Easter 2010: Alleluia, Christ has risen!

Re: Easter 2010: Alleluia, Christ has risen!

4. (and please, let's not get into a big to-do about this next one) God went "Abracadaba" and created this big glop of crap we call the universe(s). Then He said, "Let's see what happens. This could be really good. Now, I'm gonna go get me some popcorn and watch." Science took over from there.

I believe it was Orville Reddenbacher....:D

I admit my intolerance, however, Foxton is just flaming for the sake of flaming. Then again, he is a flamer so it is to be expected.

You've never read a Foxton post, have you?

Point out the part of the Gospels where Jesus says intolerance is okay. I might have missed that.

There are lots of things Jesus was intolerant of. Money changers in the temple being the most prominent example. Jesus was a loving God, this is undeniable, however the Bible makes it quite clear how he feels about sin (Hint: Not a big fan).

Now, you can make a decent argument that there is nothing sinful about gay marriage, but I think the argument along the lines of "But Jesus loved everyone!" is off base.

Tempting, oh so tempting.

Reading is for the gay liberals. Real traditional small town values men don't need to read their holy book.

He loves all non-sinners, which relates to your "nothing sinful about gay marriage" part. I highly doubt Jesus loved Ed Gein, Jeffrey Dahmer, Charlie Manson, etc. People who made a conscious choice to sin, and had no regrets about it.

When I think of "intolerance", I don't generally include forgiving everyone. That was kind of what He was getting at. Even if you're arguing with them on the internet.

Maybe we're arguing semantics here, but I would argue that he loved people like Gein, Dahmer, etc. as well, but he despised their sin, and had no choice but to send them to hell. "Didn't want to do it, felt he owed it to 'em"

They sent themselves to hell by being murdering jackanapes who basically spit in the face of a merciful God.

I guess I'm missing your point then.

Yes, they did. You'll get no argument from me there.

Point is, it still pained God to have to send them to hell.

Re: Easter 2010: Alleluia, Christ has risen!

Yes, because serial killers are just like gay people.

I almost agree, but not in these (or similar) cases, as Jon points out:

They sent themselves to hell by being murdering jackanapes who basically spit in the face of a merciful God.

People who kill someone (or more than one someone) in things like revenge killings (say, a guy kills your kid, so you hunt that bastige down and kill him), those people I think would fit your description. It's a big gray area, since the revenge killings are something that the killer is probably not sorry for, but that killer feels that "eye for an eye" is appropriate.

I'm sure it did, what with knowing that they would do everything that they did in advance. Did the victims get some kind of special timeshare/stock option/palace in heaven for getting the short end of the stick?

Re: Easter 2010: Alleluia, Christ has risen!

Things pain God?

Well, again, coming at it from my point of view, if God is the one who created the universe, made everything by hand, all that stuff... And the beings that he created choose to commit terrible crimes and he has to **** them to a life of eternal suffering, then yeah, I believe that might be a little painful for him.
