Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

I was wrong. I have something else to say.

Normally I would advise our faithful to ignore the polls, as they are worthless. This time I am going to deviate. Let's enjoy this one, up until about 7 PM on Friday night. This is the first time we've ever been #1, and given what I have seen over the years, I never thought I would see the day.

So, yes, let's smile, laugh, and take it all in. And then sweep Bowling Green this weekend.

Chad, you're a loyalist. And you're right. You deserve a week, at least, just one week, where you can say: "We're #1!"

Seriously, you can tell the grandkids about it.

This post says it perfectly. I tend to be overly-cautious about any of this too but I think we should recognize that no matter what happens after this week the team worked hard to be #1 and we should be proud of them. I love this team when its down and I love it when it succeeds. That said I am going to print the rankings and polls to save forever... :)

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

I read somewhere that said the team was predicted to finish 5th in the conference this year.

It was actually 9th, so this just goes to show how useless polls really are. All the matters is what happens out on the ice on any given night. I hope that the team takes this all in but regains their focus and composure this weekend and does what they need to do to win that CCHA title. Then they can go on from there...

You are obviously an old timer, as the maroon has disappeared; we are now "Eisler red" and gold.

But we are still NUMBER ONE !!!

GO DAWGS !!!!
Far from an old timer. Why did they change
Colors and is there a significance about the name? I have noticed how the maroon was slightly different

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

The "Eisler" name? That's our president. *shrug* Over the past few years we've gone to a more red than a darker version. I have no idea if that makes sense, but that's what I'm going with.

Who knows? To leave his mark? His wife didn't like the maroon? Maybe someone should ask him.

I heard it had something to do with trying to distinguish the Bulldogs from the Chippewas. Not really sure why since there is little overlap between the two besides geography.

I must say, I like the red and yellow sweaters, both home and away. I think they stick out of the college hockey color scheme a little bit more than maroon and gold.

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

I don't have a problem with the colors either way. I would like to see us stick with a sweater design for more than a few years.

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

Congrats from your old conference foes, UNO.

This is no small accomplishment when you consider how few teams have ever held a number 1 ranking.

Did I read somewhere it's only 19?

You have my permission to beat any team you play in the NCAA's as long they aren't from the WCHA.

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

I have also heard that it was due to the color scheme being very similar to Florida State University (FSU) and Ferris wanted to be...different. So it went to more of a red (tinge of crimson?) and yellow. Pretty big change, and quite honestly I liked the maroon and gold better, but what the heck do colors really mean? As long as the team wins, I could care less if they wore a different color every game.

The most recent.

Don't take my word on that, though. I have no idea what the truth is behind it. Just throwing out what I've heard. Quite a drastic difference, however.

Those are last year's roadies, not this year's. The front has "Ferris" written above "State."

The new sweaters are less cluttered.

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

Personally I liked the present color, make the jersey pop!! The previous color is too common to several other university!! Hopefully they will stick with the red for a while, meanwhile let's sweep Bowling Green and hopefully go far in the playoffs!!

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

Either one looks good. Although I like you guys less now that its not truly maroon :p

Yes, you are correct. Good call! Like I said, either way...doesn't really matter to me. I just have about 5 shirts that all have a varying blend of "red" in it.

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

I wondered where the hell you went.

Wow. That's all I have to say.

Here is a brief story on where I went. I got a new job in Grand Rapids which is an hour away and it really soaked up my time. In my spare time, I did some freelance photography work for the Griffins. I then lost interest in photography after doing it for 10 years and retired from it. I went back to school and will be getting my MBA here this year. I still went up and watched games from time to time, but with everything I had going on in my life, I really didn't have the time anymore to work for USCHO.

Time may have changed things, but it didn't change my love and loyalty for Bulldog Hockey. Its good to see Ferris up on top again and I am enjoying the ride. Going to FSU on Saturday to see one of the BGSU games. Heck, maybe they will clinch the CCHA regular season title with all luck. :)

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

The reason for the red color is that ferris was originally red and morphed into maroon the past 30/40years. The school colors are crimson and gold. The Maroon is what we were used to in modern times, but the original colors before ferris even had a thought about hockey was crimson and gold. So the red color is actually getting back to the original colors.

I'd rather have the first sweater in the lighter color.
