and curious what Divver's comment on the transfer portal rumors is going to bring. Anybody else have a reliable New England source for college hockey information?

Divver the mouthpiece for Nate Leaman and Jerry Keefe??

The league got a grand total of 2 teams in the NCAA tournament this year with Merrimack just sneaking in.

Here is the last of Friars in the portal...as of now

Providence (F) Patrick Moynihan (1 YOE)
Providence (F) Cody Monds (2 YOE)
Providence (D) Luke Johnson (1 YOE)
Providence (F) Michael Citara (2 YOE)
Providence (D) Uula Ruikka (2 YOE)
Providence (F) Grant Porter (3 YOE)

Say what you will of ExLax, but how in the world could anyone disagree with what you just quoted from him?
Maybe it’s a reading comprehension problem or lacking an understanding of context. Nate Leaman has been the coach at Providence for 12 years and has been extremely successful by any fair standard. So Hockey East having a low number of participants in this year’s NCAA tournament demonstrates nothing about the strength of the league over the entire 12 years, (and that one measure of league strength isn’t a standard to begin with - there are many factors to consider). Even if that is your standard then do some homework and list league participation year by year for 12 years and see if your argument holds up. My assumption is that it won’t, just as every other jackass pointless comment by Zlax falls apart. He is a reckless and thoughtless critic who never presents a balanced point of view. Perhaps he would enjoy participating in your thread more, please guide him as to where to go.

Hockey East has three titles in Leaman's tenure with PC. The NCHC has five and the ECAC two. Hockey East has had only two runners up in that time period.

I have been reading the back-and-forth about Coach Leaman’s record at Providence with interest and in my opinion both sides have valid points. Beginning with his 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] season he has had the best cumulative winning percentage of any PC coach since WWII:

Yes, it has trended slightly downward the past few seasons, but his record has been clearly the best. Furthermore, over the past 12 seasons Providence has had the third best record in Hockey East:

That said, when you look more closely at his records, you start to see some issues. In Hockey East play Providence is fourth, as their winning percentage drops from 0.600 to 0.576:

So yes, Coach Leaman is the best PC ever, but he has fallen off the past 7 seasons and hasn't done as well in the Hockey East Tournament.

Sean

Thanks for the excellent work Sean, this is impressive to me. Please feel free to post here anytime.

One of the issues for Nate is that the Boston schools always have a leg up in recruiting. With the Beanpot, the big city vibe, and their historical sports and academic reputation, if you can go there why would you choose PC? PC always needs to find the hidden gem, (and he has done really well with that), but now more than ever when he gets one of those they don't stick around. So for example, when Jack Dugan, who was a phenomenal passer comes along but leaves as a sophomore after the 2019-20 season, you don't necessarily have a good chance to catch the next player of that caliber right away. To achieve what he has at Providence is extra special I think. Imagine what he could do at one of those schools. Look at his 2021 World Junior Gold medal team, where he had (BC's) Spencer Knight as his goalie, and (BU's) Trevor Zegras on offense.

Also wanted to comment on a couple of data points Zlax mentioned. On his NCAA title winners comment, there were 3 for Hockey East in the last 10 Tournaments with 5 for NCHC schools and 2 for ECAC schools. So with 6 D1 conferences the other 3 had zero, none for independents either. Isn't that an indication that those are the weak conferences and the winners are in stronger conferences? And if you think getting into the NCAA tourney is a good gage of conference strength, I count 37 Hockey East schools represented in these same 10 seasons. That is an average of 3.7 per year which is way above an average of 1/6th (2.667) out of 16 each year. So if you are using this data to prove the league is weak, I think you have actually proved the opposite.

Yes, superb break down, Sean.
Let’s take it a step further and look at their record over the past 4 yrs, since advancing to the final four. PC’s conference record ranks 7th overall during that span and is tied for 8th in total wins with Merrimack. Based on NF’s statement, is Nate struggling to recruit over programs like UConn, Umass, and UML as well or is it something else? Based on NHL draft picks, he’s had more talent the past 4 years than any time prior.

Give it a rest Piggly and Zlax, it is whack-a-mole with you two, (or are you just one poster). Once your latest criticism is shown to be a farce, another idiotic one emerges. Isn’t there a site that would appreciate your foolish point of view more. It just goes on and on for no good reason. Enough!

I'd be interested to see the actual list of incoming players, if anyone has a reliable link. Between CHN and College Hockey Inc there are some differences.
