ECAC 2023-2024: New year, new ice

The ECAC and WCHA are currently about "tied" in their inter-conference records early in the season (available via USCHO) at .771.

As fans of Wisconsin have noted on their thread, their team certainly looks amazing so far, just having fun scoring lots of goals.

ECAC results:
- Quinnipiac won vs Brown (1-0) and Yale (6-3).
- Princeton lost vs Yale (3-0) but won vs Brown (3-0).
- Harvard lost vs Union (3-1) and RPI (5-4 OT).
- Dartmouth lost vs RPI (5-4 OT) but tied Union (1-1).
Out to first place in the ECAC, Quinnipiac is one of three untied & undefeated teams nationally, with Minnesota and Wisconsin. St. Lawrence, Clarkson, and Cornell were still in non-conference games. The ECAC records can be found here at the bottom (3 pts for regulation win, 2 pts for OT win, 1.5 pts for tie, and 1 point for OT loss); the ECAC website is still having trouble reflecting the points system.

Going to be fun to watch the ECAC this season. What a strong group of at least 7 teams and a lot of the games already could have gone either way.

This weekend (Fri 10/27 – Sat 10/28):
  • Quinnipiac & Princeton @ Clarkson & St. Lawrence
  • Dartmouth & Harvard @ Brown & Yale
  • Cornell & Colgate @ Union & RPI

RPI tough against Colgate, Union tough against Cornell, Harvard tough against Yale, Brown blows away Dartmouth. There is no team in the ECAC that will go quietly into the night this year. Fasten your seat belts.

A little more parity being shown than many expected before the season. I do not think any team can take it easy on any given night or they will end up with a bit of a surprise.

Yeah, more parity than many expected!

The weekend's results:
  • Quinnipiac & Princeton both lost twice @ Clarkson & St. Lawrence: the North Country trip is a challenge!
  • Dartmouth & Harvard both lost twice @ Brown & Yale: Brown and Yale won soundly vs Dartmouth.
  • Cornell & Colgate both won twice @ Union & RPI: Colgate @ RPI was particularly close, 4-3.

This coming weekend (Fri 11/3 – Sat 11/4):
  • Clarkson & St. Lawrence @ Union & RPI
  • Brown & Yale @ Colgate & Cornell
  • Harvard & Dartmouth @ Princeton & Quinnipiac
which should be an exciting set of games. Clarkson's penalty kill still has yet to give up a goal even though they're second most penalized in the country.

Of note, Elle Hartje at Yale set the all-time program record for assists last weekend.

The games are going to be super exciting this weekend.

Results this weekend (11/3–11/4):
  • Clarkson and St. Lawrence each get 2 wins @ Union and RPI. Clarkson and St. Lawrence score a good deal – at least 4 goals – in each game.
  • Brown loses @ Colgate and Cornell, and Yale loses @ Cornell and Colgate. The home teams score a good deal here.
  • Harvard gets a 1-1 tie @ Princeton and a loss @ Quinnipiac, while Dartmouth loses at both Quinnipiac and Princeton
Five teams are in front in the standings: Colgate, St. Lawrence, Quinnipiac, Cornell, and Clarkson. Is Colgate at the top of the heap so far? They are ranked highest.

St. Lawrence and Clarkson are formidable travel partners so far, as are Cornell and Colgate. In the next week, St. Lawrence and Clarkson play a non-conference home-and-home. They play again in ECAC games in January.

Results this weekend (11/3–11/4):
........... In the next week, St. Lawrence and Clarkson play a non-conference home-and-home. They play again in ECAC games in January.

Clarkson will be missing Haley Winn (US National Team) and Nicole Gosling (Team Canada). I'm guessing SLU will be missing Julia Gosling (Team Canada).

Only 8 teams in ECAC play (in italics) this week:
  • SLU @ Clarkson, Wed
  • Post @ Quinnipiac, Wed
  • Cornell & Colgate @ Harvard & Dartmouth, Fri and Sat, ECAC
  • Union & RPI @ Yale & Brown, Fri and Sat, ECAC
  • Mercyhurst @ Princeton, Fri and Sat
  • Clarkson @ SLU, Sat
Along with the student-athletes others mentioned, it looks like Sarah Fillier (Team Canada) will be competing in the November Rivalry Series and miss Princeton's games, as well as Rory Guilday (USA) of Cornell. Wishing them best of luck with their national teams.

Some more on today's SLU-Clarkson game:
Middle-school and elementary students from around the region were at the School Day game, as they were off from school this morning, according to the universities. Attendance was 3,223, setting a record for women's hockey at Cheel Arena. That seems like a good way to excite young fans.

Results through today (Saturday):
  • SLU @ Clarkson, Wed - Clarkson wins game one of the home-and-home
  • Post @ Quinnipiac, Wed - Quinnipiac wins
  • Cornell & Colgate @ Harvard & Dartmouth, Fri and Sat, ECAC
    • Cornell 5-Harvard 1, Colgate 8-Dartmouth 1; Cornell 4-Dartmouth 2, Colgate 10-Harvard 1
  • Union & RPI @ Yale & Brown, Fri and Sat, ECAC
    • Union 2-Yale 3 (OT), RPI 2-Brown 3; RPI 1-Yale 4, Union 0-Brown 2
  • Mercyhurst @ Princeton, Fri and Sat - Princeton sweeps
  • Clarkson @ SLU, Sat - Clarkson completes its non-conference sweep with a shutout
Clarkson, Colgate, Cornell, and St. Lawrence are still undefeated in conference games.

This week (11/14–11/18):
  • BU @ Harvard, Tuesday
  • North Country test: Brown @ Clarkson, Yale @ SLU, Fri; Yale @ Clarkson, Brown @ SLU, Sat
  • Colgate U. & Cornell U. homestand: Princeton @ Colgate, Quinnipiac @ Cornell, Fri; Quinnipiac @ Colgate, Princeton @ Cornell, Sat
This weekend Dartmouth, Harvard, RPI, and Union are off. The teams who are playing are the top 8 in the standings, and 7 of them (not St. Lawrence) won their previous couple games.
