ECAC Playoffs, 2011

Re: ECAC Playoffs, 2011

Ok, but I think Princeton would be the clear favorite in their quarterfinal based on the strong 2nd half, even considering their recent playoff woes and poor 1st half. With Quinnipiac, it seems like there's only been a 50-50 chance they'll show up each night all season.

Agree that this is the most intriguing match-up of the first round. Hard to call. Either way, one of these two teams will get last years Monkey of their back. The winner is hoping for an upset in one of the other three series to avoid a clash with Cornell in the next round.

I don't know what your definition of "lit the world on fire" means, but Princeton has gone 13-2 over their last 15, including six shoutouts and a win over Harvard on the road. That doesn't guarantee that they won't pull their usual el-foldo in the playoffs, but give credit where credit is due.

Losing to Dartmouth 7-0 during that (winning) span causes it to lose some, much maybe, luster, no? I was surprised at that outcome.

Sure it does. Apparently the loss, in addition to facing a good Dartmouth team, was helped by it falling during Bicker Week (Princeton's version of fraternity rush), which meant no sleep for a few days for several of the players. They had enough gas in the tank to beat Harvard, but were running on fumes by the time they got to Hanover.

Maybe I'm old school, but why would varsity athletes even participate in that mid season. ? Do it in the off season or at the start of the school year.

I was thinking the same thing...has to be the worst excuse ever.

Re: ECAC Playoffs, 2011

As a veteran of bicker, I would say only members, not applicants, need not stay up to the wee hours, and they only have to do so if they wish. As to timing during the year, you don't really have a choice, if you choose to partake. Unlike Greek systems in most schools, two-thirds of upper class students at Princeton join an eating club.

I wouldn't put enormous weight on this explanation; sleep deprivation seems more of a constant in college life than an exception.

Re: ECAC Playoffs, 2011

Hobeika gets one with about 2 minutes remaining in the second to get Dartmouth on the board. Score is now 4-1.

EDIT: 2nd period ends with Clarkson leading 4-1.

My Engineers are hanging in there for one period anyway, against Cornell: 1-1 after one, but shots are 10-3 for Cornell.

Good call, onMAA. :( More Gold than Green today. Rocked Dartmouth back on their heels at home. Pshaw. Not even an empty netter. And unlike against Colgate, (two years ago was it with Sarah Parsons getting the hat trick and Amanda scoring two goals and two assist) didn't close the gap today as they did then-once feet apparently under them. That year came back from down 4-2 at the end of the first period but kept digging (OT loss, eventually) and went on to sweep Raiders, SLU and RPI (who had gotten the number of that Bay State Ivy team.)

Freshman goalie that good?

Mañana a primera período debe ser infernal!"
[Tomorrow's first period should be hellish!]

Methinks series settled then, more or less?

Re: ECAC Playoffs, 2011

Amazing in Ithaca. Shots with 6 to go in third and Engineers in the lead 2-1 are about 26/12 (against RPI) but in third, 11-0 (against). Yikes! True grit. Can't help but pull for Rensselaer!
