Tim Rosenthal (aka Rosie) and Kevin Edelson share their picks for the Frozen Four for Inside Hockey. We will have to have a talk with Rosie if his signature on his bracket ever hits ebay:

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

We've been doing the "Thank you" thing for years. (Even had an announcer say "You're welcome" once!) In fact, most of our stuff has been around for a while. Can't say we didn't steal it from Cornell, though. :D

The "how much time" ... "thank you" routine goes back to at least 1982 at RIT. And I'm sure many cheers were borrowed from Cornell (basically next door!) and elsewhere. Never seemed like much of an issue when RIT was DIII, and probably still isn't since meetings with CU are rare. And I'm sure CU is not as "original" as some there believe. Anyway, far better to have copied cheers and a great atmosphere (as both schools have) than none at all.

Time to hit the road. Good luck to all this afternoon/evening and I hope all the fans in Albany have a good time.

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

Earlier in the thread, I mentioned the return of UNH defenseman Brett Kostolansky, and ensuing question of what to do with Connor Hardowa, the frosh d-man who was playing in his place. Something to watch for this weekend:

The return of UNH forward Connor Hardowa . . . yup.

I'm waiting for confirmation (hopefully from Coach Umile on WHEB this morning, around 710am), but on the UNH Playoff Thread, the lines are being listed as:

1-3: same as mentioned previously
4: McCarey, Henrion, Hardowa. Moving Hardowa from D to F is an interesting move, but I get it; Hardowa's not the best skater, but he's comfortable with the puck on his stick, and uses his body pretty well. That's something that will come into play against Cornell.

Interesting to see the UNH Coaching Staff make a move; I think it may be possible (as another poster mentioned in the playoff thread) that this gives them options. If Kostolansky has issues with the knee, you slide Hardowa back onto defense, and have another forward pulling double shifts (or a couple sharing the double work). UNH's 4th line saw ONE shift in their last game, so it's concieveable they won't play much, especially if Hardowa has to drop back to the blue line. Aptly mentioned in the other thread (again, not by me, I'm just using it) is that with the added TV time outs, UNH may be able to get away with rolling 3 lines for most of the game, especially on a smaller ice sheet.

Pumped up for this weekend!

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

The extra TV timeouts will help RIT stay in the game against Denver. While the Tigers first line can't compare to Denver's, the more shifts they play the better off RIT will be. The Tigers are used to having TV timeouts with locally televised games so that is not an issue.

I like RIT to try and play the body and see if they can frustrate the Pioneers. I don't know what Denver is used to offficiating wise, but this year RIT has done a better job of being physical without taking penalties. RIT will need to take advantage of scoring chances, especially on PP.

I expect Denver to try and force the game to their tempo and really put the pressure on DeMichiel. DeMike has been stellar pretty much all year, but this is the toughest competition he has faced. If Denver goes ahead by a couple goals, it's going to be very difficult for RIT with Chevy in net.

Predictions:
I think RIT will hang with Denver most of the game. Having almost a home crowd will be an advantage RIT will have.
Final: Denver 3 (ENG), RIT 1

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

Will anyone be posting score updates in this thread?

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

It seems I say it every year, and I know I'm not alone. This applies to every game, henceforth: If UNH wins, that would be awesome. If they lose, I'll be OK with it, so long as they don't beat themselves -- there's nothing wrong with losing to a better team, if you have played your very best.

Leave it all out there, boys! Make yourselves proud, no matter the outcome!

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

Looks like my tickets will be in the UNH section.

No, I will not be decked out in UNH blue. 1985 RPI red though will most certainly happen.

101-102-103, huh?

From what I've been told, you can move around with ease at the TUC, if you don't want to sit with the UNHers (but, really, why wouldn't you? :p )

Look for Denver's biggest hitter, #24 John "The Big Yellow Truck" Ryder, to crush a few Tigers with some big checks. Overall, Denver was one of the least penalized teams in the WCHA this past year. They rarely take a "dumb" penalty. Their offensive strengths are their transition game and cycling down low. Much has been written and said about their #1 line so I don't think I need to add much about Rock, Ruegs and Colborne. The offense wears out other teams by maintaining possession of the puck for 1 to 2 minutes at a time in the offensive zone. A lot of their games were close in the first two periods and by the time they wore their opponent out, they would ice the game in the 3rd period. On defense all you have to say is Chevy. Best player on the best team in the WCHA. My pick for the Hobey. In addition to Ryder, DU has two other stay at home defensemen in Cody Brookwell and Chris Nutini. On the offensive side of the D, DU has Matt Donovan, Patrick Wiercioch, John Lee and Paul Phillips. Those four will all join the rush and are as offesively talented as the forwards. Donovan and Wiercioch have bombs from the point. All 7 d-men could play today.

Almost every DU game is televised so the top lines are used to playing extra shifts with rests during the TV timeouts. On the DU PP look for very quick passes with one-timers from anywhere on the ice. Sometimes the team tends to overpass and give up some bonafide Class A shots. After last weekend I would guess they would keep it a little simpler with putting as much rubber on net as possible. Look for a very aggressive PK with tons of blocked shots to help out Chevy.

GO DU!!!!

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Cornell fans should be very flattered by the RIT fans' cheers.

Over the last two years, RIT has adopted a good deal of the Cornell repertoire. Good and bad (I'm sick of the thanking the One minute left in the period announcer at both schools). Now if they would only get rid of the canned music (Why? They have a band.) and continual announcements . . .

RIT has been thanking the One Minute left in the period for at least a decade (As long as I've been going to games)* so I'm not sure what we've copied from Cornell. Care to try that one again?

*My absolute favorite was when we were seconds away from beating Elmira and a goalie who had given us particular difficulty over the years. "Excuse me Rock... How much time is left IN [insert goalie's name here]'s CAREER?"

"1 minute."

"Thank you!"
