DU and CC - The Gold Pan Rivalry Continues

Re: DU and CC - The Gold Pan Rivalry Continues

I have been in touch with the CC athletic deparment this week, and as of today, it has been confirmed that after the DU lineup is introduced Saturday night at World Arena, there will be a short statement read about Jesse before they proceed with the introduction of the CC players. I was told that CC did not want to do anything too drawn out because of the emotional toll it could take on DU before the game, and that they wanted to make sure DU was okay with whatever they did. The DU staff has seen the statement and it has been approved and well received. So EVERYONE be in or at your seats before the lineups are introduced. All of the CC and DU fans at this game need to come together and applaud Jesse because some things are far bigger than a hockey rivalry.

Absolute Class. I'm pretty sure it will be hard to not shed a tear during that moment.

Thank you CC for the classy gesture.

As predicted CCtig was the first Tiger fan to sign the banner for Jesse, but I must tell you that I really did get scolded by the "banner police" because they told me to keep it very short, and......well I had a lot to write, so after writing too much I got a good chewing out for taking up too much space on the banner. Swami and Goddard were with me and saw it all happen. I mean they really chewed me out!!

No regrets!!

Tig, if I had been there I would have written a lot, too. Jesse deserves it and it shouldn't matter whether it's from a DU fan or a CC fan. We're all together in hoping the best for Jesse Martin. So "eff" the person who chewed you out.

The Jesse Martin banner is on its way to Minneapolis. Thanks to DU alum Miller Baird ('72) and his wife Debbie for all the work and effort they put into getting the banner and having it signed. Also a big thank you to Angel Field in organizing the banner signing on the DU side. She was the one responsible for getting the team to sign it and get the tables, etc. for Miller and his crew to use. You find some photos of the banner here.

For the weekend, one down--one to go.

Win it tonight for Jesse!
and the Gold Pan.

Re: DU and CC - The Gold Pan Rivalry Continues

Nice result last night. Let's get the gold pan tonight.

Re: DU and CC - The Gold Pan Rivalry Continues

Great interview with Gwoz posted below. I like how Rycroft grilled Gwoz a bit about not letting Zucker take the penalty shot. I think Gwoz made the right choice to take the 2 minute penalty instead. But I admit I was bummed about the decision at the time, because I've never seen a DU player take a penalty shot at Magness.

Nice effort last night. DU nearly fell behind with some first period giveaways, but Brittain stood tall and allowed DU to wear down the Tigers.

Zucker's empty netter epitomized his style of play--he gets slammed by a CC player into the boards, but doesn't give up on the play, gets the puck back and nets a goal. Pretty sweet. But it makes me SO nervous when I see him limp back to the bench with an injury. I have already seen it happen 2 or 3 times this year, and again last night after he got hit with a puck (I think.) I am so much more confident about DU's chances this year if Zucker stays healthy.

Also, it was great to see Maiani break the seal with his first goal of the year. Hopefully he can build on that success tonight and get on a roll.

EDIT: I guess Maiani didn't score after all. Perhaps his shot was redirected? I thought that the announcer gave Anthony credit for the goal...

I thought Shawn Ostrow played great last night; probably his best outing yet (here) - and I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere. Am I nuts or did someone else notice as well?

To CC fans: Yay, Ouch, Ouch, Ouch, Ouch, Ouch, Ouch, Ouch, Ouch, Ouch, Yay. "Daddy, make the bad men stop." Congratulations.

With all the emotion and injuries around the Denver team, I think focus will be far more difficult than usual. I can see the Pios winning in Magness for Jesse, but getting spanked in the Springs as the Pios are running on fumes right now after playing so many good teams with a depleted lineup.

Hey Swami - can you send the lottery numbers my way? You probably can get my e-mail address from your crystal ball...

Get well Jesse Martin!

It hurts to be prophetic, but you could see this one coming a mile away...

DU had to hit the wall sometime after what the team has been through lately.

They'll bounce back. Congrats to the Tigers, who were due for a good game.

Tonight was fun, I'm not going to lie. After about the seventh goal for CC, I mentioned to a couple people around me that this was one month of frustration coming out all at once. While I realize DU is depleted and also pretty spent right now, emotionally and physically, CC desperately needed this game, and they played like it. They absolutely dominated this game from the opening faceoff. And I was happy that Stephen Schultz was named first star, because he was absolutely the best player on the ice all game long. The crowd was very good tonight, and in spite of their language, it was nice to see the CC student section actually show up and cheer for once. It's been awhile.

I will try to get a copy of what was said about Jesse Martin during the player intros. I heard most of it but missed some due to the cheering.

You know, I liked it when they used to actually say, "Eff you DU" instead of using the full word. If I ever have enough money, I'm going to gather up about 20 students from the Northeastern "Doghouse" and fly them out here to teach the CC students how to cheer.

But it WAS nice to actually have a student presence tonight. I guess I would rather have profane cheers than the usual silence and vacancy that has come out of that student section in recent years.
