There was someone on Fark who posted a video about someone commenting on this phenomenon. Society is losing its ability to do its own search for information as "the algorithm" on social media has taken hold. Unfortunately I can't find it anymore, but it's definitely a thing,That's the thing. Everyone wants someone else to do everything for them, they don't want to put in an ounce of effort on their own part to research anything, or learn anything. They want someone else to tell them. That's what Donnie does, even though everything he tells them is bullshit.
I see it in my cycling forums all the time. Someone buys a bike, and then comes asking if they did good. Well, first, the time to ask is before you buy the damn thing, not after. And then there's stuff about parts, or maintenance and stuff. Example, the other day, a guy posted looking for what size thru axle would fit his bike. I did a quick two minute Google search and posted him a link, said, "here you go, but why are you asking here when you could have searched Google yourself and found your answer just like I did in less than two minutes". And he got all pissed at me Sarcasm "thanks for being all helpful and kind. Amazing how hard it is for some people to be nice."
I mean, other people were giving him guesses, maybe this one fits, check this place, and I gave him the exact size he needed. So I wrote back, "Sorry that you couldn't do this for yourself" and he goes " "Hahaha sorry, did I trigger you? Sorry your ego is so fragile. Happy to dish out insults but can't take any criticism. Very mature."
All cause he wanted other people to do something for him rather than spend any time and effort on his own. He spent more time bitching back at me than he would have finding out the correct part he needed if he'd just done a search. And he's not the only one, I see it dozens of times a day. Guys who never had a bike before and then buying something on a whim that doesn't fit them, or doesn't suit their need. Buying parts that won't fit their bike cause they don't know, and won't research ahead of time.
I hate to sound like an old fogie, but it's this younger generation. Had mommy and daddy do everything for them that they're absolutely helpless when it comes to having to do stuff for themselves. And their Google-fu is so hit or miss. They could probably search up the specs and utility of the latest graphics card for their game machine in a heartbeat, way easier than I could, but to find basic general life information and they're just helpless.
Dunning-Kruger in full effect. As I recently saw it summarized, there is a minimum capability required just to know that you're minimally capable. If you don't hit that, you think you're brilliant. It’s not that they’re dumbasses, it’s that they’re dumbasses who think they’re the smartest.
It’s a tough thing to admit for many of you Gen Xers but y’all are the Trump Generation.
“I am closer to LeBron than you are to me” is a lesson that should be required in school.Dunning-Kruger in full effect. As I recently saw it summarized, there is a minimum capability required just to know that you're minimally capable. If you don't hit that, you think you're brilliant.
They also suntan their butthole cause it gives them strength!I mean we have an entire subgroup of men in this country who are convinced that washing their crack or going down on a woman makes them gay, so...![]()
Originally back in grad school ('07) I was going to write my thesis on how that was going to happen/already started. There wasn't enough research then to get it done. Now I see articles about it every few months and see it with my students and friends. Short term retention is dying and ability to even do basic Google searches and find a decent source is going away. There was someone on Fark who posted a video about someone commenting on this phenomenon. Doesn't help that search engines themselves are suffering from enshitification as poor AI commentary and sponsored search results make up the bulk of the leading entries these days.
Oh I totally buy that! Trump was made to look stupid in front of the world and Putin needs Zelenskyy gone. As long as Zelenskyy is in power Ukraine has a figure that inspires. They need a puppet or a Neville Chamberlain so they can "end the war".Politico (yeah, yeah, I'm aware) reports that Trump and Co. have been working backchannels to try and get rid of Zelenskyy.

The 10 Democrats who voted with Republicans just now to censor Al Green: Ami Bera (CA) Ed Case (HI) Jim Costa (CA) Laura Gillen (NY) Jim Himes (CT) Chrissy Houlahan (PA) Marcy Kaptur (OH) Jared Moskowitz (FL) Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA) Tom Suozzi (NY)bsky.app
Jesus I love Moskowitz...what is wrong with these people.
Huh. Amy Gleason's name is missing from that list.... thought she was the acting administrator of the department according to the White House?

At least you have a Democrat to complain to. I have Brett fucking Guthrie, Rand Paul, or someone who is so dedicated to fighting against Trump he’s voted against a Cabinet member or two. Guthrie’s office are bunch of chucklefucks, even though the dude is the chair of the committee that oversees Medicaid, something a fuckload of his constituents are on…but he knows as well as I do they’re too ignorant to realize he’d be at fault for them losing it.Well, just emailed both my senators and my congressman.
Not that it'll do any good. Democrats are weak and spineless
