Nah, the ICE raids are on you. However, I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for an acknowledgment of that fact.
Dig out the old immigration threads. My position on immigration was made crystal clear in those threads, but quickly shouted down by this crowd.
My position is, and has always been, this. If you want to move to the U.S., live here, work here, our response should be "welcome." Open border. All we insist is that you follow our rules. If you work, pay your taxes. If you want to drive, you need to get a driver's license. Pretty simple. But you don't get to be a citizen, and enjoy the rights and privileges that go along with being a citizen (such as holding government office or voting) unless you take the steps necessary to become a citizen and commit to this country.
Ah, but no, that was way too outrageous for all of you. Most of the responses were like, "that's ridiculous, what about sovereignty? Where will all these people live? What about all of the terrorists? We have to have specific rules about who, and how many can come into this country."
But I believe that I then left you with a word of caution. If you are going to allow government officials to set rules about who can enter the country, you better be prepared for unhappiness when the administration in power chooses to use those rules in a way not to your liking.
So, no, there is nothing about what ICE is doing that is acceptable or right or humane. But it's the system you wanted, so congrats.
