Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

Regional final in 2003. Lost to eventual champion Minnesota. No one was beating Minny that year, plain and simple.

Yeah, that '02-03 Bulldog team was loaded. While North Dakota was fading down the stretch that season, Ferris State destroyed the Sioux in the Regional Semifinal. It was probably one of the more disappointing games from the Sioux perspective as Ferris controlled nearly every facet of the game.

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

We had everything but goaltending. I'm sorry, but while he had a good year, I was never a big fan of Mike Brown. Now, if we had Pat Nagle, or even Taylor Nelson back then.....

Yeah, the Gophers highlighted that flaw fairly well. Either way, up until this season, the best Ferris State squad I can remember.

That Bulldog team in 02-03 was a good 1-2 line team. Kunitz, Nesbitt, and League were the line that we rode all the way to that game against Minnesota. When Kunitz got hurt in that Minnesota game, and Brown let in 3 goals in the first 5 minutes, that game was over. Watching the Bulldogs team this year is a big change over where we were back on 02-03. They don't have a top line scorer like Kunitz, but they have balanced scoring through all 4 lines which is huge. I like the way Nelson looks out there.

Will this Bulldogs team do better than the 02-03 team in the CCHA playoffs and tournament or the NCAA tournament? That remains to be seen. As many teams have done throughout the years in the NCAA tournament, all you have to do is come in on a hot streak. MSU did that when they won the National Championship a few years ago. They were a bubble team that rode a hot goalie through 4 wins in the tournament.

So far though, I like the Bulldogs' chances.

Hey guys, maybe you can help me out about the pairwise ranking... I noticed that FSU dropped few spots after beating BG twice and Michigan gain few spots after sweep Northern Michigan, so if, that is BIG IF.. that Ferris does win both or tie Western Michigan that they will leap over Michigan, even if Michigan swept BG... any input from you guys would be greatly appericated, thanks!!

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

Schedule-wise for next year, I see you will (tentatively) be coming to Houston Field House for a series with RPI. I look forward to that one, and hopefully actually scoring a goal this time around. :p:)

At this point of the year, it all comes down to what the great late Al Davis said. "Just Win Baby!"

There is a lot that is going to change between now and the NCAA tournament. Right now, Ferris is 4th. Even if they sweep this weekend, they will still need to have a good showing in the playoffs and the CCHA tournament in order to get a top spot. Just as birmrg74 says...

Just win baby!

I will be at the game tonight at Western with my Bulldogs jersey on.

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

As splendid as the Bulldogs have been this year, they're 0 and 4 against the second and third place teams in the CCHA. It would be nice to get some valuable pointsthis weekend. I'm also looking forward to six college games on the tube tonight, including the Dawgs on FSN Detroit.

Go Dawgs!

Thanks to our friends in Bowling Green, regardless of the WMU finish, your 2011-12 CCHA regular season champion Ferris State Bulldogs!

CHAMPIONSHIP!

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

Since we have no score update, this will suffice.

That was a stupid penalty by Kirzinger in OT. He's lucky that's not a 5 for boarding or CFB.

EDIT: Never mind. That was a 5. Deservedly so.

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

Not thrilled losing Kirzinger, check from behind when they are prone like that is always going to be at least two. It's hard to win in Lawson, getting the tie is a solid result considering.

Now let's take care of them at home and go into the playoffs strong. Hell of a year Bulldogs!

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

Congratulations Bulldogs! From one Bulldog to another!

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

Well, the good news is this: it was a misconduct, not a DQ, so he's eligible for service tomorrow night.

There should be no less than 2,493 in attendance in Ewigleben tomorrow night to honor our CCHA champions. I'll be at a game here, so I can't be one of them.

Glad to hear he'll be available tomorrow.

Last I heard it already sold out (at least the student section had). I know where I'm going to be sitting. Never thought I'd see the day. Six years of games, and now the regular season is ours, and a national berth shouldn't be far behind.

Re: Ferris State University Hockey 2011-2012 - A New Lease On Life

Hopefully Oullette didn't **** up his leg on that SO attempt.

I've seen them both. I was in attendance at BG when we won the 2003 title. That one was sweeter, I must admit, since I had seen so much (bad) hockey over the years.

WMU wins the shootout. Fine. I hate the ****ing things anyway. A tie in the PWR eyes.
