Fear Not America, Janet Napolitano Is On The Job

Re: Fear Not America, Janet Napolitano Is On The Job

The idea that we can stop any and all attacks against the US (or even in the narrower scope of Aviation Security) is at odds with the very nature of the system - the whole reason for it to exist - travel - by nature introduces huge vulnerabilities to the system.

Hopefully nobody is saying we could stop them all...stopping every conceivable attack is impossible...stopping some/any, or at least the most obvious, is what they try to do every day.

As they say, if somebody wants to break into your house, they will...that doesn't mean you don't lock your doors and windows and stop newpaper delivery while you are away. When you learn the robbers look for lights always on, you get timers. As our intelligence provides more insight into what terrorists might be trying, the rules/focus will likely change. They don't advertise so the risk of a new tactic is always there.

They tried to blow up the WTC from the parking garage and failed..we put in a bunch of barriers and rules so they fly a plane into it...who knows what the crazies are thinking up next...perhaps filling Underdog with something and blowing him up during the Macy's parade.

Although, I do hear our efforts have reduced the al qaeda goose training program.

Re: Fear Not America, Janet Napolitano Is On The Job

I'm sure someone (DOJ, Michigan ACLU) had him "lawyered up" before the hatch on the aircraft was opened in Detroit.

He doesn't have to, and won't, say squat. And his attorneys will tell him that continually.

You mean those bastards may have followed the Constitution and advised him of his right to legal counsel, and said legal counsel may tell him of his 5th Amendment rights?

It's just a goddamed piece of paper for Cripes' sake!

Sicatoka wasn't criticizing the system, but rather commenting on the probability (or lack thereof) that this guy will sing.

Slap Shot understands the point of my post: This guy will not sing because he does not have to under the way the rules are interpreted and applied today.

Whether or not he should be given Constitutional rights when he's not a US citizen is a whole other conversation for another time and place.

If he's here illegally (seems to be a passport question), I say we put him and his booby-trapped undapantz on the first plane out of Detroit. Here's hoping that plane is headed for Beijing. I wonder what sort of lawyer and handling he'll get there. ;)

This is where the prosecutor plays "Let's Make a Deal" and gets him to sing.

Exactly. The guy already seems like a chatter, as he fingered the Yemeni connection pretty much when the plane landed from what I've read. Its real simple, life without the possibility of parole or something lesser than that if you give up the masterminds.

And if that doesn't work you apply a little electric shock therapy to his nuts.

Re: Fear Not America, Janet Napolitano Is On The Job

I have no qualms about that, you understand, but given the fire and all, there may not be much left to jolt. :D

At least we get to see his underwear plastered all over the TV. That's a pretty fitting way to end this decade.

Re: Fear Not America, Janet Napolitano Is On The Job

The system is broken. This guy, whose dad turns him in, makes it onto a plane without any screening. Meanwhile, this Army veteran converts to Islam and has his pilot career ruined :

http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2005/09/22/no_fly_action_takes_pilots_job/

(The saga continues)

The politicians need fewer "Brownie" points, less security theatre, and more enforcement. No need to make new rules when completely ****ing up the enforcement of current rules resulted in the screwups.

Europe as a whole has a nice rail network, not the size of a postage stamp, and pretty efficient, but the coddling of the airlines is a different story.

Re: Fear Not America, Janet Napolitano Is On The Job

You know what the response is going to be "If he isnt guilty he has nothing to worry about" and "we have sources that link him to blah blah blah" or the always popular "its a matter of national security we cannot release any information for fear it may be used by our enemies..."

Its all BS.

Worthless seeing as I don't celebrate it...

But hey, feel free to justify the government screwing over a citizen for no reason all in the name of making us all safer! I know I feel safe that he isnt allowed to fly!

Ah, you were talking about the dude in the earlier post. Sounds like a bureaucratic overreation (assuming the facts as are they appear in the article). My mistake.
