Elmira College 2011-2012

Re: Elmira College 2011-2012

Great game! Had to leave before end but EC is fast. OT win!! Coach has them playing great and strong defense. Won't list lines or forecheck out of courtesy to coach, don't want to give away :)
Got a chance to talk to coach Saul and Coach Jackson along with Trainer Dave. Was great catching up with them. Instant memories.
Got my "wounded warrior" sweatshirt but it's odd there is an "H" on the front for hockey and not "EC". Ha!
Will end with saying how proud I am to have been a part of EC hockey and what a good job coach is doing. EC is a premier program with strong tradition.
I'll post pics on Monday

It's because of players like you that makes it that. Glad you made tha game and got to meet up with Coach, looking forward to those pics.
Now to give Fredonia another lesson in hockey;)

FSU v Elmira

FSU v Elmira

- Disappointing crowd of only 6 or 700.
- Vallaincort not on the ice so the lines were a bit jumbled.
- EC not in synch ... the weak side skater seemed to always be a step slow in getting to the net. Half a dozen rebounds came directly through the ice where the skater usually is on a rush
- Two refs I've never seen before nor would ever like to see again - Shoemaker and Zilliox. First called nothing, then everything, then nothing!?*
- FSU has 15 skaters listed at taller than 6' and 8 from Alberta.

A tale of three different periods:
1) FSU played a trap when changing lines against which EC would dump and chase. Other times played 1-2-2 against which EC would skate the puck in. FSU really clogged up the front of the goal, at times with 4 guys below their own goal line on the backcheck. EC would fire away from outside, but without any success.
2) EC finally got a couple to go in from the Blue line using some nice 2-man screens in front of the net, a bad FSU line change and a shorty which brought out the FSU goon tactics
3) FSU began baiting, talking trash and taking cheap shots at every opportunity and the game devolved into a mayhem.

If you can't talk with your stick and skates, you use your mouth.

The loss of Lee and possibly Gagne could be an issue next game.
Nice to see Lee take on two goons from FSU and end up on top :-)

Interesting how these names didn’t make it to the stat sheet, at least not in the collegehockeystats info. It’s as if they were never there, which is a fairly accurate reflection of how the game went for a majority of the time.

There was some post-game discussion regarding how Lee received a DQ on a face mask penalty, as it was questioned if that infraction carries a DQ penalty. Come to find-out, it does, if the cage is grasped, pulled, or twisted with “…excessive roughness”. However, there is no ambiguity when it comes to fighting, which as we know all results in a DQ without question. So I wonder how FSU’s Edens gets a 5-min for fighting, and a 10-min <I><U>misconduct</U></I> (<U>no</U> DQ).

FRE-4 Brad Nunn (2-Cross-Checking) 19:17
FRE-5 Brad Nunn (5-FACEMASK) 19:17
FRE-6 Brad Nunn (10-Game Disqualification) 19:17
FRE-7 Ryan Edens (5-Fighting) 19:17
FRE-8 Ryan Edens (10-Game Misconduct) 19:17
ELM-6 Rick Acorn (5-High-Sticking) 19:17
ELM-7 Martin Lee (2-Roughing) 19:17
ELM-8 Martin Lee (5-FACEMASK) 19:17
ELM-9 Martin Lee (10-Game Disqualification) 19:17

Re: Elmira College 2011-2012

Well, I watched the game last night with some old freinds and here is what I saw, which was a common problem in college hockey these days. There was two players at center ice cross checking each other after the whistle with about 10 minutes to play in the third of a 3 goal game. It was right infront of the back end ref and he called nothing. It was a perfect time to call cross checks and send a message to the players to watch it.

When it all I hit the fan, I thought the offcials did an ok job till the end, as Dave pointed out yes face masking does bring a DQ. However I think most Elmira fans don't have much to be mad at outside of the refs letting it get out of control. I think Elmira really got away with one on the Dylan Herold major. He should have received a DQ it was a cheap shot and intent to injury really lucky he only got a misconduct. And it was an absolute joke that the best the ref could do was toss a guy out for 18 seconds of a game that was decided. It was yet another miss opportunity for officials in this area to send the correct message that a hit like that in garbage time is not acceptable. I think all the rest of last minute penalties were called correctly, and not trying to beat up on EC, but I think Herold let his emotions get the best of him and really got away with one. I know it could have been a result of the injury that happen in the corner to an Elmira player, which I did not see what happen. But still it was clear head hunting and with all the talk about head shots.....

I think the fighting penalty is a miss print in the box score, I am pretty sure that fighting carries an automatic DQ, there is no option for a miss conduct...

Thanks to my Elmira hosts though, always a good time now when I stop by the domes...

Even though not an official DQ, if these players guilty of major penalties played for Plattsburgh, they would miss a game!

Re: Elmira College 2011-2012

Just like we ripping Castleton, the coaches better send a message..

Re: Elmira College 2011-2012

You mean when people aren't trying to steal your ridiculously oversized stuffed Tiger? ;)

I miss those days, I should bring "Little Richie" back to the domes for a trip down memory lane. Would you go running with him Derek, I think it would be priceless!!!!

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Its been awhile since a D-III post made me laugh that hard....

Can I just say honestly, despite all that has been said, boys will be boys, get over it and get on to the next game...

It’s not me, it’s us. The fans and the hockey community make up a big part of the EC program.
The fans were actually the deciding factor for me selecting EC. Good thing too because one of my top 3 school to pick from ended their program not long after my EC commitment.

Sounds like the Fredonia game got a little out of hand. I didn’t see any chippy play from EC at the EC/NU game but Meredith teams are known for their "aggressive" play after the whistle.
Having said that based on Toms post sounds like EC gave some lumber

EC doesn't go "Head Hunting" just standing up for themselves and their teammates. Lee had two players on him, took care of both. If the Refs won't take care of it...................

Re: Elmira College 2011-2012

Hey what happen to the EC Player who got hurt in the corner by the booster club room. I did not see the hit, how bad did he get his bell rung..... I know doc, there is no such thing as a bell ringer anymore....
