ECAC Playoffs, 2011

Re: ECAC Playoffs, 2011

I agree Clarkson got better and has better goaltending, but Dartmouth improved a lot too still handled them easily on the road recently. Certainly wasn't Clarkson's best game last time and I'm sure they came in with something to prove and maybe Dartmouth took them too lightly. Looking at the box score, I wouldn't pin the loss on goaltending: everyone played worse. Now maybe Dartmouth got deflated after giving up so many early goals, but you don't blame the goaltending for that. Dartmouth should have enough firepower and will to comeback from such an early deficit.

You are putting words in my mouth. I never "blamed" the Dartmouth goaltending. I simply said that IMHO, the Clarkson tending is better as a general statement. Did not even discuss the specifics of last nights game.

Right, but you did make a prediction that Clarkson would win because of better goaltending and I was evaluating whether that was true for the first game.

Re: ECAC Playoffs, 2011

Dartmouth/Clarkson 2 PM. As I attempted to outline above did come back (Dart) in 2009 going on to sweep and gain overall tournament championship (with Trunzo contributing two goals and an equal number of assists.)

Likely/possibly, OnMAA, win over Cornell in such a dramatic fashion raised expectations, pushed chest's out. Player's heads can be turned. I believe, however, Hudak has secret juju hidden in amongst assistants. Again, could be some "pig" in first period today!

No matter the outcome my hat is off to van der Bliek and her mates at RPI!

Sure it does. Apparently the loss, in addition to facing a good Dartmouth team, was helped by it falling during Bicker Week (Princeton's version of fraternity rush), which meant no sleep for a few days for several of the players. They had enough gas in the tank to beat Harvard, but were running on fumes by the time they got to Hanover.

Likely you are aware Dartmouth and that Ivy from the Bay State, this year, in many years, schedules are in tandem. Dart plays one (PU) one day, Harvard plays that one (PU) the next day, and vice versi. Hope this is clear for my 'fans'. Seeing as it's (famous, illustrious, heralded, pampered, lauded, pumped up, cocky, given every benefit of the doubt, regal...) HARVARD, Dartmouth can sometimes benefit.

Maybe of such you speak, Doctor? :p

Can we borrow some of that "secret Juju" for next year. :)

Re: Score Update

Re: Score Update

Harvard ahead 4-0 after one period against a team that came within a whisker of them in both regular season games. All four lines in synch. Good to be peaking now as a number of potential opponents appear to be peaking as well. Should be quite a showdown next week!

Re: ECAC Playoffs, 2011

If you look at Clarkson's ECAC results, they clearly were a much better first day team than 2nd day team. Dartmouth was maybe slightly better on the 2nd day. The series results have been consistent with those predictions. The third day? Unchartered territory to some extent, but Dartmouth is 2-0 on Tuesdays when playing 3 games in 5 days while Clarkson lost to St. Lawrence in overtime recently. I'll stick with Dartmouth.

SLU scores 3 in 2nd period, Harvard now leads 4-3. Much more like previous H/SLU contests this year. Hope results will be the same, though!

Harvard is on the verge of an epic collapse if they don't get their act together. Soon. I guess they can't stand prosperity.

Re: ECAC Playoffs, 2011

What's even crazier is that it's the second straight game this happened.

1st Period aggregate: Harvard wins 8-1 (4-1, 4-0) outshoots 32-13 (14-7,18-6)
2nd Period aggregate: Harvard loses 0-3 (0-0, 0-3) outshot 15-27 (8-14, 7-13)
3rd Period aggregate: Harvard wins 6-0 (2-0, 4-0) outshoots 20-15* (9-9, 11-6*)

*Don't have the final 3rd period total, 11-6 is with 4:20 left according to collegehockeystats

This team playing 60 minutes will be tough to beat. 40 minutes seems good enough to sweep SLU though.

Re: ECAC Playoffs, 2011

Cornell wins 6-1. Have to give RPI lots of credit for battling hard both games. Shots on goal were 39-10. Johnston had a hatrick, Karpenko 2 goals, White a goal and an assist. Jenner and Rougeau each had two assists.

Re: ECAC Playoffs, 2011

Quinnipiac, Cornell and Harvard moving on.

If my understanding of the system is correct, semis will be:

If Dartmouth wins:
Cornell - Quinnipiac
Harvard - Dartmouth

If Clarkson wins:
Cornell - Clarkson
Harvard - Quinnipiac.

Re: ECAC Playoffs, 2011

NewbieBear: that's correct.

Some perspective: if Clarkson does beat Dartmouth, then the ECAC Final Four will match the top four teams in last year's final standings (who were also the top four in the preseason poll).

One perspective on Princeton is that they overachieved in the regular season and did as expected in the postseason. Possibly same for Dartmouth. Meanwhile, Quinnipiac underachieved a bit during the regular season and finally showed up this weekend, and ditto for Clarkson at least in Game One.

ECAC Playoffs, 2011

Surely there remains unfinished business for Dartmouth in the Bay State. Ouch. Twice, O U C H! Only...ONLY perhaps to get a chance to play there again would I make sure I came out on top tomorrow.

Albeit in a different order. IIRC last years semi's had Cornell vs Harvard and Clarky vs RPI. Did Quinny not lose in a marathon to RPI in last years quarters ?.
