ENOUGH about DUNNING...How about the GAME? Oswego v Norwich Friday @ 4pm

Re: ENOUGH about DUNNING...How about the GAME? Oswego v Norwich Friday @ 4pm

:rolleyes:Well, I guess we just better hand the trophy to Oswego, afterall, we all KNOW that Oswego has better players, better coaches, better goalies. And if the impossible happens, I'm sure it would be a fluke or a referee's decision.
I guess Utica & Plattsburgh must not have agreed since they each had two wins against the OZ. This game will boil down to who makes the least mistakes.

Re: ENOUGH about DUNNING...How about the GAME? Oswego v Norwich Friday @ 4pm

You cannot compare apples and oranges. It doesn't matter that Oswego has a couple of defensemen that have more point than Norwich's. There are four lines of forwards and three sets of D. The D is out there with ALL the lines at different times, not just the top Oswego line. I will say that Norwich's D is there for exactly that...Defense. Perhaps that's why the power play is mediocre this year as compared to past Norwich teams. Doesn't seem to be any real offensive minded defensemen (like McConney, Josepher).

Although Oswego's top line has an edge, I like Norwich's 2nd line thru 4th line a little better. It's probably a game where Ben Morgan or David Titanic scores the winner anyway.

Re: ENOUGH about DUNNING...How about the GAME? Oswego v Norwich Friday @ 4pm

Pick 3 forwards and 2 defensemen from any D3 team at all and show me if they have more points than Oswego's 1st line. Norwich's top 3 forwards and top 2 defensemen have a combined 127 points this season (I don't even know if they're on the same line). Oswego's top line has 166 points. And that's with Whitelaw being out for 2 months in the middle of the season. Oswego's top line crushes every other top line in d3 hockey. period.

Can you tell me Norwich's top 3 forwards going into this game?? Some of Norwich's top players have been injured during different points of the year so there production is down. I am fairly sure who is going to try and match up with Oswego' top line and it is worth the price of admission to see how that one unfolds.

I totally agree on the least mistakes part.

So let me get this straight. Plattsburgh beat Oswego twice (albeit close). Norwich beat Plattsburgh in Plattsburgh (close as well). Also, Norwich has been #1 or #2 in the coaches poll just about all year IIRC. But in the minds of some Norwich is the underdog. Odd. Very odd. Sounds like wishful thinking to me but.... whatever .... we'll know in a few days.

From what little I know about Oswego, they are very evenly matched with Norwich and it should be a great game.

Back in January as teams were all settling into their season, I thought Norwich was the favorite to win the national championship. I'm still sticking with that prediction.

Remember when Norwich SID was 14 or 15 and a bunch of RIT posters drove to horseheads, ny and decorated his lawn? Dinner on me on Saturday to the poster who decorates such a certain SIDs hotel door with Oswego colours!

Tongue in cheek, but if anyone were to take me up on the offer, a picture on here of such an event would make my day.

I dont think there is a underdog, but if there was it would be Oz,as you stated in your post so well, that said it should be a 1 goal game i would think...only 3 days left

January Norwich would likely wipe the ice with January Oswego, but this is March and both teams have changed significantly. Oswego is playing better than they have all year and definitely have what it takes to bring Norwich down. In the KRACH ratings, the two teams are practically even. In the last USCHO poll, both teams received 7 first place votes and their total points were very similar. One team has a better offense, the other a better defense. Both are very tough teams. Is there a favorite? I really don't think so. This game is 50/50 in my books.

Re: ENOUGH about DUNNING...How about the GAME? Oswego v Norwich Friday @ 4pm

I think the key to this game will be penalties. Norwich's power play is by far the weakest part of their game and could be a serious liability for them. They've let their opponents score first in 12 games this season and they could become frustrated if PP after PP yields no results. Oswego's power play, on the other hand, is deadly. Norwich typically doesn't take a lot of penalties, but if they do they'll give up the game.

Norwich also isn't used to facing a lot of shots, which they can't expect to hold true against Oswego. The most shots Norwich has faced all year in a game was 27 against Plattsburgh. Only in 12 games have they faced at least 20 shots. Oswego on the other hand has faced an average of 27 shots per game (Norwich's maximum). Only 4 games this season did they face less than 20, and they've faced more than 30 shots 9 times and over 40 shots in their win against Hobart.
The bad news for Norwich is that Oswego gets A LOT of shots. Oswego averages 38 shots per game, while Norwich only manages 30. Oswego's only gotten less than 30 shots in 6 games this season, while Norwich has failed to reach 30 shots 12 times.

So shots and penalties will tell the story of this game.
Maybe but one never knows. I believe Oswego had 18 shots on goal the night we played them in Dec. there. Defense was the key that night and we got the win. As for the Cards/Norwich game at home, again a very tight one defensively by the Cadets. I think that will be key for both teams in this game, just my opinion.

Oswego had 35 shots in the December game (to Platty's 26), I recall Cadieux being very good that night.

If I accomplish anything this weekend in Lake Placid, I hope to get a chance to meet you, sir. Your posts are certainly enjoyable to read much of the time ;)
My pleasure - I assume someone will organize a suitable USCHO meet-up before the game Friday - I will make my presence known...

Be very careful he has a large security force of armed Cadets.

++++1 I couldn't agree more. Actually, after reading all the stats and accolades about Oswego, I e-mailed McShane. I recommended that (1.) Oswego either be disqualified for just having too much talent but to be immediately moved to the Div.I's Frozen Four where they might find a more worth game that matches their superiority or (2.) at the very least NU should play as many underclassmen as possible--so they can watch and learn from OSU--while getting some valuable playoff experience for next year.

Me? Well since I already know the outcome, I am not even going to watch the game.

Re: ENOUGH about DUNNING...How about the GAME? Oswego v Norwich Friday @ 4pm

Well, I'm going to watch the game, just so I don't have to play in our Member-Member golf tournament. I'll be hoping for the whistle blowers to help us win over the juggernaut we're facing.

Re: ENOUGH about DUNNING...How about the GAME? Oswego v Norwich Friday @ 4pm

Old Rook and Ty Cobb, no one is saying that Oswego is better than Norwich. I'm not saying that, but when I made my post I was referring to a post made by one of your comrades about how Oswego has little depth. I will agree with Toto (I mean they have some pretty good songs like Rosanna and Hold the Line) on the fact that our top line is one of the best in D-3 (notice I said ONE of the best). He took it maybe to an extreme, but I know myself and most other Swiggo fans highly respect the Cadets and it will be a great game. This banter of handing the trophy over to Oswego is just getting to over mildly annoying to me and couldn't sit back anymore.

Whitelaw to Receive SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence

OSWEGO, N.Y. - Oswego State senior men's ice hockey captain Jon Whitelaw has been selected as one of five SUNY Oswego students to receive the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence. Whitelaw will receive the award, which is the highest student recognition handed out through the SUNY system, in ceremonies April 4 at Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany.

Whitelaw, a 2012 Second Team East All-American, has received several top awards for combining superior academics and athletics, including the SUNY Athletic Conference's Dr. Sam Molnar Award, the SUNY Chancellor's Scholar-Athlete Award and SUNYAC All-Academic team membership. The 2010 SUNYAC Rookie of the Year presented on the importance of player-referee understanding at the USA Hockey Referee Convention, participated with five teammates in a wheelchair basketball tournament for Move Along Inc., spent summers at home in Huntsville, Ontario, teaching hockey fundamentals to children and served as a mock trial guest judge at Nottingham High School in Syracuse, where he student teaches.
Whitelaw ideally “would like to be fortunate enough to pursue possible opportunities with hockey that would allow me to travel and see other parts of the world,” he said. “Ultimately, regardless of where I end up after Oswego, it is my goal to continue my education and pursue a career in teaching.”

Whitelaw, who is fifth on the team in scoring this season with 30 points on 10 goals and 20 assists in 22 games, leads the Lakers this weekend when they face Norwich on Friday un the Frozen Four at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid at 4 p.m.

Whitelaw is the first Oswego State student-athlete to receive the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence since 2011 when women's swimming and diving student-athlete Nikki Dean.
