FFFF Semi (4/8): Wisconsin vs. RIT

Re: FFFF Semi (4/8): Wisconsin vs. RIT

I'm not sure it favors any team.. gives both team a week or so to review video and so forth.

Even though I will be rooting for RIT very hard, I can look at this a little more objectively than some.

I think the layoff favors Wisconsin big time. First of all, RIT is not going to be able to sneak up on anyone. Wisconsin now knows they have to respect RIT, unlike DU and UNH did.

Because of that, the Wisconsin coaches will be hammering that point to their players for two weeks. They'll have time to let it sink in, unlike if they had to turn around two days later and head to Detroit. In a short time span, overconfidence can still abound. When the players have time to settle down and think about their opponent, they will listen to their coaches more.

This also gives the coaches plenty of time to review tapes. You know they know they have to completely dissect RIT's play, something I suspect the DU and certainly the UNH coaches didn't spend a lot of time on.

Yes, RIT also has lots of time to prepare. But when a better team takes their preparation time seriously, it's always going to favor the better team.

Re: FFFF Semi (4/8): Wisconsin vs. RIT

Well, remember that UW's played 3 games against DU and 2 games against UNH (granted, those two were a long time ago) this season, so there's a lot of comparative tape to look at. UW also knows the one other common opponent - Mankato - quite well. DU probably only really had the Mankato tape to work with comparatively - it's a lot harder to draw conclusions from a small sample size against largely inferior competition in Atlantic Hockey.

Anyway, both coaching staffs should have plenty of tape to look at this time around. The element of surprise is gone.

The layoff also gives the coaches more leeway to skate the players hard in practice if they don't think they're focused enough.

How do the coaches keep their teams sharp?

Eaves and Lucia were in talks about having a couple of scrimmage games this weekend, but it was decided that the Badgers needed stronger competition, so my men's league team is getting the call.

Oh yeah. I bet they're having some brutal practices this week and then they'll get back to normal next week.

I seem to remember that being the case in 06 also.

I didn't know there was a press conference yesterday; is there video of it online?
Powers &8^]

No video. It was a conference call for media only conducted by the NCAA. Each team phoned in from their own site and press called in.

Now that's funny... :D

All I have seen is UW fans giving RIT huge props on the way they have played.

Really? Hmm, maybe I was just paying attention to the ones that said they were going to kill us.

Also I feel dumb because I thought the people saying Go Red were Cornell fans. :o

I hope Wisconsin is as cocky as a lot of their fans seem to be.

Other than VW or UW14, um, that really not the case at all. Even those 2 have really toned it down. It's the Frozen Four, all 3 games should be tight. And if you think we're cocky, you haven't bumped into the Sue fans on this board. They seem to have taken the Rodent arrogance and compounded it by 1000.

On paper UW would seem to have more NHL talent, but that's projected ability at the next level, and that doesn't necessarily translate to actual play at the college level. Just as the Rodents. :D

I was looking at RIT's roster Friday, it's an older Canadian team (a 23 yr old freshman?!), and therefore a physically and mentally mature team. That would help any team's chances, along with a very good dose of talent. Of course, being older and Canadian hasn't helped UAA or Tech over the years.

Let's Go RED!!!!!!!!!

I had to reread this entire thread and I have not seen one mention that UW is going to "kill" RIT. Or anything else of that nature. Now I have not read every post in the UW thread but come on dude, lets act like an adult and stop the schoolyard crap.

You think what you want to but myself along with most other UW fans hope RIT cools down because the are playing some great hockey. This game will be played close with lots of big hits. Hopefully UW can keep their hands down and finish off checks without getting a penalty called on them.

The marvelous thing about the internet is that you can easily link to the posts that you are referring to. Please do so.
