Re: Primelink Tourney Tix

Re: Primelink Tourney Tix

According to the Athletics Dept, tickets for the Primelink Thanksgiving weekend tournament at Middlebury will be for sale at the ticket table at Saturday night's Neumann! game. They were unsure of the price, although the going rate for Middlebury games is $7.

Friday: 4:00 Norwich / Platts --- 7:00 M'bury / Elmira
Saturday: 4:00 Consolation --- 7:00 Championship

Hope to see a healthy contingent of Elmira fans at the PrimeLink and the Northfield Savings Bank Tourney! :)

Or you can do what most of use have done and go to http://boxoffice.middlebury.edu/index.php. Under "type", select "hockey". The 2 days of Primelink tickets are at the bottom of that page. $10/day for both games that day ($20 for all 4). You can either buy them "will-call" or have them mailed to you... neither costs you anything additional!

Just bought mine last night. Sadly, won't be able to make the Plattsburgh-Norwich game Friday afternoon, but I'll be there for the night game between EC and Midd! (meaning I can safely wear Purple and Gold for at least the first day...)

Oswego would have to give up either their home and home with Elmira or Utica to do it though and I don't see them doing that.

There is no way the Pathfinder Bank Tourney is going anywhere anytime soon so that's 6 of your 7 non-conference games already spoken for.

It'd be great to add Oswego permanently into the mix as a fourth host but my guess is the three "core" host teams won't go for it and Oswego isn't exactly in PrimeLink's coverage area either so they probably wouldn't be too keen on it.

That and once Potsdam left they wanted a non conference opponent.

Re: Elmira College 2011-2012

I would personally love to see Elmira added as a permanent 4th team. But they're way out of Primelink's area of operations, so I doubt they'd be allowed to host it... and I doubt even more that EC would be willing to commit to it without the possibility of hosting.

Re: Elmira College 2011-2012

Hey Elmira fans, there's a game tonight, sure is a good thing we don't have to rely on the Star Regret for our information, not a word in today's paper about tonight's game.

Neumann! @ Elmira

Neumann! @ Elmira

Two very evenly matched and skilled teams. First period was one of the 10 best I recall ever seeing.
- Refs were Blais and Wallace, two that I don't ever recall seeing before. Called a nice game. For the most part left the cheap stuff go, and called the substantive penalties
- Neumann! took 3 more misconducts/DQs tonight - mostly for yapping - and waaayy too many penalties. Very undisciplined.
- McKinnon and Mcdonald both looked strong tonight, and despite the score, McKinnon seemed to be more solid.
- Neumann! had 3 point blankers which didn't go in.
- Elmira dominated the first, but Neumann! seemed to control play during the first half of the 2nd and 3rd periods. Last night's debacle in Geneva obviously took something out of them.
- Strale and Lee should get All-American consideration.
- Elmira's speed is evident on all four lines. Extremely tough against which to matchup.
- Only Frosh dressed was Josh Bunnell who impressed. Quick, smart, strong, no major gafs, but was playing with Strale and Hoey who could make me look good.

Goal 1: Consorti one-timed a feed from Acorn behind the net
Goal 2: Strale streaked up the right side, deked the jock off a defender
Goal 3: Keaney gets left alone on the left post, and McDougall found him
Goal 4: Strale muscles a puck from behind the net, and jams it through McKinnon
Goal 5: Oakes streaking into the crease on a perfect pass from Acorn
Goal 6: Zalba? punched a rebound through McDonald's legs

Good statement game from the boys. David was the other frosh on D that started the game but left at the end of the first with an injury.

EC v M'bury

EC v M'bury

Interesting hockey evening. Norwich and P'burgh were essentially playing not to lose. Emery was emphasizing defense first, and the Cards undoing was two defensive lapses in which they gave away the puck. On to the main event.

During the 1st, EC outhustled and outmuscled the Panthers to take the lead. A scramble off a rebound, a screened slap-pass from the point and a beautiful one-timer Consorti to McClean from the left side of the high slot.

Most likely due to the sheet size, after the first, both teams changed lines frequently, and would settle for a single rush, then switch up. The first M'bury goal was a bad line change, and a fatigued group couldn't get to tht bench quickly enough.

Middlebury used a pretty intense 2-2-1 forecheck which gave EC fits at times clearing the puck. The Panthers shut down both boards, so the Eagles began clearing the puck up the middle, which is dangerous and probably what Beany wanted. Fortunately the D never coughed it up.

EC survived a 3x5 and a bizarre goalie equipment malfunction during which both teams called timesout, DeMelo came in briefly, also had "trouble" with his pads, and eventually took long enough for Darren to get his issues sorted out.

Very few penalties, refs did a great job, and St Louis looks exactly like Jerry Stiller, the father-in-law on the King of Queens. Middlebury crowd is the quietest I've ever heard, or perhaps they're not yet accustomed to getting whipped on their own ice.

Solid job all night by all four lines. No gafs, nothing outstanding ... just a great job of mucking in the corners, finishing checks, and back-checking for a full 60 minutes. Middlebury is a talented squad, and really ties up sticks well.

Here's hoping tonight is as uneventful ;<)

Great recap! I will say this: One of Middlebury's goals (the second, I think?) was what I would qualify as a "gaffe". From my spot behind that goal, what I saw was the shot come in, MacDonald blocked it, but the rebound went off Kirby's chest (who was standing in the crease himself) and directly into the goal. But all-in-all, they held onto that lead became the first invitee to the tournament to win a game at the Primelink (and the first 4th team to win one without a shootout). I, too, am hoping tonight goes just as well. I'll be there, and much like yesterday, will be switching from red to purple between games :)

EC v Norwich

EC v Norwich

Had the first period been called as last night's game, or even as periods 2 & 3, things may have been different, but Norwich adjusted to the tight whistles, and EC did not and paid the price.

EC's power play was anemic, but their kill was great when they pressed the puck. After two or three kills, they packed it in, and Norwich capitalized. Shots were 18-3 after one!

EC played an intense forecheck ala M'bury from last night, and seemed to be wearing out the Cadets as they tried to clear the puck on the big sheet. However, if the forecheck did force a turnover, no one had the legs to get to the front of the net. The extra special teams duty finally caught up with them, and their forecheck went passive. NU played a 1-2-2 zone trap.

Third period, EC had chance after chance, but could never capitalize.

McDonald was great and won the all tourney Goaltender, Lee got one of the defensemen awards.
Impressed with David, he showed bursts of speed, and literally knocked Thomas out of the game for half a period.

Goals
1 - NU left Vallaincort all alone in front, and he buried it.
2 - After a phantom slash, NU scored just as a 3x5 expired.
3 - PP high slot shot with a screened McDonald
4 - PP 1 timer from the left circle through traffic
5 - Clewlow beat the entire defense on a break-away
6 - Sawyer gave away the puck at the blue-line
7 - Flip clear that bounced in from the blue line with an empty net

Re: EC v Norwich

Overall, a good weekend in the fact that they now know that the can play with the top teams and, if they can stay out of the penalty box, start getting some PP goals, they can be right in the thick of things come NCAA Tourney time.
Seems Penalties and lack of a strong power play are what is hurting us.
