ECAC Playoffs, 2011

Re: ECAC Playoffs, 2011

Yes, Dartmouth definitely has better offensive numbers than Harvard this season. But clearly Harvard has had an exceptional last two weeks offensively, with 7 against Colgate, 3 against Cornell (still exceptional), then 6 & 8 against SLU. Before this stretch, Buesser had less than half the points she had last season. Now she has 5 goals and 3 assists in her last four games. Harvard's top 3 senior forwards, who had been a bit quieter than I expected for most of the season, seem to be firing on all cylinders now.

Exactly. When I see these Harvard forwards play, they always look impressive to me, three great talents, and when they are clicking, a beauty to watch. In addition, Nanji excepted, Harvard has some serious D material and depth, as a group much stronger than Clarky or Darty.

Pappy/Jack (no dis-respect), you are hereby deputized to make the trip down to the Bay State on this Thursday, to help out the cheering section for those fans unable to make a l,000 mile trip, to cheer on the Big Green against the mighty Crimson! Go Big Green!

Did you SEE me at Thompson against Cornell (was a maniac...)?
Oy vey!

I have been thinking...

Re: ECAC Playoffs, 2011

Glad it made you smile. That was the intent. Love your unwavered loyalty to the Big Green. Me Thinks it's a breath of fresh air.

There is enough misery in the world. I worked two 16 hours shifts this weekend, emergency issues, so this site is a welcome relief during the odd 20 minutes that I could get away from it.

Keep up the good postings. I do enjoy them very much.

Next year when I visit the Big Green in Hanover we should meet...Our team can use some of that JuJu...You can let me in on the secret ? :) ......OnMAA

You a worker!
We will have to conjure. As to secret power, magic, etc.

Come to Axeman Island in Lake Fleet Group this summer. Special site inland adjacent to Chief Axeman's grave. I'll teach you the salute-extend hand away from face (do it now...so you'll be READY.) Thumb touches the nose end. Fingers vertical and fingers spread. Salute executed by, WAGGLING fingers without losing contact with nose!

Far as I am allowed to go.

This explains everything.... ;)

Harvard has been rolling four lines this weekend consistently which seems like a departure from what Coach Stone normally does with her squad. It definitely affected SLU's D as the game wore on - they were tired from having fresh legs constantly harrassing them from everywhere in the offensive zone.

Dartmouth and Harvard are both different teams than their first encounters in November. I expect a close, hard fought game. The opposing coaches know each other so well that there won't be any surprises. Whichever team wants it more and gets the better goaltending should win.

Re: ECAC Playoffs, 2011

Team doesn't fire on all cylinders every year until money is on the line, IMHO.

I hereby admit to being rankled by this every every year!
I am RANKLED.

What I would like to see would be an open discussion as to WHY this occurs.

It may not be on purpose. It may merely be the result of attitudes engendered by (merely) being associated with this particular Bay State Ivy...innoculously.

My REAL question is therefore: Might such as our subject team so believe in themselves-be cocksure to such an exstent...that they don't believe they have to show up until the season is (so) far advanced?

Don't worry, be happy. At least they showed up when it counted this past weekend. :D

Re: ECAC Playoffs, 2011

I think they are there now. And when they are there they can rise sooooo high. Dartmouth has, in times past and even and especially of late as well shown this ability to lift their game. Amazed at outcome of final game against Clarkson!

Whatever as to motivation, perhaps. Sometimes I harbor, let breath life, too misty deep suspicions and dark hunches!

Next!

ECAC Playoffs, 2011

Great good luck to Dartmouth tomorrow.
Take it to them. Do not let up. Work. Play your game.
Play through to the puck in the back of the net for your team, a win on the scoreboard for your team.
There is nothing else.

It's pretty crazy that this is first Harvard-Dartmouth ECAC tournament matchup in 6 years, considering that these two programs have won every ECAC postseason title since 1999 except for Brown in 2000 & 2002 in Cornell last year. Prior to that, the teams met five straight seasons from 1999-2003, and again in the 2005 final (Harvard winning the 1999 & 2005 final, Dartmouth winning the 2001 & 2003 finals, the 2000 & 2002 semifinals). They also met in the 2008 NCAA quarterfinal, which Harvard won.

We would have seen Dartmouth in '09 had we been able to solve Van der Bliek from RPI in the semis of the ECAC tournament. That still hurts but it is what it is. That tournament title was practically giftwrapped for the Green given what RPI had to go through to win that semifinal.

As Kate Buesser said in the Crimson article, it is a rivalry although I don't think it is as strong as it was from 2000 - 2007. Cornell in my mind is a bigger rival given their ascent to national title contender.

Well I'd say to be a good rivalry you need at least some parity in H2H results between the teams. Harvard has owned Dartmouth H2H recently and Cornell has owned Harvard H2H recently. If either of these flip this tournament, then we can start calling these rivalries.

Re: ECAC Playoffs, 2011

Dartmouth wins 4-1. Trunzo with 2 goals, Berreman and Dumais with one apiece. A great game - Dartmouth controlled it! Will be heading to Ithaca!
