Elmira College Soaring Eagles 2010-2011 Season Thread

Wheel of MisFortune

Wheel of MisFortune

Outshoot opponents 84 - 51 over two games, and earn a tie!? Morikawa dressed as a defender last night!? Mr Sajak, I'll take a G and a D.

Wonder of that Hince kid that Prez likes so much still has any eligibility remaining?

Pathetic. That is all I have to say about the last two weeks of Elmira's season.

Were you at the game today?

What I saw today (granted, it was my only EC game so far):
-As soon as I saw it was Mike St. Louis and Chris Cross, I knew it would be a rough day
-Saul was right not to play Milne until now. 3 goals on 6 shots, at least 2 (if not all 3) were softies.
-HORRIBLE first period. Couldn't get the breakout they wanted, sometimes couldn't get it out of their zone, and when they did they couldn't get anything going in the offensive zone. 2-5 SOGs in the first tells a story...
-After Bolin went in, he played fairly solid. BUT... the 4th was his fault. Played the puck right onto a Skidmore stick, found himself in the crease facing into the net, away from the shot... it was ugly...
-In the 2nd and 3rd, offense was a bit better. 37 shots in 2 periods.
-That said, throughout the game there was almost 0 on-ice communication between the boys in purple, ESPECIALLY in the offensive end.
-The goal in the last period of the 2nd should have switched momentum in EC's favor, but they did nothing with it and Skidmore eventually capitalized

St. Louis and Cross... what a joke. The net came off in the 2nd, the players were shouting that the net was off, Cross skated over and put the net back in place and told them to play on... WHAT?!?! Then in the 3rd, St. Louis called Schrank when an Skidmore player went down. Schrank clearly played the puck with his stick, and the skidmore player simply skated into the stick. St. Louis began to signal tripping, thought better of it, and changed the call to interference. BS if I've ever seen it.

By the way, Skidmore actually scored 5 (and should have had 6 or 7... hit the post on an empty net twice). The shot beat everybody, including Bolin, and hit the back of the netting. In by a mile. Bolin turned around to pick it up and hand it to St. Louis, and then St. Louis blew the whistle (after all, the goalie had it in his glove) and pointed at the faceoff dot. Saddest part is, St. Louis had the BEST view in the building of the fact that the puck was clearly in the net. So, when evaluating the performance of the Soaring Eagles, please take into consideration the fact that this game was truthfully a 5-4 loss, not 4-2.

A loss is a loss, even to a lower level team. EC has major issues in goal an it will cost them an NCAA berth this year. I have come to accept the fact that EC will be lucky to end this season @ 500 or higher. We'll see how bad it gets next Saturday vs Neuman, I'm betting it won't be a 1 goal game this time.

The clock is ticking, but there's still time...

The clock is ticking, but there's still time...

Travel did not allow us to catch today’s game, so not much to say about it other than I am not surprised to see Milne finally got his shot. Now is a good time for him to see some ice time, even if it was short-lived.

On Saturday’s game, it was a good showing on Elmira’s part, but came-away with only 1 point. The first USM goal was one of those goals that happens so quick, it gets replayed in slow motion over and over in your head. Joy was skating backwards parallel to the blue line, shadowed by an Elmira defender, and got-off a bullet that slipped between a kneeling MacDonald’s right pad and the post. A quality goal. However the next goal was questionable at-best, allowed after a 2-3 minute discussion by the officials. The puck was ‘slam-dunked’ down and off MacDonald’s back with a stick well above the cross bar. An ugly “goal”. Not much MacDonald could have done about that one, but not sure why it was allowed. Game-on...

The shot differential was in Elmira’s favor (officially 47-31). But even with that stat, USM defense stopped a poo-load of shots that never made it to the crease. They clogged-up the middle very well, allowing VERY few quality scoring chances.

On the goaltending issue, I will say this... there is one man recruited just a few short years ago whom I am very interested to see what he would bring to the table. Saturday’s tie as opposed to a win is NOT on the head of MacDonald. EC had their chances to add to the 3 goals netted in that game, but Torris (and USM as a whole) played well, and were able to counter the pressure from Elmira. As for the shootout... in a word, “oy”.

Whatever is needed to right this ship, it is required NOW. This team cannot afford many (if any) more blemishes on their record, and the road does not get any easier going forward. But if one is willing to be extremely optimistic, there was a Pool B team not too long ago that was 5-4-1 at this point of the season. They ended-up having a pretty good year.

Get it together gents. Losses such as those experienced this weekend can either be demoralizing, or motivating. Ultimately, you decide.

I don't think Ross McKinnon is transfering anytime soon :o

pulse is pretty weak right now. But, a good chance to get things going in the right direction this weekend with a road game at Fredonia and then back home to play Neumann on Saturday. A sweep could go a long way towards salvaging this season before it spirals out of control.

Really "lower level teams?" Why take shots at programs that beat (or tie Elmira) with with half the resources? Oh that's right, the entilement, the same reason the Sore Eagles were ranked going into that tournament.

Platty has a good record right now too

Re: Elmira College Soaring Eagles 2010-2011 Season Thread

It was the defense that led to a few of Fredonia's goals last night. The defense broke down and led to a 3-1 goal for Fredonia, and also a short-handed goal. The defense needs to step it up.

Neumann! @ Elmira

Neumann! @ Elmira

At the 1/3 point of the season, I was sure that this would be another season where 1 or 2 teams dominate each conference ... I could not have been more wrong. This is a season where parity dominates, and EC is a middle of the pack team. To the game ...
 • Only 300 fans at the anthem, not a single student. Shameful!
 • Center ice belonged to Neumann for most of the game
 • Until the EC goal at the end of the second, Neumann was pretty much dominating. EC would expend all of a line's energy simply to clear its own zone.
 • Took EC 5 periods to solve MacKinnon
 • The two Neumann goals were thrown through traffic and screens; McDonald saw neither
 • Other than Willer's line, there wasn't a whole lot of energy emanating from Elmira through two periods
 • During the third, the D-line saw much more ice time, and the fresh legs were noticeable. Neumann ran out of gas.
 • The ECAC/W won't get a NCAA bid this year.
Willer - Vallaincort - Sanders
Herold - Shrank - Acorn
Morikawa - Strale - Consorti
Morisette - Kourtoglou - Archambault

Some unhappy Neumannites at game's end. Frankly, I don't think the officiating was that bad. Perhaps it was the embarrassment factor
Code:
NEU-8 Jeremy Gates (10-Misconduct)	19:08
NEU-9 Sean Bianchini (10-Misconduct)	19:08
NEU-10 Steve Gervais (2-Slashing)	20:00
NEU-11 Steve Gervais (10-Game Disqualification)	20:00

Elmira get another home-ice win...

Elmira get another home-ice win...

...and “The Mule” was in the house, bringing EC’s record with his presence in the post-RIT era above .500. So Prez will now take his “Juju”, roll it up into a tight little wad, and... well, say no more. :D Although I gotta say, he was uncharacteristically quiet in the stands tonight. C’mon Tom, it’s OK to be vocal for Elmira now... at least until they go DI (which with my history, you know it’s my destiny).

Another one of those “character wins” for the Eagles tonight. Now if they can only stop spotting quality teams multiple goals early-on, I can stop downing multiple beverages between periods. MacDonald earned that win – he worked hard for it in the latter stages of the game. Newmann had their way with Elmira early. Ugly, ugly 1st period for EC... well-played by Neumann. The ice in the second period was still tipped towards the Elmira end, but leveled-out late in that period, and stayed level through the rest of the contest.

Refs Baker and Jones need a hug. In addition to the late-game festivities elbo mentioned, two mid-game misconducts were also handed-out tonight – One to Vaillancourt (Elm) and one to Foster (Neu). Did these refs blow the game? - No. But guys, grow a pair and take some critique when it comes your way. It’s not all about you.

Even more evidence that the program has lost traction, attendance total was probably half of the 875 reported in the boxscore, not a single student showed, and, for the first time in my memory, the local paper didn't bother sending a reporter to the game.

never happen. plus there is no room there.
I haven’t been back in a while so I cant comment on attendance. But if Neumann can pack the place with students then EC can. But the NU rink is a lot closer than the Domes to campus.
