Ferris State Hockey '10-11-Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the penalty box

Re: Ferris State Hockey '10-11-Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the penalty

Quick story. Our sophomore year (93-94) Blaine Lacher was in goal for Lake State. He got run over on a play at the net and didn't get up. The back-up goaltender's last name was Sass. We spent the remainder of the weekend entertaining ourselves with the chant of "SASS! SASS! TAKES IT IN THE ASS!" It was just about the only thing we had to keep our attention that weekend, as LSSU handed us our lunch both nights.

I remember a UAF goalie giving the double bird in '96(?) and a "Fosters: Australian for Queer" sign when those ads were on TV and Western had a goalie by that name.

Re: Ferris State Hockey '10-11-Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the penalty

They tried getting us to change the "*******" part to "moron," at any game with people it doesn't work. The last series though, it turned into "Thank you, (quiet grumbles)"

For know your role, when their goalie goes behind the net to play the puck, it's "Know Your Role, Stay In Your Hole, b****!" Which has been one they've been trying to kill all year. There was a half-movement from some to change it to "Stay in your hole, Sieve!" which leads to it sounding like "Sitch" on most nights.

If they're going after that one, you're in bigger trouble than I thought.

Of course, the thing that will make them take notice is money. If people don't renew season tickets, that might get their attention. I remember years where the attendance of the UAH games this weekend was the norm. But they just don't get it.

You're on to something here, but I don't quite think you're looking in the right place. This popped into my head on the way home this evening. You don't go after ticketholders. You go after sponsors, especially those that do a good chunk of business with the student body. Someone is buying those ads on the boards. Some businesses are spending good advertising dollars on the program, and are quite happy to see students walk into their stores and restaurants. It's time to have a talk with them, and remind them that while students are very happy to visit their establishments, students can also vote with their wallets, too.

Again, it's up to the students and their resolve to do something. This battle can be won.

I'll see what happens and what I can do for the Notre Dame series. Indifference is the weapon of choice for the majority of the students there though, sadly. I'm not sure the majority of the people who go (the non-diehards) really care one way or another, I imagine most of them don't know what it used to be, or care.

And a lot of the people who've been around are going to be gone very shortly.

Nice. I've not watched one of these (don't really care about FSU vs. anyone else...), but you guys do a nice job. My posse is coming Saturday...and you're right. I hate coming into your rink! :o;):D

Re: Ferris State Hockey '10-11-Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the penalty

Sounds like Redmond is possibly "out for awhile", according to coach Daniels. Not good.

Re: Ferris State Hockey '10-11-Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the penalty

That's big trouble for us. Even more reason to cement nothing worse than 5th place, so that he can get the week to help get right.

He was on crutches during the game.

It's a game of periods. Ferris had a lot of good chances in the 1st, sucked the 2nd, and looked respectable in the 3rd. I expected us to look dead, I was pleasantly surprised. Hopefully we can nab one tomorrow. Luckily, we got some help, Western lost, and Lake State/Northern each tied to a bottomfeeder.

As for the student section, it's a lost cause, people are scared and complacent. "Know Your Role" happened once, and people were getting tossed for the *sshole part of drop it. Really sad.

Re: Ferris State Hockey '10-11-Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the penalty

Beat Notre Dame tomorrow, root like hell for Michigan, and then drag race WMU to the finish, knowing that you have the tiebreaker based on conference wins.

As for the student section, you know what you have to do to save it. Otherwise, it's good as gone.

Re: Ferris State Hockey '10-11-Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the penalty

Let me say this, for anyone else who is reading:

When you try to control a student section ........you lose the student section.
When you don't have a student section...........you lose the support of the students
When you don't have the support of the students..........you lose the program.

Remember that.

Re: Ferris State Hockey '10-11-Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the penalty

Notre Dame is a lot like Pittsburgh. They're good and it's pretty hockey, but you get sick of the chicken**** diving and whatnot behind the play.

Re: Ferris State Hockey '10-11-Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the penalty

Who was the moron in Columbus that thought it would be a good idea to have Ferris in on Thursday and Friday nights??

Re: Ferris State Hockey '10-11-Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the penalty

Same thing as always with this team, never good for 3 periods at a time.

This team could end up finishing tied for 8th place. Or end up finishing 4th. Interesting weekend coming up. Ohio State is only a win behind us in the standings, they are delightfully average too, so it's not as much of a given that we get two from them as I hoped. Notre Dame didn't take us seriously on Saturday, they started their backup goalie (84% save percentage) and they still owned us.

This is a very meh team. Defensive injuries and Nagle falling a bit back to earth is the teams' demise, the offense isn't going to win any games.

As far as getting the 4 (or even 5), luckily, Northern and Western play Michigan and Notre Dame. I hope UM/ND still go full out fighting for the #1, but the difference between the #1 and #2 in conference is pretty negligible, so I wouldn't be shocked if they rest some players.

Alaska's done in CCHA play with 38, the same as us, we can't do worse than them. Lake State is 1 back, they play Miami, but Miami has the #3 guaranteed, so once again, they may rest some people.

Ferris HAS to sweep OSU. Absolutely has to. Otherwise were playing the first round. I'm not scared of Bowling Green, but if we get the #7, even as bad as they've been, I do NOT want to face State.

Re: Ferris State Hockey '10-11-Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the penalty

As someone said in another thread, Miami is #12 in the PWR. No way on God's green earth they're sitting back this weekend. Notre Dame and Michigan both need to get some more hay in the barn before they're assured tourney bids as well.

We have the tiebreaker over both Alaska and WMU if we end up tied. We need 1 net win more than whatever WMU does next weekend and we will earn the #5 seed and a 1st round bye, regardless of what anyone else does.

Worst case scenario is the #8 seed, a first round playoff series with Alaska, and then a trip to the regular season conference champions in the 2nd round for a trip to the Joe. I don't really want to be in the #7 spot and draw MSU, either.

Not that it is any consolation but I think the game last night was a whole lot closer than the final indicated.

Jackson has been itching to put a little pressure on Mike Johnson by playing our second goalie so we knew Summerhays was likely to get starts coming down the stretch (notwithstanding what I had posted on our thread about our likely starter in net last night). Summerhays has been inconsistent, but trust me, starting him didn't mean Notre Dame took Ferris anything less than seriously. Ferris can force teams to get away from their game plan and I think the very reason we came out of Big Rapids with two wins was because we DID take you guys seriously.

Should be an interesting finish to the season.

The same moron that scheduled their senior weekend against LSSU this past weekend.

Beats me. OSU's athletic department isn't shy about bumping the hockey team out of the arena for more "important" events such as basketball or concerts and even high school wrestling but unless I'm mistaken nothing else is showing on the calendar that would prevent a Saturday game. Personally I feel it gyps our friends from Ferris who would want to see both games but can't take two weekdays off to make it down. The place will be almost empty Thursday (not like it isn't already).

Was planning a weekend down there myself, but I'll only be able to catch one game. I didn't realize it was a Thursday/Friday series until a few weeks ago. Oh well. Try to make the most of my time down there. Hopefully the boys can pull off a win Friday and make the trip more worth it!

Yep, that is me and a couple friends, "road trip" you know. Thanks Ohio State Hockey for ruining my 'weekend' trip!!!!
