Elmira Soaring Eagles 2010

Re: Elmira Soaring Eagles 2010

Two national championships and a runner up in four years at Plattsburgh....hmmm...you do the math...knob :p

Yup...and when ever I go up to Edmonton they still talk about Gretzky...:)

Hang onto the memories Seymore...savour them.

Only sorry I wasn't able to duke it out with you in your heyday however looks as though you still got a little fire in the belly...you knob :P

Now let's drop the puck...24 hours to game time.

Re: Elmira Soaring Eagles 2010

I see that OnMAA is trying to turn you into a legend. Ah yes the good olde days....Statsy etal. Where are they all now? I especially miss good olde "Just A Spoke In The Wheel!" He didn't realize that you needed marks to get your kid into a school. "Marks, smarks... my kids an Areo don't you know."

Ah yes the good olde days.

The Prof.

Prof, you were a legend in your own ways. Your College selection and education tips were a priceless advice for those like me who followed in your footsteps. Helped my D's land in nice places.

Now "Spoke"...There is a legend for the ages. An opinion he had. His D was actually playing on a GTA IAA team this fall. I met JAD, our sunshine boy a few times up in the Nations Capital. Dice is still going at the OW all the way from the Prairies.

BTW...Sum things don't change. Again a few examples this year of players that don't have the marks to get in. Overall though, I get the feeling most are getting smarter about it.

Re: Elmira Soaring Eagles 2010

Amherst takes care of business 3-1 vs Elmira in the re-match. Sweet.

I'll be the first one to give credit, where credit is due and I thought Amherst was the better team on this night.

Having said that I've seen two posts on the D3 score update thread by people that were actualy at the game that suggests the reffing was less than stellar. Apparently even missing an EC goal in the second period.

My point is....is this the best crew they can send out for a 1/2 matchup? Out of position, can't keep up with the play, inconsistent calls/non calls on both teams, officials laughing and chatting at the blue line during play.

I would have expected their # 1 crew for a # 1 game....sure hope that wasn't the best they have.

Re: Elmira Soaring Eagles 2010

I'm still baffled by the fact that Elmira was held to 15 SOG. 5 if you take away the 2nd period. It's the second time in less than a week that Amherst has held a top-caliber team to 15 or less shots. Anyone at the game have any insight?

I thought Amherst was the better team last night. The margin in most of the games between top teams is so thin that it is a shame the officiating is so poor. I was told the woman ref had been a DI player and expected less of the same old same old. I felt it so inconsistent to let so much go uncalled all game (as one Elmira parent expressed it the Soaring Eagles do have a bit of an "edge" to their play) and then whistle Dennett for hooking in a neutral zone scrum on the boards with 2:17 to play in a 1 goal game. Zukas is then called for checking on what looked to be a dive on the boards in back of the Amherst net on a play that was way less violent than many which resulted in non-calls all evening, but, blown at this point in the action, created the 6x3 skater situation. I would hope for consistency and a reluctance to make calls that have such an obvious potential to directly alter the outcome. The players work long and hard to do something they love, and deserve much better. We fans, parents and coaches are letting them down by not demanding better, more professional officiating!

Re: Elmira Soaring Eagles 2010

Here is a repost of a post I placed on a different thread, but it belongs here also!

I was at the game last night. While definately "outplayed", I can't say that Amherst dominated EC.

Without the empty-netter with 2 seconds left on the clock, it was a one point game.

The refs missed a goal for EC in the second period while they were way out of position. The puck was put on net on the goalie's right post. The puck hit the goalie in the thigh pad and fell to the ice just across the line. As the goalie moved forward the puck immediately came out and back into play. The goal judge was screened by the goalie's body. The female ref was on the end line on the goalie's left side and was screened. The other refs were both at the blue line standing next to each other chatting about God knows what!

I'm definately not saying that was what cost the Soaring Eagles the game. Amherst outplayed and outhustled EC all night. EC was lucky to keep it that close.

The refs in this game were out of position all night. Poor calls both ways. Icing calls when there shouldn't have been and non-calls when there should have been. I have never bashed the refs on this forum after a loss, but if they actually cash the check from this game it will be considered fraud.

Does anyone have an email address that they can share where we can all fire off emails about the officiating? We can all complain on this site, but until the NCAA hears consistently what we have witnessed and feel, they may not know the pain we feel watching some of these hacks, as they have a negative impact on the game. The girls play way to hard and give of themselves, almost all year round with off ice training, to have the outcome of a game determined by either a crappy call, or no call at all.

I'm down with that cause I wouldn't want anyone to think it was just an "Elmira 2010" thing.

Gawd only knows the retributuion one (or a team) could receive if they were deemed by whoever is responsible for this officiating that it was only an Elmira problem.

If you think I'm being paranoid just ask Alex Burrows or Stephane Auger....

Re: Elmira Soaring Eagles 2010

On another note...and this is only constructive criticism but whoever is responsible for playing the music at EC home games...get with the program.

It sounded like someone was picking a cat up with a pair of plyers....

I take it there was no brass bonanza then eh?

I believe the hatted (that's not a mis-spelling for hated) coach for Amherst was none too pleased either. There was an inadvertent high stick that nearly decapitated #4? and she collapsed on the bench. He called the official over to see her being attended to on the floor of the bench.

I think that inadvertent high stick actually struck #7 Alyssa Chwick. While this incident may have been inadvertent, a player is still responsible for her stick. If you follow play away from the puck, the Soaring Eagles always have their hands up and you can observe a lot of stick work on their part. When this type of play is allowed to pass, and then Amherst is whistled for what I can see as incidental contact (Zukas checking) and players tangled in a scrum on the boards (Dennett hooking) you wonder what the refs are thinking?

Re: Elmira Soaring Eagles 2010

The refs did not win or lose the game for either team last night. Amherst was last night the better of the two teams and deserved the win. The score would probably have been the same without the refs being there(they were physically there but their minds were somewhere else). What really is a shame is their (refs) indifference to the game. There was no consistency to their calls (when made) for either side. The highlight of their night was when the puck was in the Elmira end and a player was taken down
behind the net - no call was made because all three of them were at the blue line and two of them were standing together and appeared to be talking
to one another. A game of this importance deserves better !!!!!!!!!
