DU and CC - The Gold Pan Rivalry Continues

Re: DU and CC - The Gold Pan Rivalry Continues

Thanks. I apologize for the eff u du chant from our student section. I wish they would grow the hell up.

No need to apologize.

It's college hockey. DU students chant the same stuff. I am hoping that both student bodies can get a little more creative, but at least they are coming to games and cheering, which keeps the rivalry strong.

Re: DU and CC - The Gold Pan Rivalry Continues

Tyler Johnson involved in multi-car accident after game Saturday night.

Here is what happened, after the game Saturday night Tyler Johnson was driving east bound in the far left lane on Lake Ave just below I-25 with a passenger in his car (name withheld). At that time a young male Fort Carson soldier ran a red light as he was turning onto Lake Ave coming from the North going 35-45 mph.

My wife was driving our car with me as a passenger, we were right behind Tyler Johnson when Tyler (no fault of his) slammed into the black car with a loud bang heard a block away and sending that car out of control three lanes to the right and into a light pole at which time the radiator busted and both cars came to a stop. Since we were right behind Tyler I told the wife to stop and put on the caution lights as I jumped out of our car and ran across three lanes of traffic to render aid.

As soon as Tyler got out of his car I knew it was him, both Tyler and his passenger appeared to be ok, and after talking with the young Fort Carson soldier he too appeared ok. Tyler's car suffered minor damage but the black car had to be towed away due to front and rear passenger side damage.

One of my first questions to the young Fort Carson Soldier was are you under any drug or alcohol influence and he said no, after talking with him for a considerable time I could tell he was not, so I do not know what caused him to make such a serious error.

Thirty minutes later after writing statements for the police to what we witnessed we said good night and went our way. Thankfully all three people involved are fine!! But I have to wonder....maybe SKAE (Sharon) is right when she says I seem to be a magnet to all things CC! This is getting scary!! Maybe I should cancel our trip to St. Cloud, Minnesota in December to watch our Tigers play?

Out of respect for the three people involved in the accident additional details will not be posted here on the board.

That's how I look at it, too. I don't necessarily like some of the cheers, but I like the spirit that both student sections have shown this weekend. I haven't seen many CC games in person over the last couple seasons due to living on the east coast, but before I left the student section was becoming increasingly quiet, and I was told by friends and family who used my tickets while I was gone that the student section kept getting worse in terms of attendance and noise. So tonight was refreshing in some ways. And I was happy that the students were cheering and clapping for Jesse Martin when the statement was made after the DU lineup was announced. I hate to say this about the student fan base from "my team", but I was honestly a bit worried. I'm SO glad that I had nothing to worry about, as it turns out.

Swami, you would know this better than anyone, including me, but spending two seasons in Boston, while attending just under 80 college hockey games at approximately 20 different rinks on and around the east coast made me appreciate how important a great student section can be and how much it adds to the game experience. Whether it was Clarkson with their train bell, BU with their overall silliness, the Beanpot with 3 bantering fanbases (There are almost no Harvard fans at the Beanpot), or my personal favorite fans and students, Northeastern, I saw some great games and some amazing, die-hard fans. I miss that this year, and I think I always will. I missed my CC team tremendously for my two seasons away from here, but I sure miss watching hockey in a place where it is in people's blood.
