Re: Elmira College Soaring Eagles 2010-2011 Season Thread
Pathetic. That is all I have to say about the last two weeks of Elmira's season.
Were you at the game today?
What I saw today (granted, it was my only EC game so far):
-As soon as I saw it was Mike St. Louis and Chris Cross, I knew it would be a rough day
-Saul was right not to play Milne until now. 3 goals on 6 shots, at least 2 (if not all 3) were softies.
-HORRIBLE first period. Couldn't get the breakout they wanted, sometimes couldn't get it out of their zone, and when they did they couldn't get anything going in the offensive zone. 2-5 SOGs in the first tells a story...
-After Bolin went in, he played fairly solid. BUT... the 4th was his fault. Played the puck right onto a Skidmore stick, found himself in the crease facing into the net, away from the shot... it was ugly...
-In the 2nd and 3rd, offense was a bit better. 37 shots in 2 periods.
-That said, throughout the game there was almost 0 on-ice communication between the boys in purple, ESPECIALLY in the offensive end.
-The goal in the last period of the 2nd should have switched momentum in EC's favor, but they did nothing with it and Skidmore eventually capitalized
St. Louis and Cross... what a joke. The net came off in the 2nd, the players were shouting that the net was off, Cross skated over and put the net back in place and told them to play on... WHAT?!?! Then in the 3rd, St. Louis called Schrank when an Skidmore player went down. Schrank
clearly played the puck with his stick, and the skidmore player simply skated into the stick. St. Louis began to signal tripping, thought better of it, and changed the call to interference. BS if I've ever seen it.
By the way, Skidmore actually scored 5 (and should have had 6 or 7... hit the post on an empty net twice). The shot beat everybody, including Bolin, and hit the back of the netting. In by a mile. Bolin turned around to pick it up and hand it to St. Louis, and then St. Louis blew the whistle (after all, the goalie had it in his glove) and pointed at the faceoff dot. Saddest part is, St. Louis had the BEST view in the building of the fact that the puck was
clearly in the net. So, when evaluating the performance of the Soaring Eagles, please take into consideration the fact that this game was truthfully a 5-4 loss, not 4-2.
