East Regional - 3/25 and 3/26 - UMD, Yale, Union and Air Force

Re: East Regional - 3/25 and 3/26 - UMD, Yale, Union and Air Force

Not too worried about UMD. Being from the WCHA, they are overrated and arrogant. The regional final could be a bit more interesting however. It seems pretty likely Yale could storm right through to the Frozen Four but anything can happen in a one off tournament.

You cannot argue with the fact that the WCHA is a much more difficult conference than the ECAC.

That being said, UMD is not playing their best hockey right now. I can definitely seeing us beating Union. I wouldn't be surprised if nerves or inexperience gets to them. I believe Yale is the favorite in this regional. And I wouldn't be surprised if they won this region.

I STILL don't care about your sad little team. They're geriatric.

For the record they are not MY team. But I do follow them and will root for them whenever they are not playing my team. I'm sure they are heartbroken you don't care. Especially when they were celebrating after dispatching your team last week who should have easily defeated them in your mind. Correct? :D

Hmm... wonder if something similar will happen again in the near future. It has to be on your mind too. :D

Re: East Regional - 3/25 and 3/26 - UMD, Yale, Union and Air Force

This may have already been posted in another thread, but based on KRACH (assuming I understand it correctly) the chance of each team from this regional making the Frozen Four is:

Yale: 47.71%
Union: 20.19%
UMD: 26.99%
Air Force: 5.11%

For comparison the other number one seeds' chances are:

Miami: 32.44%
ND: 52.43%
Boston College: 43.55%

I do not know how valuable these numbers are in a single elimination tournament, but I was curious myself and just thought that I would share what I found.

I think it's because UMD is not used to hearing the arrogant line thrown at them. They are too used to tossing it towards the Gophers. :D

My bad. By the way, we are so much better that you.

Why didn't Union become a university instead of a college!? Now we are robbed of saying UU. Instead its the much lamer UC

I think it is because your season is over! And no more auto bid gift!

Checking out Union's website, whoa is your arena a dump! That wouldn't pass for a high school rink in MN. Any plans of an upgrade?

Union alum here - coming tomorrow with other alums who are making the trip from long distance. Didnt think we would ever see this day. But now that we are here we expect Union to beat the Bulldogs twice. In fact, the last time anyone beat dogs this bad, this often, his name was Vick!

Go U!

I have not heard from anyone about the tailgate aspect, it is going to be a little cold tommorow as well. I was thinking of heading into Bridgeport around noon and hitting Murphy's Law for lunch(kibitz with some Union faithful) and maybe have a beer at Ralphs and Richs before the early game, my buddy can't get out of work until 2pm. I might sneak out and check out the practice to see who is actually skating this week for Yale. I am in Section 113 row V for the weekend.

We'll be in Section 105, Row H for the weekend. Will probably drop by Murphy's Law at lunchtime.

Not unless you know something we don't. I'd call it more of a pit or hockey slum. :p

Awesomeness. I see you widdle Eastern fans learned how to use the rep function. Next you should learn how to write a complete sentence.

This is the first time I have came accross a Duluth fan on these boards, and you aren't doing yourselves any favors, get your together!

Re: East Regional - 3/25 and 3/26 - UMD, Yale, Union and Air Force

This ECAC and Yale fan will be rooting for Union. Nothing against UMD but we are tired of being slapped around by the WCHA fans. As for the games, I am sure that AFA will fight hard and give Yale some stiff competition, but this NCAA tournament is the culmination of what this senior class and the Yale program have been building over the last 4 years. I would be shocked if Yale lost this first game. The key question about the Union-UMD game is.... will the stage be too big for the first-time NCAA qualifier, Union. It was 2 years ago in this very same building when Yale was a first time NCAA qualifier and they were dispatched by a more experienced Vermont team. If Union is not dazzled by the bright lights of the NCAA stage, I think they will win a close game because they have more depth across all their lines and their goalie is superior. Sounds like they will need to neutralize UMD's first line to be successful.

Looking ahead to an anticipated Yale-Union game, I think they key for Yale is to stay out of the box. Chris Cahill in particular flies all over the ice and has a penchant for turning a check into boarding. BTW, I love Cahill's game. I just think he needs to be a little more careful with the checks. I think if you look at the 2 games that Yale and Union played this year, the first game was a Yale blow-out and the second game was a Union blow-out for the first two periods and then swung decisively toward Yale in the 3rd. So, on balance, I think you have to give the edge to Yale in the head to head.

But, ultimately, I think Yale wins on experience. I think the talent level between the two teams is very close, but there is no substitute for having been there and experienced the "bigness" of the moment and Yale has the decisive edge there.

Predictions: Yale4-AFA1...Union4-UMD-3....Yale 4-Union 2 with a Yale empty netter at the end
