Old Rook and Ty Cobb, no one is saying that Oswego is better than Norwich. I'm not saying that, but when I made my post I was referring to a post made by one of your comrades about how Oswego has little depth. I will agree with Toto (I mean they have some pretty good songs like Rosanna and Hold the Line) on the fact that our top line is one of the best in D-3 (notice I said ONE of the best). He took it maybe to an extreme, but I know myself and most other Swiggo fans highly respect the Cadets and it will be a great game. This banter of handing the trophy over to Oswego is just getting to over mildly annoying to me and couldn't sit back anymore.

You do have a bunch of fans who are going to extremes to tell everyone that Oswego is just the most awesome team ever to play the game. It has been going on all season. I think that whichever 3 Norwich puts out as the #1 line will stand up to at least the nose of the vaunted Oswego first line.

An aside - counting points from a line is a silly exercise. When one forward on the line gets a goal, most likely the assists come from at least one, if not both of his line mates. If you want to compare offense on the part of lines, restrict yourself to counting goals.

Not to mention, 90% of the time, I consider second assists a useless stat. (And 10% of the time, I consider first assists a useless stat.)

Hockey assist stats are generally overinflated. Unlike lacrosse, which is the exact opposite because the rules for handing out assists are so restrictive.

Agreed, one excitable boy. I admire the enthusiasm but he has had his share of dust ups.
Utica has had several this year which is understandable considering their recent success.

Point taken OZFEST and OSU2010.

Actually my reason for echoing a remark about handing the trophy over to OSU is that in 2007 (I have a long memory) after OZ had convincingly beat NU on their way to OSU's well deserved NCAA tile —there were some unflattering "post-game" Forum remarks made about that Cadet team. I thought then--as I do now—they had cheapened what OSU had done in the playoffs. I was only reminded of that when I made my earlier remark--thinking, "here we go again."

Actually I find virtually every Forum fan shows wonderful respect for their opponents abiding by what Teddy Roosevelt once said, e.g. “It is not the critic who counts…The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood.

We need to focus on both these great teams with out beating them up—but let's get this game started while I still have “my entitlements.”

It's also the same guy who say that Oswego would crush everyone, then says the game is 50/50 all in the same sentence. He's ticked off pretty much everyone by now. :D

Please point out one instance where I said that Oswego would crush everyone. I challenge you to find one example. I pointed out some of the bright spots in Oswego's game, predicting where I think their win would come from if they do win. I called it 50/50 because Norwich also has bright spots in their game. Read back through my analysis of the statistics and you'll see I was being more than fair to both sides. I made my case for why I thought Oswego is able to win this game, that's all. I never said that they were guaranteed to or that they were far superior to every other team in the country. Don't put words in my mouth.

If we are going to restrict ourselves to counting goals, then Oswego's top line forwards still top Norwich's in goals 47-44 and that's with Whitelaw being out for 2 months. Maybe the difference isn't as big as in points, but it shouldn't be completely ignored.

Whichever 3 forwards Norwich puts in for their top line are going to have a tough challenge for themselves tomorrow. Can they do it? Sure. But it's not a foregone conclusion that they will. If they succeed in silencing Oswego's top line, they still have to worry about a host of potent players in Oswego's second, third, and fourth lines. Then again, Norwich has a lot of depth too.

EXACTLY. These two teams are as evenly matched as you can get. It's going to be a great game. We can brag about lines players coaches etc till we are blue in the mouth but the fact of the matter is these are two tremendous teams that are going to put on a show in a little more than 24 hours exhibiting D3 hockey at its finest.

With all the hype this semifinal is getting, I wouldn't be surprised if Utica-Eau Claire ended up being the "Instant Classic" of the weekend :D

This Laker fan bows down to the Cadets. They've been ranked ahead of us all year for a reason. It will require a rare-as hens-teeth perfect game from us to squeak past them. Looking forward to it.

For the sake of accuracy, Whitelaw was sidelined for about 3 weeks, not 2 months. He missed only 6 games from November 16 thru December 8th. Heck, Norwich had several guys who missed that much time (Cotnoir) which furter skews the "top line" argument. In an informal poll amongst 3 prominent coaches I talked to, 2 like Norwich by a tight score. The other likes Oswego "convincingly".

Cotnoir has missed seven games, Forkey eight games, Thomas was knocked out for a couple as well with an injury as well. :( All fine and dandy now. :)

This whole thing is extremely comical. The young men on the ice will decide this thing. ANYBODY getting all worked up over what a few over zealous fans say is quite pointless. I am surprised by some of the experienced posters getting caught up in this. So what if someone thinks their team is great. Some of these posters are the same ones that say the Laker fan base is too critical of the team, now some are guilty of some over weaning hubris. It reminds me of the Jay Cutler debate. He gets injured in a game tries to play, but cannot or is pulled & people say he has no heart. Then he gets in the face of a lineman and pushes him in the heat of the game and he is too passionate and went over the line. In the eyes of some media he will never do the right thing. I have come to the conclusion, in the eyes of some posters at least, some Oswego fans can post no right. We are ****ed if we do and also if we don't, so have fun people. Enjoy the debate, bash each other if you want but please spare me the righteousness and indignation. I have watched this for years the acrimony between Norwich & Oswego fans almost seems more bitter than Platty & Oswego. I have a lot of respect for most of the posters of these teams and I don't agree with the boastful posts.I have always liked the motto "you should act like you have been there before". I guess we will find out who is better tomorrow.
