Wouldn't that be counter to the terms of NAFTA, or whatever the name is of the trade deal that superceded it? I mean, that's a legally negotiated treaty between the three countries, and 'free trade' is part of the name.

That would mean Dumpie would have to withdraw from the agreement, just like he did the one with Iran, which sparked an increase in oil prices when he did that one.

In truth, it's always been that way. The NRA back in the 50s and 60s was one of the biggest lobbying groups FOR gun control. Because, we can't have those blacks suddenly start arming themselves...

I found an article from Mexico from July that these tariffs would violate the USMCA (New NAFTA), but a recent Canadian article says lawyers cannot let the USMCA defend itself, and Canada needs to get ahead of this.

Dump did bake a mandatory renewal phase into the USMCA that it requires renewing every six years or it dissolves, and the whole thing sunsets in 2036 unless dissolved prior or extended.

Canada's concern is if their oil exports (which currently makes up 1/4 of US production) would be tariff 'd, making Canada oil too expensive for US buyers, and killing the Canadian oil industry. Side note, if Dump coddles the OPEC countries and/or removes sanctions on Russian oil, they'll flood the market killing US oil production and make us dependent on foreign oil again.

Yeah Exxon has been beating that drum, saying that our refineries can't handle the oil we will be drilling/fracking or something like that. That should be a kick in the pants to push renewable but this country is too friggin stupid for that.

I get side-eyed when I say that will happen but if he is alive he will definitely sue for the right at a third term and the SC will say "since the Founders never put limits in the Constitution and since there is precedent of a President serving 3 terms the 22nd Amendment is Unconstitutional". Hell they probably already have a draft.

As I remember it we've either had a refinery capacity problem for a long time, or we have just enough and nobody wants to build any more because we are supposed to be switching to different fuel sources. It's kind of stupid to say drill baby drill when we can't refine what we're drilling anyway.

Alaska is quickly spiraling into being a failed state. With production likely slowing, fisheries quickly dying due to climate change and Russian trawlers, and the incoming tariffs likely to kill international trade, it’ll be a miracle if there’s any jobs left in the state in a few years.
