Re: Elections 2012:What unites us is greater than what divides us

is this ironic?

No, if you half-*** policies and procedures in any walk of life, it will create the need to edit and add procedures for years to come. And when you look up half-*** in the dictionary, it says: see Government, US

Re: Elections 2012:What unites us is greater than what divides us

It is reasonable to say that Obama's policies are responsible for the relative weakness of this recovery compared to prior recoveries. that is quite a different statement from what you suggested.

Show me a previous marketplace and psychological crisis that compared with 2008/2009...where nearly all assets, including American's net worths, cut in half. Then we can compare recoveries.

Not playing the blame game lasted for...one post. :)

The Great Depression, 1929-1932.

That was easy.

Re: Elections 2012:What unites us is greater than what divides us

The Great Depression, 1929-1932.

That was easy.

Sure.

And the reaction to that was to put in common sense middle class growth policies. We're having the complete opposite reaction now. The result of the reaction after the Great Depression was the greatest economic boom ever seen on the planet. The result of today's reaction? Bankruptcy.

We're now seeing the results of those policies. And they're not an option this time.

Dude, the ONLY thing that got us out of the Great Depression was World War II.

Nope, wrong, and wrong again.

Re: Elections 2012:What unites us is greater than what divides us

Someone completely forgot that the country sank back into the depression in 1937.

Don't worry. We're getting what we want. Bankruptcy and the complete destruction of the middle class. It's all part of the plan.

But the boom took quite a while to occur:

So based on comparison, we'd expect unemployment rates to get back to 2007 levels in about 2020.

Look at that massive drop from 1941 to 1942. What could have possibly caused that? Oh right, a bunch of Asians bombing Hawaii.

The ONLY way we get out of this depression is World War III.

Uh, no. Because the policies that were put in place took that long to take hold. Many of those policies are still in place now. For example, because of Social Security we don't have millions of old people leaving in squalor and abject poverty like we did during the Great Depression.

Re: Elections 2012:What unites us is greater than what divides us

More people with intelligence but no idea how the world works.
I can't help that more people don't listen to Dick Hill. He has no axe to grind, he crunches the numbers on a napkin and can show you why they don't work, yet they continue with the ruse Wind power is the way to go.For any Mainers that might be interested in hearing him talk about energy, every Saturday morning on 103.9 and 101.3 on your FM dial, from 8 to 10 am.

The one windmill in Maine that might give you real numbers is at UMPI, for some reason its always broken, being public property and on the same scale as the major wind projects throughout the state one might be able to see what the big guys actually generate. like I said it hasn't worked for quite some time, imagine that.

Now offshore wind power might be a go but in the mountains of Maine, not a chance.

Re: Elections 2012:What unites us is greater than what divides us

stopped in to watch Priceless jump the shark.

wind generators. I HATE those things. visual blight, noisy, kill birds. and for what? a trickle of electricity? ever see high power transmission lines leaving a wind farm?
Here in the Southwest people have gradually noticed that the wind generators tend to not run as much during peak times, when their power is needed the most, significantly reducing their value.

Re: Elections 2012:What unites us is greater than what divides us

I thought the idea was that she was born without sin and maintained that status through her life, which included the birth of Jesus. Hence, any comment about her and God having sex, is as I described below. Of course, Bill Maher would applaud Priceless' comments. Always good to have a role model.
That's a Catholic doctrine, but Protestant Christianity views Mary as born sinful, just like everyone else since Adam and Eve's fall. Mary is obviously quite admirable, but in the end the main point was Jesus divine conception and birth, not Mary. The whole pray to Mary thing Catholics do has always been a puzzler to me.

I find people's devotion to Paul's teachings over Jesus the most puzzling.

It's getting better every day as energy storage technology improves.

Re: Elections 2012:What unites us is greater than what divides us

There were a variety of factors that got us out of the great depression...notably WWII.

Having said that, there are multiple paths to victory and defeat for the US economy today. I think the most likely scenario to take the US economy to a higher level...is either a massive improvement in business productivity (ie the 90's) or a massive improvement in US competitiveness (and different paths here include both labor and business empowerment). The big hope is that govt doesn't mess things up. Today its not IMO. But #1 we can't let the debt issue can't turn into a crisis of confidence.

I don't see a differentiation between what Paul and Jesus taught. They seem very compatable to me.
