Elmira College 2011-2012

Re: EC v M'bury

Re: EC v M'bury

Great recap! I will say this: One of Middlebury's goals (the second, I think?) was what I would qualify as a "gaffe". From my spot behind that goal, what I saw was the shot come in, MacDonald blocked it, but the rebound went off Kirby's chest (who was standing in the crease himself) and directly into the goal. But all-in-all, they held onto that lead became the first invitee to the tournament to win a game at the Primelink (and the first 4th team to win one without a shootout). I, too, am hoping tonight goes just as well. I'll be there, and much like yesterday, will be switching from red to purple between games :)

Tha puck is quicker that the eye Nate! See Strauss video HERE . McD made the save but Kirby ended up redirecting the rebound right to Strauss who banged it in. Interesting weekend of hockey as the PL always is...now we get to see the trajectory of these 4 teams during the next 10 weeks...wonder how it will all shake out.

Middlebury looks to me as if they have their edge back. I'll pencil the Panthers in as the favorite to win the NESCAC this year.

Plattsburgh will be fine. They'll make the SUNYAC finals as always...Elmira definitely has some talent and when they stay out of the box and can put together a full 60 minutes they are going to be an awfully tough out.

Great video, and settled any questions.

Re: Primelink Tourney Tix

Re: Primelink Tourney Tix

on the videos, #3 lost his man on the 2nd goal.
I could totally see Steve Bidus weearing those yellow pads

Re: Primelink Tourney Tix

Also looks like #3 got beat on the first goal.

OK lets break down this goal. It’s hard to see because video is only a couple seconds long
Here is how I see it. EC is in good position because they have 4 players back (2 D, 2F).
The play starts with what looks like a 2 on 1 against #3(again can’t see player that makes pass for M’Bury). #3 plays the 2 on 1 and plays pass. Pass gets through for the redirect and redirects are hard to stop. But with #17 so deep he is out of position to get “stick on puck” to prevent redirect.
The break down is with #17 (D) and F1 coming back. F1 has his guy but #17 doesn’t read it fast enough or they aren’t communicating.
At least that’s how I see it.

Videos here if you want to see it develop

Given the short clip your analysis is spot on. Just prior to the clip sequence, however, #3 is stride for stride with the eventual scorer and then moved to block the pass as the 2-1 developed. Although it appears that #17 is indecisive, he was staying put in the slot probably assuming that #3 had the shooter just 2 strides earlier and he was there as backup. Certainly, as you point out, there was a breakdown in communication between #3 and #17, not unexpected given the pace and intensity of this game.

Re: Elmira College 2011-2012

you have the full clip? Would love to see this play develop. Is that your site the vids are posted on? If so good work! Wish EC had something like that
Assuming this play is based on a EC turnover in N zone or near blue line.

I would bet that DH003325 would be going, perhaps he can pick up a hat for you. He's an OK guy;)

Yes, thanks..it is a site I maintain for Friends of Panther Hockey. You are correct that a Midd player broke up a play in transition in the nuetral zone and reversed back to the Elmira zone and that is how the play developed. We reviewed it on the TV station's LCD in the pressbox at the time. My camera is fixed so my film shows the transition out of the Elmira zone after a missed Middlebury shot and then shows McDonald resetting him self as Middlebury breaks back in to score.

I was at the game and saw that both #3 and #17 were at the end of a long shift. What we don't see on the clip was that #17 was heading back to the bench when the turnover occured in the neutral zone and was forced to scramble back deep into the defensive zone. As seen on the clip, with the speed of the oncoming Middlebury forward, #17 was unable to reach the shot in time.

Great game! Had to leave before end but EC is fast. OT win!! Coach has them playing great and strong defense. Won't list lines or forecheck out of courtesy to coach, don't want to give away :)
Got a chance to talk to coach Saul and Coach Jackson along with Trainer Dave. Was great catching up with them. Instant memories.
Got my "wounded warrior" sweatshirt but it's odd there is an "H" on the front for hockey and not "EC". Ha!
Will end with saying how proud I am to have been a part of EC hockey and what a good job coach is doing. EC is a premier program with strong tradition.

I'll post pics on Monday
