Last season, the ECAC teams finished 67-42-3 out-of-conference collectively. That includes going 1-4 in the 2023 national tournament. (They also went 1-4 out-of-conference in the 2022 national tournament.) This season so far, they have a great out-of-conference record.
Results yesterday: Clarkson wins at Syracuse; Harvard loses at UNH.

This weekend's games between ECAC and WCHA ranked teams Colgate at Minnesota Duluth (2 games), St. Lawrence at Ohio State (2 game), and Minnesota vs Cornell (1 game) should provide some exciting hockey. The results will likely have a big impact on the PWR rankings of the two leagues.

Well... there's some good and bad news for ECAC women's hockey teams.

Yale won 10-0 vs Sacred Heart. Cornell won 4-1 vs St. Thomas. Quinnipiac won 4-2 vs UConn (and Quinnipiac and Yale play for the Nutmeg on Sat). The ECAC website's women's standings page also is now able to reflect the results of ties in conference games (1.5 points).

Harvard lost 3-1 vs Minnesota. Dartmouth lost 6-5 vs Penn State. St. Lawrence lost 11-0 at Ohio State. Colgate lost 3-0 at UMD. And some losses in ranked matchups will dent the teams' Pairwise Rankings.

I believe the top several WCHA teams have started to show the benefit of playing each other, and collectively upping their game, at this point in the season. (They have also had time to practice.) We've seen those effects with ECAC teams playing stretches of conference games and practice across the season too.

Games continue on Sat. From the West Coast, I caught the Yale game and parts of the Harvard and Colgate ones. Harvard looked worn out in the 3rd period, and Colgate looked competitive with UMD in the 2nd period that I partly saw.

I was wondering if you could clarify this comment, are you saying your teams for some reason don't practice regularly or like other teams?

Oh that's not what I meant! I meant that the better teams may be getting better as the season goes on - the more cohesive they become with practice and playing together. For example, Ohio State may be accelerating ahead of St. Lawrence and really hitting their stride.

Thanks for the explanation and I agree with your point.
At the beginning of the season I complimented our coach on the level of talent she recruited for this season and her reply was "If I can only get them to play together" which I thought was pretty obvious in our first game of the season at Colgate which we looked very out of sync and rusty resulting in a loss. I thought we steadily proved each game and last weekend against #1 Wisconsin we finally looked fully cohesive and I don't want to rub salt in any ECAC wounds on how we looked last night.

A very powerful showing by the some of the top WCHA teams against some of the top ECAC teams.

New thread title: ECAC 2023-2024: New Year, Same Poor Showing against WCHA Top Teams

Results (New Year, Same Losses to WCHA):
- ECAC teams go 1-6-1 vs WCHA teams on the weekend, including 0-4-1 in games between ranked teams.
- and Brown loses to Providence (1-0) for the Mayor's Cup.
- Quinnipiac shuts out Yale 3-0 for the Nutmeg.
- RPI wins 6-1 vs Assumption.
- and Clarkson sweeps Syracuse.

The top 4 in the standings going into next weekend are Colgate, St. Lawrence, Cornell, and Clarkson, and SLU might catch 'Gate in the standings shortly. Next weekend (Fri 12/1 - Sun 12/3):
- SLU at Harvard, Clarkson at Dartmouth, Fri; SLU at Dartmouth, Clarkson at Harvard, Sat
- Union at Quinnipiac, RPI at Princeton, Fri; RPI at Quinnipiac, Union at Princeton, Sat
- Brown-Yale home-and-home, Sat and Sun
Colgate and Cornell are off. Their next games are Colgate at Syracuse, 12/5; and Clarkson at Cornell, 1/5.

I thought the first weekend of the season the Ohio State - Colgate series was competitive but now that both teams have played enough weekends to get tuned up I can't help but wonder how they do now in a rematch. Maybe we'll find out in the post season?

I can only think back to 2016-2017. Clarkson loses 2 at home to Wisconsin and then shuts out Wisconsin in the NC$$ Championship game for their 2nd title. Who knows what will happen in a one and done game. Maybe a little deja vue come NC$$ time will happen again in 2024, 10 years after the ECAC's first NC$$ Champion.

Two USA-Canada Rivalry Series games are coming up in Ontario, Thurs Dec 14 (7PM ET) and Sat Dec 16 (5PM ET). Canada announced its new roster for those games, and it includes some current ECAC players, Nicole Gosling (D, Clarkson), Anne Cherkowski (F, Clarkson), Julia Gosling (F, St. Lawrence), and Danielle Serdachny (F, Colgate). They will not have any college games to miss in that time.

Cherkowski and Nicole Gosling - Julia Gosling's cousin - haven't played on the senior national team before; they are debuting alongside Jennifer Gardiner (F, Ohio State), and Ann-Renee Desbiens is returning.

WCH, Eh? That's what that one's called I think? : )

The Clarkson loss is pretty far behind me and U Dub has racked up enough Natties after that to the point where I can get a little loosely cocky. :) I'd rather see the EZAC do better than Hockey Easy, aside from Clarkson of course.

Clarkson, sometimes nemesis of Wisconsin (as well as of Minnesota) - I understand that you wouldn't root for them.

The new USA roster for the December Rivalry Series includes Rory Guilday (D, Cornell) and Haley Winn (D, Clarkson) again - along with Ally Simpson (D, Colgate), making her senior national team debut.
