ECAC 2015-2016 Season Thread

Re: ECAC 2015-2016 Season Thread

Coming up next, the final ECAC NC games of 2015, not involving another ECAC team.

We are 18-15-3 against HE but face the "top of the order" in HE and IMO four of their very best teams, Providence, BC, UML and Vermont.

12-28 Cornell vs Providence - Florida
12-28 Clarkson vs UML - Pittsburgh

12-29 Cornell vs BC/Ohio - Florida
12-29 Clarkson vs Penn State/RM - Pittsburgh

12-30 Brown vs Lake Superior - Vermont
12-30 Colgate vs Vermont - Vermont

Given all the permutations, it's possible that we can lose 5 against HE or win 5. Providence, BC and UML are all ranked. So is Penn State.

Am I missing something? It looks like the ECAC plays either 3 or 4 games vs. the HEA, depending upon Cornell's opponent on 12-29.

Re: ECAC 2015-2016 Season Thread

With the non-conference schedule winding down, the league is split evenly by the pairwise with a top six and a bottom six.

Q = 1
Harvard = 6
Cornell = 7
St. Lawrence = 9
Yale = 11
RPI =18

Union = 24
Dartmouth = 30
Clarkson = 33
Princeton = 40
Brown = 43
Colgate = 48

At this point, only Harvard has the type of ranked non-conference opponents that might strengthen it's pairwise (Beanpot), beyond league play. While hope springs eternal, given the strength of the top six this year, IMO it looks like the top six are playing for the four ECAC Lake Placid tournament seeds and as many NCAA slots possible (and as many #1 seeds as possible). IMO the bottom six are out of it this year and building for next year.

The strength of the ECAC does give somebody in the 20s an opportunity if they go on a run. A decade ago an ECAC squad had to be around the top 10 on New Years Day to have any shot at an at large, because playing the last 14 in conference would ruin their SOS. Now it's quite the opposite: those final 14 are going to bolster SOS. The same goes for the later rounds of the ECAC tournament.

tl; dr: I don't think Union's out of it quite yet.
