Election Results Thread

Ok so hyperbole aside did liberals accept the polls as gospel and stay home?

[sigh]

Guessing that's true with millenial voters, especially in the voter suppression states (WI, NC, OH). (Keep in mind this is the first election where this has been the case re voter suppression) Not sure if there's any way to confirm that but that's my guess. I know millenial turnout in the past hasn't been nearly as good as baby boomer turnout and we all know who each of those generations is voting for.

I did my part but I live in MN.

Re: Election Results Thread

I’ve always dreamed of settling down and starting a family. But for the first time in my life, I’m glad I don’t have a family and I’m especially glad I don’t have a daughter. The questions would be unbearably difficult to answer.

How do I wake up tomorrow and explain to her what happened last night when she asks? That America doesn’t value you because you’re not a man. That you still can’t be president because you’re not a man.

Beyond that, how would I tell my children that America doesn’t value diversity? What would I tell my child if they were a member of the LGBT community? That America doesn’t value you unless you’re a heterosexual, white, Christian, male? We rend our garments and gnash our teeth over Sharia Law but let Christian fundamentalists run amok in our government.

Racism has won. Xenophobia has won. Sexism and misogyny have won. Fundamentalism has won. Lies have won. A man who ran a scam university won. A man that doesn’t pay his contracts won. A man who doesn’t understand NAFTA or the implications won. A man who judges you based upon your looks won. A man who only cares what you have to say if you have a *****.

This isn’t a rebuke of Washington. The incumbents would have had widespread losses if it was. They haven’t. I might have accepted this result if it were the case. But no, this is an embrace of racism and sexism. An embrace of the qualities we've worked for decades to eliminate.

Welcome to an America where you can’t dream anymore. Welcome to an America where a bunch of white men in ridiculous red hats tell you what to believe. Welcome to an America where we test you based on your religion. Welcome to an American where we objectify you if you’re a woman. Welcome to an America where you are probably guilty because you’re walking while black.

I’m glad I don’t have a family. How could I explain to my child that for the first time in my life, I don’t believe in what America represents anymore?

Well I think with all the surrogates out for HRC, the Latino and African-American lack of participation in this election is baffling. The Black support that Obama got was just not the same for Clinton and the Latino vote not enough compared to 2012. People can't complain that Trump won if they didn't vote.

Bonni woke at two.
I wanted to give her a few more hours but she had to know
Trying hard not to be confident or jinx it
Sleep still on her eyes
Christmas morning.
She cried and cried and cried.
Earlier we shared the story of Susan B. Anthony's grave
How people laid their "I voted" stickers all around
She's no sentimentalist; that hit us hard.
America always letting us down,
Always coming through in the end
(There is no end)
This acorn grows hard in our hearts
We are always becoming
Something stranger

Re: Election Results Thread

It must have been the tax filings both candidates released.

The only solace I can offer the Democratic supporters is that you're going to see the GOP lose control of Congress in two years because the GOP will overstep their bounds and the public will want to reign them back from the craziness.

Haven't had nearly enough time to read through the thread. I just wanted to say thank god for Rover - literally the only thing I am happy about this morning is that he has to suck it.

Not much of a silver lining....

Oh grow up. We're getting the worst President at least since Nixon and you're thrilled that I'm disappointed? What an idiot.

America is a lot darker place than I think many of us thought. That's the worst part of all this but hey, you get what you vote for. Have fun with President Trump whoever voted for him.

Re: Election Results Thread

I see congress flipping in 18 if things go like trump has said.

Yeah the weird thing is if people actually bothered to read or consider any of these policies he's proposed, the white working class probably is going to see almost zero benefits from this. A lot these changes that have depressed middle class wages either are beyond the reach of simple policy tweaks or something the Republican party specifically disfavors. Throw in this apparent looming global recession and the fact that the US seems to naturally walk back the President's majority and this might happen.

On the other hand, 2018 is really favorable for Republicans in the Senate and the usually gerrymandering in most states basically means Republicans can probably hold on barring a total, 2006 style meltdown.

Yeah, unfortunately all us will be involved in the "fun". And I mean all 7 billion of us.

Re: Election Results Thread

I didn't sleep well last night. Didn't fall asleep until after 1 am CT and was up before my alarm this morning (4:50am).

Seeing retweets of David Duke celebrating having Donald win was terrible to see in Twitter this morning.

CBS News Radio was dumbfounded the whole hour drive into work this morning.

Re: Election Results Thread

One of the things CBS Radio said this morning was that exit polls showed that Trump had 70% of the white male no-college educated voters, and over 60% of the white female no-college educated voters.

Which is embarrassing because those people won't realize that the person and party they support are the same ones who will sh** all over them for four years, then come with hat in hand begging for continuation of their mission.

Gotta hand it to Trump for being the poster child for the "Get Out and Vote" campaign.

Re: Election Results Thread

Trump just grabbed America by the pu$$y. And he was right. When you're famous, they let you do it.
